It’s still early, but the New York Jets are currently administering an open-palmed butt-whupping to the Patriots.
After a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Leon Washington of the Jets, New York leads 17-6.
It’s Washington’s second touchdown of the game; he scored on a short pass from Brett Favre on the team’s first drive of the game.
During the pregame coverage on NFL Network, Adam Schefter suggested that Washington will be clamoring for a new contract after the season.  Currently signed through 2009, Washington is earning a base salary of $445,000 this year, and he will make $530,000 next season.
And if there’s no salary cap in 2010, Washington will not be eligible for unrestricted free agency.
