JETS STICKING IT TO PATS

It’s still early, but the New York Jets are currently administering an open-palmed butt-whupping to the Patriots. After a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Leon Washington of the Jets, New York leads 17-6. It’s Washington’s second touchdown of the game; he scored on a short pass from Brett Favre on the team’s first drive of the game. During the pregame coverage on NFL Network, Adam Schefter suggested that Washington will be clamoring for a new contract after the season. Currently signed through 2009, Washington is earning a base salary of $445,000 this year, and he will make $530,000 next season. And if there’s no salary cap in 2010, Washington will not be eligible for unrestricted free agency. You can follow tonight’s action via NFL.com by clicking the appropriate ads to the left.
