RAMS HIRE SPAGNUOLO

Reports out of St. Louis were all over the place over the last couple of days, but the Rams have finally landed their man. Adam Schefter is reporting that the Rams have hired Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo as their new head coach.
Per Schefter, it is a four-year, $11.5 million deal.
That leaves the Raiders and Jets as the only NFL teams without head coaches and leaves Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, all rumored to be front-runners for the job at one point or another, to chase other positions or return to their current jobs.

I guess the question that has to be asked, why didn’t Frazier get a head coaching job this year?

  8. Shackman says: Jan 17, 2009 4:47 PM

Great hire for the Rams. Here’s hoping that he can improve the team on both sides of the ball and help the Rams return to prominence.

Interesting, heard on ESPN that the guy was Ryan and if not him, then Garrett, Spags was an afterthought.

Spagnuola came here with Johnson thinkng as his background. For Giants to go back to the mindset of Coughlin’s previous defensive thinking like his brilliant signing of Tim Lewis who he defended for years until he was forced to fire the man for his gross incompetance, Giants defense will revert to exactly what it was before Spagnuola was hired here.
Johnny Lynn and Tim Lewis days are coming back again!
Just more bad news in a poorly run organization who should have made sure he never left or at least gone out and replaced him with a top co-ordinator. Oh yes, “hiring from within” will surely be money saving but it wasn’t done when Spagnuola was hired.
Bad news for Giants fans and there will be more when it becomes evident that no top free agents costing real money will be signed.
    Candidates on Giants site
All 3 the incompetant Tim Lewis’ former assistants. But Mara/Tisch will save money by not signing a top defensive co-ordinator as they need the money bad now.
Bill Sheridan is in his fourth season as the Giants’ linebackers coach.
Mike Waufle is a 30-year coaching veteran who is in his fifth season with the Giants.
Peter Giunta is in his third season as the Giants’ secondary coach/cornerbacks.

Yep, ESPN has been wrong about most of the firings and hirings this offseason. Mort has been especially off the mark. Maybe the WorldWideLeader needs to find a better way to steal other people’s scoops.

Good luck, Spags. Sorry to see you go.

  14. pftfreak says: Jan 17, 2009 6:34 PM

Spag’s is gonna be mistaken if he thinks he can turn the rams defense into the Giants defense. maybe if the organization is patient enough to have two or three more losing seasons, so he can turn this organization around.

Bob S.- Poorly run organization??? You have absolutely no idea of what you’re talking about, absolutely none.

Good hire. Glad to have him out of the East. As an Eagles fan, this is good news. With the Giants and Cowboys dealing with holes, the Eagles are primed to win the East next year with very minor changes (TE, RB, and FB).

yes SINCE the 2 sons inherited the team from their fathers. are giants playoing tomorrow against any of the 4 teams(phil., ariz., balt. , pitts.) they beat this year with burress on their roster?
because the owners having serious money problems saw several million saved by suspending him immediately on their own and not waiting until seasons end when they could possibly replace him with a quality player in march. they wont do that anyway because top free agents cost money.
now to replace him who completely turned giants defense asround with one of the 3 guys who worked for tim lewis the incompetant who they finally fired is totally absurd. why didnt they sign one of them 2 years ago when they went outside the organization and got johnsons 8 year assistant? why? because they knew then these guys were not the answer. so now they are ? give me a break! the only thing they are is they come cheap. every single mara/tisch sons move recently is a money saving movie- nothing else.

@b0b s.. please close your mouth, lest you reveal to all how ignorant you are. When making a blanket statement such as “poorly run organization” please quantify and provide examples.

I hope that the Raiders hire Frazier. The last time we had a defensive minded coach that had a good run with team was John Madden. If we can hire Frazier, we can keep Cable as Assistant coach and either as line coach or offensive coordinator . I prefer line because they performed well when they had his attention. Frazier would then be able to hire the right defensive coaches for this team and Cable will be in charge of hiring offensive gurus

    for starters
    #1 – PSL fraud
#2 – suspend burress on their own before end of season which still would not have ended for Giants

Syler, little Bobby has been in a snit since the Giants announced the PSLs. He can’t afford his tickets anymore and has been bashing the Giants organization ever since. He spends all his waking hours talking out his ass. He’s PFT’s mound of dog crap, just step over him.

I don’t know how much help he’d be with that whole bullet to the leg deal.

waufle wouldnt be a bad choice, he is firey and the giants d line has been excellent for several years now. Romeo crennel is my top choice, bring him back to the giants. Hes still a great d coordinator and a likeable guy.
bob s, i love that youre a giant fan but i have to agree with east69 as usual, youre talking out of your ass homie. Maybe im still bitter because it’s only been 6 days but the 3rd and 20 conversion is still fresh in my mind. Osi will relieve some doubt with our D next season. now how can we persuade al davis to hire kevin g?

Can’t argue or refute the statements so the 2IQ resorts to chldish name calling and common trash’s “trash talking”. And it’s tiny brain is so intrigued by whatever I say , it has to comment every single time, it sees a post by me, but tells others to ignore. It’s a hypocrite 2IQ to boot!

if davis does not sign gilbride, maybe spags will repay the giants for kick starting his career and do the giants a huge favor by bringing gilbride with him to st. louis?

  26. east96st says: Jan 18, 2009 9:21 AM

Little Bobby – You can’t even form a proper sentence and you dare to try to talk about IQ? My 3rd grader can write better than you! Let’s look at your “theories”. Giants owners are “too cheap”. Is that why they signed Tuck to a fat contract before his rookie contract was over? Is that why they re-did Plax’s contract? Is that why they gave Webster a fat contract to make sure he didn’t hit free agency? Is that why they are poised to give Eli one of the NFL’s richest deals? As usual, you ignore the facts to carry on your sad little vendetta. Your other “brilliant” theory was that Plax COULD play right after the shooting because he was seen WALKING into the police station. Once again, ignoring the facts. Plax had a HOLE IN HIS LEG!!!! If that wasn’t enough to keep him off the field, he was on the injury report as being “OUT” because his hammy was a mess, so he couldn’t play EVEN IF HE HAD NOT SHOT HIMSELF. Being able to walk is far, far different than being ready to run, block, and be tackled for four quarters. I understand that’s too complex for you to figure out. Think of it this way, I’m sure you can walk. Can you be the Giants number one receiver? No? Well, I guess it takes more than the ability to walk, assclown. Once again, you ignore obvious facts to rail against the Maras and the Tischs. Then, in one of your most moronic posts, you claim the only reason the Giants beat Arizona was Plax. He played two or three downs on the opening drive and stayed on the sidelines the rest of the game because of his hammy pull. Not a SINGLE ball thrown his way. Wrong again, Bobby. Your ignorance is appalling. If you could manage to write something that was actually factual, it would mark a first for you! What’s so, so, sad about you Bobby, is beyond your lies, beyond your inability to write a complete sentence, you can’t acknowledge that the hypocrite here is you (interesting how you use the word “hypocrite” only after I pointed out you are a hypocrite in a post two days ago. Try to use your own words, Bob. It’s sad, but not surprising, that you have to steal from me to try to make a point against me.) All those years as a season ticket holder and you NEVER once stood up for the truly poor kids in and around NYC that could not afford to go to a single game. Never did you speak out on their behalf. Never did you give them your tickets for a game. The Giants organization was just “aces” in your book UNTIL YOU COULDN’T AFFORD YOUR TICKETS! Then, overnight, they morphed into the “evil empire” and you have been carrying on ever since. Here’s a thought you apparently never had – write something factual, Bob. Don’t just talk endless amounts of sh*t because you’re bitter and sad. Actually, TRY to make a legitimate point. You lost your tickets. Boo hoo hoo. Grow up, act like a man for once in your life, and be grateful for all the years you were at the games. Think of all the kids who never went and never will. They would kill to have your “problems” for a day.
