T.O. RESPONDS TO CRIS CARTER'S STATED DESIRE TO SHOOT HIM

Last week, ESPN’s Cris Carter touched off a mini-controversy by introducing a new radio shtick focusing on the notion of shooting Terrell Owens before a crowd of credentialed media.
The story didn’t really gain traction, possibly because no one really listens to Cris Carter.
But T.O. heard him, and here’s what T.O. had to say in response, at YardBarker, via BSO:  “This is T.O. and I want to tell you this myself.  People ask me what I thought about what Cris Carter said about me a few days ago.  All I know is, if I’d been the one who had said that about him, what would everyone have thought?”
Um, is there more?
Actually, there isn’t.
So we’re left here with this odd feeling that Owens ascended to the top of the high dive, was preparing to do a Triple Lindy, and then in the end he just said “screw it” and he climbed back down.
Really, why even respond to Carter if you’re not going to raise the stakes?
But at least T.O. made his position known at YardBarker, because the comments are worth the price of admission.
Here’s our favorite:  “do you have your ‘popcorn ready’ to watch the eagles in the playoffs from the couch this year?”

no one cared when Chris Carter when he said that because Carter was ten times the man and team-mate b.o. is and also 99% of NFL fans would shoot him in the leg if they had the chance and 57% would shoot him in the face.

  2. bigblue59 says: Jan 9, 2009 2:10 PM

TO needs to watch out or Pacman will have someone shoot him forget CC he was joking Pacman well we all know about his game

  3. Urinal Mint says: Jan 9, 2009 2:11 PM

Florio, you sound a little bitter at not having more fodder to flame Owens with. The guy shows a little humility and class and all you can do is taunt him because of it?
    Lame.

  4. radneck says: Jan 9, 2009 2:13 PM

I’m sure Chris Carter was kidding about shooting TO even on the surface it sounds really attractive. In the end, I don’t want to see TO shot or dead. I just want him to go away.

  5. Mbehavin2 says: Jan 9, 2009 2:13 PM

Besides Rosenhaus who would miss Owens when he is no longer in the NFL? True he has never been arrested, he was the subject of Police call due his “accidental” overdose; yet, he actually has been quite a disruptive force for at least 3 teams so far.
What Carter said was stupid, no defense for that.
All that talent bottled up inside the most narcissistic person ever to play in the NFL.

  6. DaveMon says: Jan 9, 2009 2:15 PM

TO knows he can’t win any battles played out in the media. He’s trying a new approach- to play the victim of the big bad media’s campaign of hate against him. TO has learned a lesson because of the highly publicized problems within the Dallas locker room this season.
I expect him to lay low, I think Jerry Jones has had a talk with him and told him he’s out if he doesn’t shut his fat mouth. TO recognizes the Cowboys are his last chance, they’re the only franchise stupid enough to put up with him and pay him big money.
I’m not sure how long TO can last putting on this phony act of wisdom and restraint, over/under on week 4 of next season?

My favorite would be if you would stop digging for Cowboy Hate every day and get something newsworthy.

superBROWNS69… Did you use a calculator to come up with those figures?

  9. splibmoney says: Jan 9, 2009 2:22 PM

Florio, you’re a douche. You make it sound like people give a rat’s taint what you think. Get off your high horse.

  10. veverkap says: Jan 9, 2009 2:23 PM

I actually think it’s a really deep thought on T.O.’s part. So deep, I’m not sure I understand.
If he had said that he wanted to shoot Cris Carter, most everyone would have objected more than they did to Cris Carter saying it. Is that his point?

  11. MidnightGreenOmen555 says: Jan 9, 2009 2:23 PM

99% would shoot him in the leg and 57% would shoot him in the face huh?
Hey, I hate T.O. worse than anyone, he ruined my team for a while there. But if we’re going to declare our hatred for the team wrecker we might want to get the percentages correct.

  12. WorldChampionBears2008 says: Jan 9, 2009 2:24 PM

    superBrowns your math is off.
secondly, he’s right if TO had said it he would’ve been crucified by the local media and possibly released by Jerry Jones.
The media are such hypocrites when it comes to their own. The media can protect their own and they’re innocent until proven guilty but no one else can do the same.

  13. Matt Hoover says: Jan 9, 2009 2:25 PM

Mike, for once, T.O. takes the high road and makes a logical point, and now you trash him?
For all the well-intended talk on this site about players and administrators doing the right thing, this is kind of hypocritical.
T.O. should be applauded for being mature (for once) and not sinking to the level of Chris Carter, who should have been fired for his comments. Then again, he’s not Don Imus, so he has that going for him.

  14. dawk20db says: Jan 9, 2009 2:27 PM

I wouldn’t shoot him and i’m an eagles fan!! I absolutely hate doing this, but I understand what he’s “saying” here. If he had said that ESPN should hold a press conference and shoot Cris Carter we would have never heard the end of it. T.O. is an Ass, no doubt about that, but he’s right there would have been a damn fire storm had it been the other way around.

  15. Devils Advocate says: Jan 9, 2009 2:28 PM

wow – for once T.O. took the high road.
    what can i say?
    i am speechless.

  16. east96st says: Jan 9, 2009 2:28 PM

We must be in the “end of days” because I actually agree with Me-O. If HE had said something like that, people would have been screaming for his head. Me-O’s still a jackass, but given the number of psychos out there, athletes should not be talking about shooting other athletes – even in jest. Especially, seeing how often they do manage to get shot. Me-O, if he had any brains, could have pointed out that with Richard Collier, Sean Taylor, and Darrent Williams, the NFL has had enough shootings for that “joke” to no longer be funny.

  17. tmx21 says: Jan 9, 2009 2:28 PM

funny that the comment comes from Cris Carter. He is a class act himself. I think Carter’s resume consists of:
    Domestic abuse
    Drug abuse
Cut from the Eagles for off the field issues
The only thing TO has ever done is be an egotistical jerk. Call him what you want, there isn’t a team in the NFL that wouldn’t take a player like TO in a heartbeat…unless he was a free agent, then the Packers wouldn’t, they don’t sign free agents.

  18. texasPHINSfan says: Jan 9, 2009 2:30 PM

i actually think T.O. played that well. he took the high road & didn’t get in a pissing match, instead saying what a well-spoken coach would say.
what i want to know is, who was it that said that & what did he do with the REAL T.O.??? :)

  19. mike428 says: Jan 9, 2009 2:32 PM

But here’s the problem…if Cris Carter shoots TO only once, then TO will complain that he’s not getting enough bullets coming his way. Could be a no-win situation. LOL

  20. overkil2 says: Jan 9, 2009 2:35 PM

You have to be kidding. Cris Carter was no saint and iirc he had substance abuse problem during his career. He cleaned up his act, but while TO is selfish, TO is more of a model citizen in the law’s eyes than Cris Carter is.

  21. ShootahCowboy says: Jan 9, 2009 2:36 PM

Hate T.O. if you want, but he does have a point. If he had said that, there would be ESPN break-ins, special report, an emergency press conference by the NFL and a SWAT team deployed.

  22. brian_21 says: Jan 9, 2009 2:36 PM

Terrell Owens should be given credit for not lowering himself to Chris Carter’s statement. Plus, that question Owens asked should be responded to. What if T.O. made that statement about Carter instead of vice versa? There’d be a firestorm.
Carter’s logic is oftentimes like Emmitt’s; it should be ignored. Of course, Carter is more articulate than Emmitt, so at least that fact is a plus for his television career.
One thing that should be credited to T.O is that in his entire career, being high profile and all, he’s never been in trouble off the field (except for that hydrocodone overdose). Let me know if I’m wrong, but he hasn’t been arrested and hasn’t been accused of drinking too much or doing drugs. Kind of like Rasheed Wallace in the NBA. With all those technical fouls, you’d expect baggage off the court … but won’t find much.

  23. fordman84 says: Jan 9, 2009 2:38 PM

With his level of interest in asking other people about T.O., it sounds like “superBROWNS69” would definitely like to “shoot TO in the face”.
And I am sure TO would rather watch Philly play from his couch then have to do a dance to avoid McNabb’s puke.

  24. fordman84 says: Jan 9, 2009 2:41 PM

Everyone hammering Mike for making fun of TO for not being a tool and lowering himself to Carters level needs to remember that Florio is the same guy that made fun of a guy for walking away from domestic abuse and reporting to the authorities like the law says you should.

  25. Mike D says: Jan 9, 2009 2:44 PM

TO and Carter should settle it like they used to do in the old West – with pistols at 10 paces.
    Who would win? Football fans.

  26. RSKindred says: Jan 9, 2009 2:49 PM

I’m curious… was the movie “Back To School” really that popular that everyone knows of, or refers to, the Triple Lindy?
Personally, I loved it. That girl in the shower is FTW.
Wait, who were were supposed to be talking about?

  27. hrmlss says: Jan 9, 2009 2:50 PM

I think he meant 42% would actually like to shoot him only once, leg, and 57% would choose twice leg and face.

I’m sure he still has some popcorn left over from last year when he was watching from the couch.

Thank-you Mike F./contributor from an Eagle’s fan. I sometimes think about what coulda been if the Eagles would have given some of the third year bonus in the second year to T.O.. I think both TO and D-Mac would have been easy HOF shoe-ins by now…(both might still make it in)
Football, though, is not about “coulda been”, it’s about “could happen”. That is why we watch!
Hey TO-I got a big tub of popcorn if you want to come watch it at my house.

carter was making a point, saying who deserved the first bullet (i believe the exact words were “from the gittyup”). and obviously also having some fun with the cowboy aspect. How does one get rid of a cowboy they don’t want? of course, they shoot him. now make a federal case out of that you fools.
as to the dallas fans saying florio only hates on the boys, once you put yourself up as the national team, expect much love and much hate. since you haven’t had anything on the field to cheer about lately, its only to be expected that most of what will be written will reflect your on the field (and off the field) lack of performance.
since at least half the cowboy fans have never set foot in texas, and only jumped on the bandwagon when either dorsett and staubach ruled, or when emmitt and troyboy and michael were on top, why would you expect those of us who stay with our teams win or lose instead of joining the winners of that day (see many niners jackets lately?) to not hate the cowboys and their phony fans? for the past ten years, we heard nothing and now that t.o. and romo are there, the jackets are coming out of the closets again.
put em back. jerrah has almost completely destroyed the team parcells built for him, and in two years he will have completely destroyed it.
oh yeah, win a playoff game sometime this century. its been over a decade now… we’re waiting…. imagine the noise you’d make if you actually won something on the field.

If someone “jumped on the bandwagon” back when dorsett and staubach played or even Troy, Emmitt, and Michael played, and are still there ARE true fans! The 80’s were horrible and so were the late 90’s/early 2000’s.
The ones that jumped on last year are the phony ones.
THINK before you post something stupid like that, moron.
And, as a Cowboy fan, I understand how a non-Cowboy fan can hate him. I did, before he came here and even now he’s sometimes a pain, but he’s done 1 very minor thing in 3 years, and he still gets as much attention as he was getting when the whole fiasco with him and McNabb was going on, which I don’t understand.

  42. fordman84 says: Jan 9, 2009 4:32 PM

mdel1120 McNabb threw up the last time he was in an important game. He is more of a choker than the Cowboys, Mavs, and Bob Stoops put together.
And to smilergrogan (great name by the way!), Dallas didn’t put “ourselves up as the national team”. The media gave us that title.

“If someone “jumped on the bandwagon” back when dorsett and staubach played or even Troy, Emmitt, and Michael played, and are still there ARE true fans!”
That brings up a good point. The Cowboys have had at least 5 QBs that were better than anybody the Eagirls ever put on the field. Meredith, Morton, Staubach, White, Aikman, and we can probably put Romo on that list before his career is over. The best the eagles have ever had is who? van Brocklin, Jaworski, Cuningham? Don’t make me laugh. Don’t say McNabb. He has no heart.
How many RBs? Duane Thomas, Tony Dorsett, Emmitt Smith. Best the Eagirls can offer up is who… Westbroke?
WR’s? Wow, how about Bob Hayes, Drew Pearson, Michael Irvin, Tony Hill. What about the Eagirls? Mike Quick? Harold Carmichael? haha
Tight Ends? Novacek, Ditka, Cosbie, Witten. Who’s the best Eagles TE ever? LJ Smith?
Get my meaning? There were hardly any Eagirl fans before 2000, just like Pats fans. They’re all over the place now.

  46. TonyDent says: Jan 9, 2009 4:54 PM

  47. Vox Veritas says: Jan 9, 2009 4:54 PM

“Why report on this if the stakes weren’t raised? ”

So wearing the jerseys and jackets are what make them fans? I know tons of Cowboys fans, DIE HARD Cowboys fans, and they don’t own any memorabilia. I have 2 Cowboys jerseys, but I don’t wear them “out and about” because I’m not a teenager or in a rap video.
As for your list you compiled there…
The bike and Armstrong jersey? Are you kidding? How was that a distraction? You’re reaching on that one.
failure to learn plays? Please! Tell that to he and Romo’s 33 TD connections over the last 2 1/2 years.
Attempted Suicide: You honestly think that was an attempted suicide? If so, okay you can have that one, but you’re a complete idiot.
Falling asleep in meeting: Yes, I’m sure Terrell Owens is the only player in NFL history to ever fall asleep in meetings. Even if he was, he started and scored that Sunday. Man, what a HUGE distraction!
“Crying” about not getting the ball enough is something every single wide receiver does. Don’t give me that crap.
Getting into a “fiasco” (you SHOULD be in the media) with Todd Haley. Okay, do you honestly believe that coaches and players never bump heads? Because it was T.O., was the only reason this was so publicized. You think if some practice squad receiver from Atlanta were to get into it with a coach it would make news? Nope.
Dividing the locker room and forcing jerry jones to choose between him and Parcells? You know what? This is getting pathetic. You find me that ultimatum T.O. gave to Jerry and I’ll give you this one.
Calling out Parcells, and welcoming Wade? Big deal. Parcells was gone at that point. How could have been a distraction, or anything else for that matter?
Crying after the playoff loss? What affect did this have on anything or anyone? You’re just pulling stuff out of your ass now.
bringing attention to himself by hurting the team’s goals: What? I have no idea what you’re talking about here.
leading the league in drops in 2007: 81 catches, 1,355 yards, 15 TDs. WOW Horrible season.
dividing the 2008 lockerroom by including Williams and Crayton in his “fight” against Romo and Witten: You make it seem worse than it really was, but THIS is the one incident I was talking about.
    You Lose.

Get a grip ware94…..NO ONE really cares…Stop wasting breath and time…..Teach the Cowgirls the heimlich maneuver for the next time they choke….REAL teams are still playing….

  55. EskinSux says: Jan 9, 2009 8:00 PM

all this rebuttal…..and TO has been on the winning sidelines in the playoffs as much as greg lewis…….LMAO

Does anyone else find it strange that Vox was able to post exactly 6 times in a row on a hot topic and all his comments are rated 5/5 by exactly 6 voters. Sounds like someone broke into the computer lab at the local community college and registered for exactly 6 passwords. What a loser. Do me a favor. Eagles Vs cowgirls at the Linc next year. PLEASE come and wear a Romo jersey with a sign that says “I’m Vox Veritas from PFT”. PLEASE GOD LET THIS HAPPEN….ps…you aren’t from Texas….your favorite baseball team is the yankees….44-6…..Romo fainted in the shower….pps….before you make statements about Romo’s legacy, remember he has about 8 less playoff wins than Donny

  57. smilergrogan says: Jan 9, 2009 8:05 PM

    ware:
no, actually your boys lose: 44-6. its only been a couple weeks. you surely haven’t forgotten so soon have you.
and now you’re playing with yourselves this week instead of the giants.
and our weak one playoff win last week equals more than t.o. and/or the cowboys have accomplished since the 90’s. the cowboys were a borderline playoff team without much talent (quincy carter) when parcells began to build a winning team. Now they are a borderline playoff team that thinks it has a lot of talent but never plays like it.
if t.o. has been so great and none of those things i noted meant anything, and with all those pro bowl players everywhere, what happened?
If what you describe is true, it would logically lead to some great seasons with some advancement in the playoffs, no?
the answer is no, because t.o. makes it about him, not the team. always.
so, ultimately with t.o. on your team, you lose.
tune in sunday at one. its the only game on.

As per standard operating procedure, we will not be accepting feedback from Cowgirls fans outside the state of Texas. HAVE SOME GUTS AND ROOT FOR YOUR HOME TEAM!

  59. andyreid says: Jan 9, 2009 8:44 PM

“Americas Team, How bout them cowgirls”, these sayings are antiques. Vox was 14 growing up in Cleveland when that era ended with Troy going mongoloid. Long time ago. Grow up and root for your home team candy asses.

    “rat’s taint” classic…love it!

I don’t know what’s more pathetic: T.O. himself, Florio’s hard-on for bashing him without substance *this* time, or the pathetic Iggles mob who can’t get over him exposing the franchise for what it is: lead by a bloated joke of a HC with a puking pansy of a qb that’s going to get their ass handed to them on Sunday.
    GO BIG BLUE!!!

  62. andyreid says: Jan 9, 2009 11:03 PM

Funny, there it is again. I posted some recycled stuff and within 3 minutes I had received exactly 6 votes with a 1 rating. I understand I am not popular here but there aren’t even 6 people on here right now commenting on a story a day old. Something is fishy in Vox’s mom’s basement and its not the pile of filet of fish sandwich containers that have been accumulating since the 44-6 de-pantsing at the Linc.

    T.O = a team staph infection

  64. ware94 says: Jan 10, 2009 1:30 AM

    smilergrogan,
You want to explain to me how T.O.’s drops in 07, or his Armstrong jersey, or any of the other crap you listed contributed to the Cowboys’ loss?
    You can’t, because it doesn’t.
How did you get to talking about that team now? You go from talking about how Cowboy fans are phonies, to T.O., and now to the Cowboys team. And when someone points out how stupid your comments are you start talking about something else. Just give up.
    Eskinsux,
Who the hell are you? No one said anything to you.

  65. mrmagoo says: Jan 10, 2009 7:24 AM

Vox has a nice little login collection.
Vox, you should spread all this bitterness into other threads. You could do it today when other fans are watching their teams in the playoffs since you’ll have some free time.

  66. smilergrogan says: Jan 10, 2009 8:25 AM

ware: after saying carter was joking about the cowboy connection. i noted the phony cowboy fans that adopted the star during a winning period, like bandwagon jumpers everywhere. you then responded to that and offered up the position that t.o.’s only done one minor thing in the past three seasons. i note the dozen or so off the top of my head that made the papers. believe me, 80% of his bullshit is endured inhouse and never reported. you then respond that none of those were distractions, and that i am a fool.
rather than argue item by item, i then note that if what you say is true, it would seem that the cowboys would have done better these last three years. i mean, absent loss of focus, how does that talent not win? unless of course you think they aren’t talented. that was the point of noting all the items on the list, to imply that it is connected to dallas’s failures.
now, if you’d rather get in a pissing match over todd haley, or the bike; you already know what you think, and i know what i think.
one item i will note, however, was that the ultimatum didn’t come from t.o., it came from parcells. if parcells thought t.o.’s biking, sleeping, sleeping pills, etc. was helpful, i’m sure he would have embraced all of it. but parcells is only concerned with winning. that’s why he drafted your namesake, and built the team dallas had two years ago. jerry chose t.o. instead because bill wouldn’t let him play g.m./personnel expert instead of owner (and parcells took 1-15 to 11-5 and the playoffs). parcells would have gotten rid of t.o. and never taken tank and pacman. and dallas couldn’t have had any less disappointing result, and may have done way better.
but dware, feel free to love you some t.o., brother.
i would just say judge t.o. on his body of work since his arrival, and judge the results. and if you say there’s no connection, and that he’s improved the cowboys prospects, and that none of his “i love me some me” has had any negative effect, then continue to believe that. and next year come this week, see if t.o. has brought you any good news.
as previously noted, tune in tomorrow. its the only game on.
just for the record, eskin does suck, so this guy is right about that.

  67. ware94 says: Jan 10, 2009 2:37 PM

And again you avoid explaining how any of that contributed to their losses. Don’t forget that Parcells also built the coaching staff, and it was only after he took them away, that they started going down.
Parcells is their and able to control the personalities and they win. Parcells left, they bring in a cupcake for a coach and a young “bright mind” to be offensive coordinator, who can’t control the personalities on the team.
You want to know the real reason their offense went into the crapper? The departure of Tony Sparano. He assisted Garrett with the playcalling in 2007. He leaves and Garrett suddenly isn’t such a bright mind anymore.
So don’t give me that T.O. is to blame for why their season down in flames. Poor playcalling and passive coaching is to blame.
