FINS-JETS COULD SLIDE TO LATE AFTERNOON

Although the incredibly significant Week Seventeen game between the Dolphins and the Jets (which could feature the Patriots needing their nemeses from New York to win in order for New England to get to the postseason) won’t be moved to prime time, there’s still a good chance it will be moved to 4:15 p.m. EST.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told us tonight via e-mail that some games will be moved to the late afternoon start, and that the decisions will be made and announced on Monday.
According to the 2008 NFL Record & Fact Book, Week Seventeen is a “national weekend” for both CBS and FOX, which means that the two networks carrying Sunday afternoon games will broadcast doubleheaders in most markets.
Currently, Seattle at Arizona (yuck) and Washington at San Fran (double yuck) are scheduled to begin on FOX at 4:15 p.m. EST; Denver and San Diego had been slated to start at the same time on CBS, before moving to 8:15 p.m. EST.
So it appears that Fins-Jets is a sure thing to make the move on CBS.  There’s also a chance that Cowboys-Eagles could make the move to a late start on FOX as well.
UPDATE:  A reader points out that, as things currently stand, the Giants and Jets will be playing at the same time (1:00 p.m. EST); this means that one of the games is certain to be moved to 4:15 p.m. EST.

    Seneca Wallace > Brett Favre

Prediction – Pats win – Mangini throws the game so Belicheck can watch the playoffs at home on his couch.

Damnit — they should not move that game — the Jets have no integriry and will hand the division to Miami.
The 2 division game should be played at the same time.

i really hope they don’t move the game to 4:15. the weather has been freezing latley. for once, throw the fans who go to the games a bone and keep the game at 1.

  5. ChrisJNelson says: Dec 21, 2008 11:03 PM

Uh, why would the Giants and Jets both playing at one means one of them has to move to 4? The Jets play in New Jersey and the Giants play in Minnesota….

  6. LTOPPIN says: Dec 21, 2008 11:09 PM

An the point of getting Brett Favre was…?????? Seriously folks I’m about to hand in the Jets Fan card. Yet again, typically Jets. There’s always next year right?
    Brett stay home!

  7. mthomas says: Dec 21, 2008 11:21 PM

why cant we get a doubleheader from the two networks evey week?

  8. blackglass3 says: Dec 21, 2008 11:23 PM

For a commisioner who preaches “integrity” and “protecting the shield” Goodell is about to AGAIN turn a blind eye to a team losing on purpose (see Colts Titans week 17 last year).
If Goodell cares about the league, integrity, and teams honestly trying to win; he will send the Baltimore/Jacksonville game to 4pm and let the Jets and Fins play a competitive honest game.

  9. neilpountney says: Dec 21, 2008 11:41 PM

If the Ravens and Patriots win their 1 pm games then the Jets have nothing but pride to play for, a very unfair advantage for the Dolphins, so the Patriots suffer for the want of ad revenue!!!

  10. BuckFutter says: Dec 21, 2008 11:43 PM

The Pats/Bills and Jets/Dolphins game HAS to start at the same time. Move both, or don’t move either….or, if anything, move the Pats game.
What makes the most sense is moving Baltimore to 4:15, because if the Pats and Jets win, then the Baltimore game becomes significant because a loss sends NY to the playoffs.

  11. neutral_like_sweden says: Dec 21, 2008 11:44 PM

If Pats/Bills gets moved as well then it’s ok, otherwise it’s really unfair.

  12. afiresnake says: Dec 21, 2008 11:55 PM

The only thing to ensure full competition would be to move Pats Bills to 4 PM, wouldn’t it? Then the Jets would need to play to the whistle as they could still win the division.
Hello, NFL? Isn’t that what you are here for?

Interesting point… Jets throwing the game would knock the Pats out and leave them with a (very) beatable Miami team as one of their AFC Championship rivals…
But would they want to risk a face off with the Ravens?

    HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!

  15. mjlahaie says: Dec 22, 2008 3:21 AM

Moving up the Jets vs Dolphins game is not a wise move for the NFL. As markmalbo mentions, the Jets seeing they are out with a Pats win would throw the game…making sure the Pats are out, and perhaps a draft pick.
Why not move the Ravens game to 4 pm? With a Pats win, this would make it a must win game for them.

  16. RevSkip says: Dec 22, 2008 5:11 AM

I would love it if the Jets threw the game. Cheating the cheaters. Irony abounds.

  17. RobJH says: Dec 22, 2008 5:25 AM

Man, you NE fans are funny. You’re worried about the Jets losing… If they do lose, I highly doubt it would be due to wanting to “stick it” to the Patriots. They could be playing for Mangini and Tannenbaum’s jobs so I doubt they’ll tank it.
That said, watch out for the Dolphins, they’re a pluck bunch that has learned how to win and lately ALWAYS seem to come up with a big play when the game is on the line.

  18. blinkbdj says: Dec 22, 2008 5:34 AM

The Patriot fans complaining about what’s fair? Haha!

  19. bigblue59 says: Dec 22, 2008 7:45 AM

Let the giants play at 4 it is a meaningless game for them
The Jets should play at 1 as a giants fan I know what its like to have a game moved to late in the day in Dec

  20. PFTiswhatitis says: Dec 22, 2008 8:51 AM

“A pluck bunch”….I know thats you Felger, who else would use such gay terms.

I second that, 9-7 and preventing the PATS from getting in the playoffs is better than 10-6 and the PATS winning the division. Look fora fullback dive up the midle on a 4th and 15 play in this game.
I love the PATS but unfortunately I think they are gonna be sitting at home this year.
Unless Jacksonville pulls of a monumental upset and beats the Ravens

  22. Peanut says: Dec 22, 2008 8:58 AM

Why would one game be moved. The Giants are playing in Minnesota.

  23. Bertil says: Dec 22, 2008 9:08 AM

The problem with flexing that game to 4:00 is that, if the Pats win, only 1 team (the Dolphins) is playing for anything. If the game takes place at 1:00, all of those teams are competing for the same thing. The finishes would be phenomenal.

  24. Devils Advocate says: Dec 22, 2008 9:14 AM

Did anyone consider what it would be like for the Jets if Pennington comes into NY and leads the Dolphins to a division title while Mangini & Tannenbaum thought it would be better to cut Chad and pay Brett Favre 12 million???
I guess we will see what the Jests are made of, this Pats fan will be cheering for the JETS this Sunday. That happens as often as a solar eclipse.

  26. Pastabelly says: Dec 22, 2008 9:59 AM

Favre made the Pro Bowl over Matt Cassel. Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!
Agree that league should keep game times of Jets-Miami and Patriots-Bills simultaneous to insure integrity of playoffs. If Patriots would win early game, Jets would be resting regulars and using second stringers for a mismatch.

  27. shuxion says: Dec 22, 2008 10:00 AM

Don’t hurt yourself laughing there DA.

  28. shuxion says: Dec 22, 2008 10:01 AM

I’m not complaining, as a Pats fan I say if the Jets tank it, I will be pissed but if the PATS didn’t get torched for 38 by the phins in week 3 or 4, this wouldn’t be an issue.
Look at Cleveland last year, they didn’t get in cause Dungy decided to tank it and rest everyone against Tennessee (Worked out well for them BTW)
Win your games and you control your own destiny, simple as that.

  29. overkil2 says: Dec 22, 2008 10:04 AM

I don’t think Mangina would throw the game. If he loses this game, he may be looking for a job next season. Then again, maybe the players are tired of him and will tank it.
As a Fins fan, I’d rather see it as an early game that way IF we win, there aren’t the excuses that Jets fans are for famous for.
I really want to see Pennington shred the Jets team and get Mangina fired. Favre will retire after this season. That would be sweet revenge.

  30. Ravens says: Dec 22, 2008 11:11 AM

Ravens and Jets games both move to 4 — Jets still have sometthing to play for then. They would get the Wild Card with a win and a Ravens loss.
