SPENCER LARSEN STARTS BOTH WAYS FOR BRONCOS

Spencer Larsen has made history. Larsen, a Denver Broncos rookie, started at both fullback and linebacker today at Atlanta. Lindsay H. Jones of the Denver Post reports that that makes Larsen the first player in Broncos history to start on both offense and defense. Larsen started at middle linebacker for the injured Nate Webster and also made his first start at fullback. The Broncos drafted Larsen thinking he would play linebacker and had him there in training camp, but just before the regular season started, they moved him to fullback. Today he’s a starter at both positions. Per Jones, the last NFL player to start a game on both offense and defense was Baltimore’s Orlando Brown, who started on both the offensive and defensive lines in a game against the Raiders in 2003. Other recent players who have been two-way starters include Champ Bailey, who once started at both wide receiver and cornerback for the Redskins, and Deion Sanders, who started at both wide receiver and cornerback for the Cowboys.
