AINGE SUSPENDED FOUR GAMES

The New York Jets have announced that rookie quarterback Erik Ainge has been suspended four games for violating the leagues policy regarding anabolic steroids and related substances. The specific reason for Ainge’s suspension isn’t known. The fact that the suspension has been announced means that any appeal of the suspension has been resolved against Ainge, a fifth-round draft pick in 2008 who played college football at Tennessee. And, frankly, this is the way it’s supposed to happen. There should be no report regarding the potential suspension until the suspension has been finalized. That way, if the suspension ultimately is overturned, no one will know that there was ever even an issue. Ainge will be eligible to rejoin the team on Monday, December 15. Then again, since he already is on injured reserve, it really doesn’t matter if he’s suspended or not.
