JARED ALLEN "BEGS" VIKINGS FANS TO BUY TICKETS

The man who was begging Minnesotans to not eat turkeys prior to Thanksgiving is now begging them to devote their Christmas money to the purchase of playoff tickets.
In a video posted on the team’s official web site, Vikings defensive end Jared Allen makes the case for fans to fill the Metrodome.
He says that the postseason is “like driving a race car in the red all the time,” which is interesting since he’s never actually played in a playoff game.  (But he’s surely driven a car in the red.  Or at least with red eyes.)
[UPDATE:  Allen, as several of you pointed out, did in fact participate in one playoff game, after the 2006 season.]
“I’m asking you, I’m begging the people of Minnesota,” Allen says.  “Buy up these tickets.  Spend a little cashish.  We just had Christmas, [you] probably got a little Christmas bonus.  Go buy some tickets.”
You can watch the full video right here.
The Vikings face a Friday deadline of 4:30 p.m. EST to sell sufficient tickets to lift a local television blackout.  It’s possible that the Vikings will receive another 24-hour extension.

A lot of people didn’t get Christmas bonuses this year because of the economy. Times are getting tough. Who can blame people for thinking more about not having their power shut off than a football game.

  2. eagles187 says: Jan 2, 2009 12:39 PM

Vikings fans are a joke. How do you not sell-out a playoff game?

  3. omegalh says: Jan 2, 2009 12:42 PM

Do Christmas bonuses even exist anymore?

  4. Favre2012 says: Jan 2, 2009 12:44 PM

If he cares so much, why doesn’t he buy the tickets and give them away. Might get him back some of the karma he lost with the multiple DUIs.
    Jared Allen, world-class douchebag.

  5. vike3440 says: Jan 2, 2009 12:45 PM

Allen played in the 2006 Wild Card game between the Chiefs and Colts. Finished with 6 solo and 2 assisted tackles. Nice job Florio

  7. Mbehavin2 says: Jan 2, 2009 12:46 PM

Hey Jared, how about you and some of your overpaid teammates buying the unsold tickets and donating them to the people that are out of work in the Twin Cities? You get a tax write-off with a good accountant and gain some more good will from your new home.

  8. obama23to1 says: Jan 2, 2009 12:46 PM

spend a little “cashish”?? are you serious? we are struggling trying to put food on the family dinner table while you get paid millions to run around on a field, how about YOU buy up the remaining tickets?

  9. skol_vikes says: Jan 2, 2009 12:47 PM

ummm…unless Jared Allen was hurt, he played against Indianapolis in a playoff game a few years ago…so yes, he does know what it feels like to play in a playoff game!

  10. Milhouse says: Jan 2, 2009 12:48 PM

    Dear Jared,
If you like having the crowd there to pump you up, how about you spend a little of that $15 million “cashish” Zygi gave you to buy me and my friends some tickets. We’re flat broke.

  11. HardcoreVikesFan says: Jan 2, 2009 12:48 PM

    WRONG Florio!
Jared Allen played in a playoff game with the Chiefs in 2006. They played the Colts.
Maybe it’s time for an UPDATE!

  12. SaintsBucsPanthersSUKK says: Jan 2, 2009 12:48 PM

Did he say “spend for a little hashish”?

  13. jimicos says: Jan 2, 2009 12:49 PM

I’ve got two things to say:
    – If he’d offer to change that mullet I’d consider buying a ticket.
    – What’s it say on the shirt under his jersey? Does it say “got strange?” or “got shiancoe?” I can’t tell. Looks like “strange”.

  14. bigrocko1 says: Jan 2, 2009 12:49 PM

Maybe Allen should take some cashish from his fat paycheck and donate the tickets to charity!!!

  15. hrmlss says: Jan 2, 2009 12:50 PM

For a little over a million dollars, he could show all the fans that can’t AFFORD a ticket how much he loves them, and buy all the left over tickets, donate them to poor kids, and get a big tax write off to balance off the HUGE contract he signed to come to Minnesota. Or he can spend it on a Ferrari and some beer, then go out tonight and really show them how he feels about them.

  16. Bob_Nelson says: Jan 2, 2009 12:50 PM

The guy is an out-of-control drunken loud-mouthed goof that wears a cowboy hat. He knows nothing about the playoffs or race cars but shoots his mouth off insulting the company’s customers.
“You probably got a Christmas bonus”…that went out with the 50’s. How out of touch can this drunkard get??
It would be a more effective video on the Eagles web site.

  21. croikies says: Jan 2, 2009 12:52 PM

  22. HarrisonHits says: Jan 2, 2009 12:54 PM

Sorry Jared, I think the Vikes fans spent their cashish on some hashish and that Christmas bonus is long gone…..

  23. clevefan1 says: Jan 2, 2009 12:55 PM

I got a better idea. Allen just signed a $72M contract; why don’t he buy some of the damn tickets.

  25. KramersPalLomez says: Jan 2, 2009 12:57 PM

Allen has been in the playoffs. He was in the Chiefs/Colts game in 2006. But it’s easy to forget he wasn’t there, since like every other big game of his career, he was completely invisible that day.

  29. karrpe says: Jan 2, 2009 1:02 PM

I know this to be true because I saw it on the news… Nobody got any sort of Christmas bonus because the economy has died. The news anchors are telling people to bury gold and canned goods in their back yards, not to buy playoff tickets.

  30. skol_vikes says: Jan 2, 2009 1:02 PM

Jared Allen played a post-season game when he was with Kansas City. They played against the Colts!

Christmas bonuses? Jared, sorry fella, most people don’t get those anymore. Well maybe a free ham, but cash???

  33. ACforever says: Jan 2, 2009 1:03 PM

  34. jbwbubba says: Jan 2, 2009 1:04 PM

Wow, does Allen show he’s out of touch!!

  35. BillsFan says: Jan 2, 2009 1:05 PM

  36. JimmySmith says: Jan 2, 2009 1:05 PM

He’s wasting his time, he should be begging Childress to come up with an offensive game plan. Begging Peterson to hold on to the ball.
He signed for $70 plus million, why doesn’t he reach in his own pocket and buy the tickets. Its not like he is buying drinks anymore so he should have plenty of cash.

  37. empty13 says: Jan 2, 2009 1:09 PM

  52. Osterhouse says: Jan 2, 2009 1:35 PM

Maybe Allen, Berrian, Adrian, and two of the other top 5 paid players on the team can fork up some cash between them. Adrian makes sick amounts off of Nike and other endorsements and instead of losing it at canterbury playing 30/60 hold em all day maybe he can buy up some tickets…

  53. Daws84 says: Jan 2, 2009 1:38 PM

No Viking fan living in Min should be pissed next year if the Vikes dont make it to the playoffs….apparently they are only worth 8 games at home…

  54. DCViking says: Jan 2, 2009 1:39 PM

What cracks me up is how when Jared Allen suggests that Vikings fans buy play-off tickets, he is identified as a loud-mouthed, cowboy hat wearing, dumb (and I mean Wisconsin-level stooopid) jock.
But when the posters of PFT suggest Vikings fans should do a better job supporting their team, they consider themselves the most enlightened thinking people on the planet.
BTW – If southern California is such a great football market, why’d they lose two teams already, don’t really support the Chargers (given, at least the Chargers sold out their playoff game), and haven’t gotten another team back there???

  55. EricTheClown says: Jan 2, 2009 1:43 PM

  56. TheQMaster says: Jan 2, 2009 1:43 PM

Screw all of you hippy douche bags telling Jared to donate money to buy tickets. If people can’t afford tickets they don’t deserve them. Jared Allen is absolutely correct. The Viking’s fans are a joke! If they can’t sell out a playoff team the don’t deserve one.

  59. Vikesfan4life says: Jan 2, 2009 1:46 PM

You people crack me up! Allen is not and should not buy the extra tickets. For you to EXPECT him to purchase them is ridiculous!! Get over it… if Viking fans want to watch the game then buy them yourselves otherwise it is time to deal with it. I, for one, will be in the stands because I actually purchased my playoff tickets.

  60. purpleguy says: Jan 2, 2009 1:46 PM

Its hard to associate myself with this home town, when season ticket holders DONT buy tickets for the playoff game!!! What!!!! Everything from the sports writers, to the radio personalities to the fans just stink. They call them selves “realists” but are really just passive agressive pessimists. You cant sell out a playoff game, your town is pathetic. Ziggy spends major dough to get this team back from the Red Mcombs era and MN fans, baulk!!!!? Give me a break. MN fans get what they deserve and ultimatley hope for: faliure. That way they have something to bitch about!

  67. TheVet700 says: Jan 2, 2009 2:11 PM

Most of the Tickets will sell. The problem for the Vikings is that it will be Eagles fans buying up the seats. So the Metro Dome will become Broad Street Dome! So once again Eagles fans will show up in droves to support our team! Wither its Miami or Minnesota we will show up! I just wish they would switch the game to Philadelphia so I wouldn’t have to drive so far.

  68. filbertkiwi71 says: Jan 2, 2009 2:14 PM

I will be shocked if the game is blacked out. Given the tough time that so many people are having, the NFL would look real bad if the game was blacked out due to a non-sellout.

  71. tudefit says: Jan 2, 2009 2:31 PM

Minnesota? Hmmmmm – Isn’t this the state that decided to vote for a obnoxious comedian for the Senate? The state has become a joke. Why expect them to sell out a playoff game?
Seriously though. I agree. Allen has no idea many people can’t afford the price of these tickets. So begging the fans to buy them is pathetic. This may be the start of a new trend where athletes will need to lower their salaries so tickets can become affordable.
    Yeah – That’s gonna happen.

  72. zygi milf says: Jan 2, 2009 2:37 PM

The Cardinals haven’t sold out their game yet, either. The Jaguars cover a large number of their seats with a tarp. Los Angeles had two teams move (three if you count the Chargers.) Just where are the Vikings, Cardinals, Jaguars, Rams, Lions, Bengals, etc going to move? Exactly what city/state can afford to build a stadium right now?
The Vikings lost a lot of their fan base in 1982 when they moved into the Metrodome. Believe it or not, they used to have a long waiting list for season tickets when they played outdoors at Met Stadium.
There are several reasons for their problem…
1 – The Metrodome has no on-site parking which means no tailgaiting and high parking fees at garages and surface lots, the seats are small, there are too many seats within each aisle, there are too few restrooms, etc, etc. (It was millions under budget – which was great in 1982.)
2 – The Vikings did not market playoff tickets AT ALL until after they beat NY on Sunday.
    3 – Brad Childress.
4 – The fans have been spoiled by corporate ticket buyouts since 1985 or so, when General Mills guaranteed the Vikings sellouts for years. There were a few blackouts in the mid-90s, but now the local broadcaster has bought out tickets when needed. The fans are ignoring the blackout threat because they know Fox9 will buy the remaining tickets.
5 – That “kick ass offense.”
    6 – Brad Childress.
    7 – Brad Childress.

  73. DiehardChris says: Jan 2, 2009 2:41 PM

Well, I begged Jared Allen to have a drink and go for a drive on a winding, deserted road after he destroyed Houston’s playoff hopes by intentionally taking out Matt Schaub’s knees TWICE – but that didn’t happen either.

  74. bwhancock says: Jan 2, 2009 2:42 PM

How much are you going to get paid for that one playoff game Mr Allen?
Probably more than most families make in a year. Very dumb PR move by the Vikings.

  75. tweinz says: Jan 2, 2009 2:42 PM

When Wilf moves the team there shouldn’t be any complaints from a fanbase that doesn’t seem to want to support the team during the playoffs.

  76. Someone says: Jan 2, 2009 2:45 PM

Florio you ass-clown, why don’t you also talk about Arizona trying to avoid a blackout at the same time?
And do you people know how loony you sound talking about the vikings being an awful team only to follow up with comments on how we should buy tickets to watch it?
I put a lot of blame on local media and their glass half-full dogma. It reminds me of New York’s throwing Eli under the bus until he landed them a Super bowl.
    Everyones a critic…

  77. Tenolein says: Jan 2, 2009 2:51 PM

I was unaware that Jared Allen was apart of a Government Feeding Program.
Why the hell does he have to buy the tickets and ‘give’ them away? What are you people, on welfare?
Last I checked, this was NOT a communist country. And even though Obama wants it to be, it’s not socialist, either.
Why should players on a team that has barely squeaked into the playoffs, being threatened with a blackout playoff game, buy up the remaining tickets? Especially when other teams don’t have this much of an issue (Arizona don’t count. They are regularily blacked out, from what I hear). Especially in the playoffs?
Eff that. Let the game be blacked out. The fair weather fans in Minnesota will then realize that, yes, them going to the game DOES help.

    http://www.nflplayers.com/user/content.aspx?fmid=178&lmid=443&pid=2695
Vikings players will earn 20K for the wild card game from the NFL which is 125 tickets valued at $160 (their contract incentives may provide them more income). Tickets range from $30 to the $160 according to Ticketmaster. If each Viking player can buy 200 tickets, then 5 players per 1,000 tickets or 50 players can buy up 10,000 tickets (estimating).
However, it is not the players job to buy tickets either. Maybe if the demand is not there then the ticket prices should drop. Cut the prices in half or a third and see if they go. Seems simple to me.

  79. Mossey Cade says: Jan 2, 2009 2:54 PM

  85. MostNutsEver says: Jan 2, 2009 3:18 PM

No one is asking Adrian Peterson to buy up the tickets. You know why? Because he’s not begging fans to buy the tickets. The only reason anyone is suggesting Jared Allen should buy the tickets is because he’s begging fans to buy tickets, which comes off as just a tad ironic for a multimillionaire to beg from those who have considerably less, especially given the current economy.

  93. kingotnw says: Jan 2, 2009 3:36 PM

Well kids… I have my tickets either way. People need to get off their asses and pay to see the game. For the life of me I do not understand why this is even an issue. There is all this talk of the economy, the climate, etc. Its all bullshit. People just can’t be bothered to go to games around here.
Last week, I had an extra ticket to the game that I could not even GIVE AWAY to someone. Even Vikings fans were turning me down. Pathetic really. I’m ashamed of the fans in this town.

It’s fun to see the Packer fans come here to vent their frustration over a 6-10 season. What that has to do with the Vikings not selling out the Dome, I’m not so sure.
Just because people are hating on the Vikes don’snt make them Packer fans…get over the Packers already and focus on your team

  95. Osterhouse says: Jan 2, 2009 3:46 PM

I would really love to see the Eagles fall apart and lose and taste the tears of the overly confident Eagle fans and JimmySmith. This Eagle team tied the bengals, are not very good on the road, and oh yeah… Andy Reid is the coach. Bill Simmons makes a nice arguement here http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090102 for the eagles to lose.

I can’t speak for all the Packer fans posting here, but I can certainly say I’m not venting any frustrations over the Packers’ season. I’m just enjoying the show. It’s entertaining to see a team fail to sell out a home playoff game, especially when it’s their first in 8 years. It’s not like home playoff games at the Metrodome come along every year.
And if you think everyone posting in these Vikings tickets threads is a Packer fan I think you’re a touch deluded. On a side note, it’s also funny to see a Viking fan with a user name “Mossey Cade” bitch about fans of another team being obsessed with his team. It smacks of hypocrisy.

  97. nordicnightmare says: Jan 2, 2009 3:57 PM

Anyone else find this ironic? Bitter Packer fans collectively gathered with overly-optimistic Eagles fans who are riding off of a generic high in quite possibly the biggest fluke game in recent history.
These are the losers who will get to watch the Vikings man hadle the Eagles like Lesnar did Couture.
Only morons from Green Bay would tell Jared Allen to buy tickets for the fans. Do you pay your employers to show up for work? His job is to entertain people. His job is to fill the seats by any means necessary. Am I the only person who gets it?
So put your cheese steaks and or family members back in your mouth (depending whether you are from Wisconsin or Philly), and enjoy the playoffs.
    Vikes 27
    Eagles 13
p.s. The name Philadephia derives from the ancient Greek term “brotherly love” which literally refers to times when people married their brothers and sisters. It’s getting more and more difficult to discern the difference from Eagles and Packers fans.

Fwiw, I flew up to Mpls for the Texans/Vikes game in early Nov. The Texans turned it over twice in the redzone that day – they sucked but still only lost 28-21 with a backup QB.
After the game, I’m walking back to our tailgate (in my Andre Johnson jersey) and some goldilocks wearing dude heckled me … something about the Texans being an embarrassment to the NFL. I just smiled and kept walking.
Interesting now that I think back on that moment and recall how a Vikings fan had the nerve to call anyone else an embarrassment to the league.

Whadyya know? Vikings can’t sell out a home playoff game. Boo freaking hoo!
Too bad General Mills can’t bail you out for the 58th time in the last decade, I mean, since their last “blackout” in 1997 LMAO
And people wonder why nobody respects the Vikes and their “fans?”
Watch about 20,000 Eagles fans show up for the game and make it look like another Packers home game at Metrodump.

  102. JimmySmith says: Jan 2, 2009 4:46 PM

Ask yourself this, are the Viking fans the worse in the NFL or is there something I am missing?

    ACDC84,
So we are not REAL fans because we want to spend the game at home with our friends and family? Comments like yours are the reason fans like me hate going to games at the Dome. I am not saying you are this person, but my “Game Experiences” have involved drunk people spilling drinks, throwing things, screaming in my ear, and being rude. Why in the world would i pay around $100 or more/person to go through that in these times?

The Star Trib is now reporting that the Vikings have received another extension: http://blogs.startribune.com/vikingsblog/?p=2376
League sources tell me that if they hit this latest deadline, a note from Zygi’s mom will be required to lift the blackout.

Over sensitive Vikes fans taking Jared Allen’s light-hearted/humorous plea to buy tickets personal. Again, just proves that MN’s NEED something to bitch about. They’re day is not complete without bitching about something. “Jared Allen told us to buy tickets!!!??” GASP!!! GAA! “He should buy them!!!!” Nice response MN clown fans. Its rediculous. MN fans are so fairweather and sensitive its sad. At this point if I was Ziggy, I just may move the team. They guy is trying to build a stadium, with its own big parking lot for all the lesiure and hardcore tailgaters, not to mention a deluxe shopping center. But no MN doesnt need the economy boost, the jobs, or the revenue for the state. Better get Red back so he can cut prices on his vendors and save some dough on team expenses. Free agent signings, fans say no thanks. Big time trade for a DE, fans say no thanks. New stadium, committed owner, Coach worth his salt-that offends fans cause he doesnt booze with em’ at local concerts or call out game-plans before Sunday, fans say no…….
Nice. GFU MN fans. You dont deserve to watch this playoff game anyways, let alone have a team play in your piss-moaning state!

3100 tickets left and another 24 hour extension
    just announced on KFAN
like I’ve said all along to the packer fans posting here, this is going to be another loss for you since you are treating a sellout like the Packers “playoff game”

Jared Allen is the one who get paid out the ass this year. Maybe he can take some of that steakhouse money and buy them up himself. Bum.

As a dedicated Viking fan, this post was probably the most truthful I’ve seen. I cannot begin to elaborate on how often I see this, with the exception of a few fellow REAL fans.
I guess, that’s what I get, living in a whiney, flaming liberal state.

  112. empty13 says: Jan 2, 2009 6:48 PM

they need to sell tickets to the next love boat, that revenue could go toward paying the bill for this playoff fiasco.

Its time to face it your fan base sucks! If this game were being played in Philly or Green Bay. The game would have sold out within minutes. And the tickets would be on sale for hundreds of dollars on ebay or stub-hub rite now. A home playoff game is a gift, and a true football fan would realize that. So when your at the game and you look around and all you see is green. Just remember that your fans had first shot at the tickets but the real football fans showed up instead!

Shame on you Minnesota. You’re not all that broke are you? I don’t think you guys deserve a team. I expected more from you guys. What the hell happened to Minnesota. Bronco fans held on and look what happened. I’m sorry, I defend you guys all the time, but this is pathetic. Get a clue.

Jared Allen Sells Out; MetroDome? Ehhh, Not so much

  116. tripod69 says: Jan 3, 2009 11:09 AM

I think Bud Grant would kick Allens ass of the team, for being an embarrasment, I think this display of pathetic begging is worse than jim marshall running the wrong way.

If Bud grant was dead he would be rolling over in his grave. Jim Marshall picked up the ball, He is running the wrong way. lmao
