FAULK, DIERDORF INVOLVED IN COACHING SEARCH

It was reported not that long ago that former Rams running back Marshall Faulk wants to be the next head coach of the team. For now, Faulk will have to settle with the next best thing -- assisting (sort of) in the selection of the next head coach of the team. Along with former St. Louis Cardinals star Dan Dierdorf, Faulk will advise G.M. Billy Devaney in the coaching search. “I’ve reached out to two guys whose opinions I value tremendously, Marshall Faulk and Dan Dierdorf, and they’ve both agreed to act as advisers for me,” Devaney said Tuesday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I can call them at any time to bounce ideas off, names, get their opinions on things. They’re two guys who have the interests of the Rams at heart.” Devaney explained that he’ll use Faulk to gather information regarding possible candidates. “I said, ‘Marshall, while you’re out this weekend, this is a guy we’re thinking about interviewing,” Devaney said. “This is what we hear about him. If you know anybody, see if you get the same thing.’ That’s how we’ll use [Faulk].” So, basically, Devaney doesn’t really care what Faulk thinks. Devaney just wants to give Faulk something to do. (He could have just asked Marshall to stand by the fish bowl and make sure no one taps on the glass.) Still, if the report is accurate that Faulk wants the job, we don’t rule out an effort by him to use his influence to get himself an interview.
