BURRESS SHOOTS HIMSELF IN THE LEG, ACCIDENTALLY

Multiple sources tell us that Giants receiver Plaxico Burress has shot himself in the leg.
Apparently, Burress was carrying a loaded gun.  And the gun went off.
The incident happened on Friday night/Saturday morning.  His condition currently isn’t known.
Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com also is reporting this one, and he’ll soon have a story up with additional details.
Though at this point the player’s health and well being is the primary concern, what the hell was he doing with a loaded gun?
It also remains to be seen whether he faces charges for carrying the loaded gun, and whether he ultimately encounters scrutiny from the league for violating the Personal Conduct Policy.
UPDATE:  Glazer reports that Burress spent the night in the hospital, and that his injuries are not life threatening.  Per Glazer, the team is still gathering information regarding the incident.

I would have preferred this happened back in February, around the first or second.
    Get well soon, Plax.

Wow, I am more surprised that this doesn’t even surprise me. Not even slightly. This guy has proven time and again that he is nothing but a tall child who can run and catch.

  5. Mangy66 says: Nov 29, 2008 11:11 AM

My sources report that Fred Smoot didn’t like being owned by Plaxico in the past, so he took matters into his own hands.
Look for him to do a few extra dances on the field before plays to pump up the crowd…which usually correlates to him getting burned on those particular plays.

  6. brianforster says: Nov 29, 2008 11:13 AM

It pains me to know that there are multi-millionaires out there who do dumb things like carry loaded guns with the safety off, while I sit at home unemployed reading PFT 😦

  11. MNGuy says: Nov 29, 2008 11:20 AM

Who cares if he is walking around with a loaded gun? Millions of people do it everyday for self defense. The only way he’s an idiot for walking around with a gun is if it’s illegal in his state. If it is illegal, I take back what I said…but last time I checked we still have a right to bear arms.

  13. empty13 says: Nov 29, 2008 11:27 AM

    acci-dental-ly of course.

More interestingly is that it happened at a club. How many shooting incidents do you hear about at a player’s home (no disrespect to the Sean Taylor incident where he clearly was a victim)? With all the money these dudes make you would think they could afford to entertain themselves at home or build a private club at home…

  46. DanSnydersPetCeratto says: Nov 29, 2008 12:34 PM

I highly doubt that Plaxico would be able to get a concealed carry permit due to some past legal issues, including marijuana issues. He’s been in a lot of trouble in the Hampton Roads area where he is from.
Responsible citizens have a right to carry a concealed weapon if they have the required permit, but Plaxico has never been a responsible citizen.

  47. Ntrikit says: Nov 29, 2008 12:35 PM

Whoever the idiot is that compared Sean Taylor to “Chedder Burress ” Is a idiot. Taylor was murdered protecting his family not at a club with a loaded gun!!I lived in Va beach for a little while and have met Plaxico a couple of times;not only is he a dumbass but a prick as well!!

  50. Jim_R says: Nov 29, 2008 12:36 PM

Mike, in case you didn’t study civics when you were growing up in West-by-God Virginia, people are allowed to own and even carry loaded guns in America. Not in all parts of the country, and not in all places, but yes, in America, we can own and even carry loaded guns. Burress is just a careless dumbshit for shooting himself, if indeed he shot himself. More likely the real story is not the one that’s been reported so far. Burress is an idiot. The gun only amplifies his innate stupidity.

Uhh….Has anyone at PFT heard of the second amendment? What was he doing with a loaded gun?!? Uh maybe he needed it for personal protection….Plexiglass is an idiot but damn If the author of the rumor mill piece believes in the constitution then why does he ask a stupid question…..Its a god given right called the SECOND AMENDMENT!!
Not sure if anyone has heard of a gentleman called George Washington. If not please google the name. Here is his take on why Plexiglass might carry a loaded gun….
    GEORGE WASHINGTON (First President)
“Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the people’s liberty teeth keystone… the rifle and the pistol are equally indispensable… more than 99% of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference. When firearms go, all goes, we need them every hour.” (Address to 1st session of Congress)

  59. BuckFutter says: Nov 29, 2008 12:51 PM

    HAH!
It’s actually pretty reasonable to consider how this happened….his gun was in his pocket, and the gun went off as soon as he opened his mouth and his foot lunged for it.

  60. bigsexydrock says: Nov 29, 2008 12:53 PM

Unless you didnt hear the 2nd amendment invoves a state wide militia?? Now unless Plax is in one he is still an idiot!!lol

  61. bigsexydrock says: Nov 29, 2008 12:56 PM

The Second Amendment, as passed by the House and Senate, reads:
“ A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. ”
The original and copies distributed to the states, and then ratified by them, had different capitalization and punctuation:
“ A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

  66. teddybayer says: Nov 29, 2008 1:22 PM

Well, we all know from “Office Space” that it’s “good to be a gangsta”.
But apart from accidental, albeit self-inflicted pain, can you imagine the look —
THAT LOOK of anguish from Tom Coughlin? Hell, we get that look when
the G-Men miss a 3rd down conversion. Imagine this one! Got hisself a big,
bad wideout that can’t get along, can’t make meetings, can’t stay out of his own way and now
    he shoots himself.
Of course, they’re 10-1 and he hasn’t been a factor all season. And if he hit an
    artery…that’s big.

  67. bigsexydrock says: Nov 29, 2008 1:25 PM

I did read that decision and I was being sarcastic. My point being is there has to be provisions that keepp dumbasses from carrying guns. If you know how to use one and you are a law abiding citizen then own as many as you want ;but if you are going to actually bring one out to the club and shoot yourself with it then maybe the 2nd amendment shouldnt protect you!

  68. vikefan4787 says: Nov 29, 2008 1:28 PM

LOL big sexy please tell me you are not serious. A militia obviously is entitled to the right the bare arms if it is well regulated. Why place a comma and then establish it is the right of the people in the militia to carry arms? The comma is a seperate entry that is why. It does not say the right of the militia to carry arms. The right belongs to the people. But nice try. How to manipulate facts 101.

Taco Bill just took a note.
And boys and girls – no offense but anyone who thinks the 2nd Amendment is a black and white issue doesn’t know anything about the 2nd Amendment. The NRA purposefully inscribes just HALF of the 2nd Amendment on their HQ – leaving out the “well regulated malitia” – and as far as the comments of Washington or any of the other founding fathers (who purposefully stressed the “well regulated militia” compared to earlier renditions of the 2nd Amendment) – well, I guess one never knows when the British might attack again – 200+ years of lulling us into complacency would be just like those dirty Brits. Just look at Ireland after all!
The fact is you’re much more likely to be wounded or killed by a familiy member or yourself than you are going to need to “protect yourself” like Burress.
But what you or I think about this hardly matters – after letting the issue languish since the mid 1800s, the Supreme Court, as I’m sure all of you know, recently ruled right down the middle of the road, affirming the right of individuals to own weapons but also affirming the constitutionality of regulation and gun laws.
Argue with the Supreme Court if you’d like, but as they say about the Supremes, even when they’re wrong, they’re right.
That ends todays lesson in Civics. I hope a few people learned something.

The second amendment is in the constitution because America had no full time (Non war time) Military nor Military budget until post WWII. Thats 1945 for you youngsters. Had our forefathers invisioned the 1960’s 70’s 80’s 90’s and 00’s they would have revised it. And no it’s not your right to carry fire arms, you need a permit. I understand wanting to own a fire arm, but the GUN NUTS (The ones that spew the second amindment every time there is a Columbine) are just blind and dumb. There has to be a happy middle ground where folks can go out and kill wild game, yet the streets, schools, and public events can be kept safe. And no the ansure is not MORE GUNS!

  90. HarrisonHits says: Nov 29, 2008 3:21 PM

  91. patsfan1776 says: Nov 29, 2008 3:24 PM

Fortunately for the USA, the real militia, whose rights are guaranteed by the 2nd amendment were able to shoot their enemies and not themselves.
I was shocked that there weren’t any posts yelling at Florio for posting this story. No, leave these guys alone, everyone gets drunk and shoots themselves.
My guess is it went off as he was filing off the serial number of his perfectly legal, registered, firearm.

  92. The Jimmy says: Nov 29, 2008 3:39 PM

Bradybunch, a small correction. You don’t need a permit to carry a firearm. You need a permit to conceal one.
And a felon isn’t allowed to do either.

  93. Michael LaRocca says: Nov 29, 2008 5:30 PM

Marvin Harrison could not be reached for comment.
(Some gossip-monger you are, Florio. I have to send you all the cruelest punch lines from Thailand.)

  94. empty13 says: Nov 29, 2008 6:18 PM

the 2nd amendment was added to the constitution via the bill of rights, not by the sitting house and/or senate.
the reason is in order to keep the gummint from getting too big for its britches. it has been sorely underused.
the comma started to get added to printed copies like 80 years ago. by commies who would like to have a “gummint-regulated” militia only, kind of like resident zero’s “national service”.
wrong. the militia serves to keep the gummint in line, not the other way around. repeat. the militia serves to keep the gummint in line, not the other way around.
if gun rights hadnt been subject to erosion all these years, the 60s 70s etc wouldnt have happened the way they did.
if no one is allowed to pack heat in schools etc, like a lot of places are nowadays, then the crooks and real nuts have a field day. there are several cases where sane people with guns have killed or disarmed those who were in the middle of a killing spree. the media does not trumpet those cases. the media also does not trumpet what all parents-of-the-slaughtered (like columbine) say, which is: dont use this for a gun grab.
but idiots and communists want to disarm everyone who is otherwise law-abiding. idiots are just useful idiots. commies want power, and the last time i looked, another commie who wont publish his political position papers is taking office shortly.
also, i bet bloomberg wont have nyc pursue plax legally. plax is a celebrity foobah star and he isnt the kind of person that modern liberals like bloomberg would like to pursue with their gun laws.
