OVERTIME WIN COSTLY FOR STEELERS

Last night’s 23-20, come-from-behind win by the Pittsburgh Steelers over the Baltimore Ravens has proven to be costly for the home team. The Steelers have lost rookie running back Rashard Mendenhall and veteran guard Kendall Simmons for the season. Mendenhall suffered a broken shoulder blade, and Simmons sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon. “That is football,” coach Mike Tomlin said after the game, “what we will do is put some men out there and the standard of expectation will not change. We have to go to Jacksonville and we have a short week; such is life in the National Football League.” Mewelde Moore did a decent job for the Steelers after Mendenhall and Carey Davis left the game with injuries. Though Moore had only eight carries for 13 yards, he caught three passes for 37, including a reception and run that helped put the Steelers in position to kick the game-winning field goal. Mendenhall finished with nine carries for 30 yards and one catch for six.
