More and more readers and sources are telling us of a rumor that Browns defensive tackle Shaun Smith recently got into an altercation with quarterback Brady Quinn.
We first mentioned the matter on Sunday, noting that the rumors centered on Quinn as the victim in the altercation.
One reader said that a report on WKYC-TV confirmed the existence of this rumor.  Though there’s no evidence at the WKYC web site of the report, this link also mentions the WKYC report.
But a source told us on Sunday that Quinn privately denied being on the receiving end of any physical violence.  But, in our view, nothing positive for Quinn would flow from admitting what had happened.
Stay tuned — there undoubtedly will be more developments on this story, which could end up being the final epitaph on the Browns’ hugely disappointing 2008 season.

If the “altercation” did happen, any team that has someone throwing punches towards the starting QB is messed up.

@joetoronto: I wouldn’t read much into anything negative that happens in the second half of the season for Cleveland. Ken Dorsey might be the worst starting quarterback in the history of the NFL. They have no chance at all with him under center. Cleveland might be bad, but not THAT bad if they had a remotely competent QB.

We should all be thankful we have finally located Shaun Smith. Somebody should go into the weight room and tell him that he needs to come out on gameday and play football.
This does explain where Wimbley,Williams,Edwards and the rest of the yahoos have been for the last 16 weeks.

    Here’s what really happened:
Shaun Smith was in the weight room and tossed a weight in the direction of Braylon Edwards, Quinn was standing behind him, the weight slipped through Edwards hands, did you expect anything else, and hit Quinn in the head. Quinn will learn it’s dangerous to “stand behind” some of those receivers in Cleveland.
