In response to a report regarding rumors that the termination of Lions CEO Matt Millen was staged to placate fans and that Millen was still calling the shots in exile, we’ve been told by multiple sources that Millen has no involvement whatsoever in the franchise.
As mentioned last month in a USA Today feature regarding NFL Films, Millen has been hanging out the Mount Laurel, New Jersey mecca of pro football.
And if Millen is involved in any activities remotely related to the running of the Detroit Lions, he’s doing a very good job of keeping such information concealed from the various recognizable names of NFL media figures who routinely are working there.
Apart from the fact that Millen has been doing and/or saying nothing at NFL Films to indicate any lingering interest and/or involvement in the Lions franchise, we’ve been told that the rumors of lingering influence and/or consulting are simply wrong.

If you go by how many wins lately,….He does seem to have a lingering influence…GoLions!

So, Matt Millen almost has more Super Bowl rings as a player than he had wins in a season during his 8 years as a GM?

  4. Eric says: Dec 10, 2008 8:13 AM

That was a crackpot theory from the start…crackpot, as in the person who came up with that story was on both crack and pot.

It would make complete sense to me if he is still calling the shots considering they have yet to win a game.

Matt Millen was a good player, but an idiot of a GM. At some point in drafting you need to draft for need, not for best player available. That’s what killed him. What 3 WR’s in a row? Retarded!

  7. DePack says: Dec 10, 2008 8:58 AM

According to Ted Thompson, Matt Millen is still calling the shots with Brett Favre as his assistant over the phone!!

Gone or not…this is still the team that Millen put together. I don’t care how many SB rings he’s got…he’s still a loser at 0-13 and counting.

Close, but the lions went 6-10 last year after that stellar 6-2 start

That’s 7-9 for the Lions last year. Hey, when they’ve had as few wins as they have the past, oh, 50 years we gotta count each one. We count wins like other teams count winning seasons.

you are right I’m just so used to all of the losing that i forget to give them credit once and awhile. Maybe if they “keep their pad level low” then Rod can pick us up a W.
