IS SOMETHING GOING DOWN IN MOTOWN?

Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com, whose finger is always on the pulse of the Detroit Lions franchise (even when it doesn't have a pulse), thinks that the team might be close to hiring a new head coach.

"There is nothing -- absolutely nothing -- coming out of Allen Park today and my suspicion is that the Lions are putting the final touches on securing a new head coach," Kowalski writes.  "I have no hard knowledge of this, but I've seen this before -- the quiet before the storm."

Kowalski points out that the Lions interviewed candidates on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and that nothing is happening on Thursday.

It's believed that Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is the favorite.  The other possibilities are Dolphins secondary coach Todd Bowles and Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.  Bowles has had two interviews, and Rivera interviewed Wednesday, three days after his team was eliminated from the postseason.

Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo were interviewed prior to this week, and have not been invited for second interviews.

Yes hire Spags, leave Schwartz here in Tenn.

    1. Spags has no shot in Detroit. Word from the Jets interview was that he wanted control over the player personnel and Mayhew wants no part of that, unfortunately.

    2. Saying that Kowalski has his "finger on the pulse" of the Lions franchise is a joke. This is the same guy earlier this year that said Roy Williams would in no way be traded and that Millen wouldn't be fired no matter what happened during the season. The guy has been throwing out nothing but speculation ever since the front office stopped leaking information to the media. He hasn't had a solid story in months.

I think that they will hire a first round reciever as the coach.

What difference does it make? Until the old man gives up the team they'll always suck.

Isn't it like -20 Wind Shill Factor in the D right now? I wouldn't be doing anything either.

Yeah hire Spaggs. Now that Gregg Williams is out of the DC pool if we lose Schwartz who are we gonna get to replace him?

"Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com, whose finger is always on the pulse of the Detroit Lions franchise..."
Jeez Florio... where's your grip on reality. Kowalski is wrong more than he's right... he does a lot of speculating and more often than not says nothing at all. Killer Kowalski reported that Roy Williams would not be traded... and a few days later... that's just one example. He is quite likely the type to recieve mis-information from Allen Park, because they know he's get the speculation chain going strong. I wouldn't put much credence on anything he says. If he's right... it's 50-50 when you guess, isn't it?

Let's not forget that for the past two offseasons, everyone was saying that about Leslie Frazier. Now he's a hot candidate for several positions.

They are just starting their scouting for the elegible wideouts for the upcoming draft.
