According to Adam Schefter, former Rams coach Scott Linehan is en route to the Bay Area for a second meeting with the 49ers about their vacant offensive coordinator position.
Of the four known candidates for the job, Linehan is the first to have a second interview. It is not known if former Browns offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, Broncos offensive coordinator Rick Dennison or Colts wide receivers coach Clyde Christensen will be back for another visit with Mike Singletary and company.
In recent days the 49ers interviewed Browns quarterback coach Rip Scherer and Broncos quarterback coach Pat McPherson for their opening at that position, which could be read as a good sign for Chudzinski or Dennison, respectively. Linehan’s return visit tends to shoot down that conventional wisdom, however.

I still think Chudzinski is a good, young coordinator that could build an offensive system that would would most greatly benefit Vernon Davis.
HA HA!
This guy loves Mike Martz’s sloppy seconds.
What are the Niners thinking? Do they actually want to get worse? Linehan may have called good Offense in the past but look at what he did to the Rams….
Haven’t the 49ers already tried a Rams head coach at the offensive coordinator position?
Linehan would be good. Sure he had Moss in Minnesota, but he had Gus Frerotte and Sage Rosenfels in Miami and still had a respectable offense.
Maybe he’ll be OK as a coordinator….maybe. All I know is that he really really REALLY sucked as a head coach. The players have absolutely no confidence in the guy.
florio, can you confirm if part of the interview process would be dropping drawers in front of the team and going “shiancoe” on them?
Hey Norv Turner sucks whenever he is a head coach but when he is the Offensive Coordinator he usually does really well.
As a 49ers fan I celebrate this decision. It is beneficial since Linahan sucked as a HC but was a good OC at Miami and Minnasota. Also, he has worked with Shaun Hill before and loves a strong running game, so this is a great decision. Go 49ers
