SCHOTTENHEIMER STAYING WITH JETS ISN'T SURE THING

Brian Schottenheimer hasn’t decided whether he wants to remain the Jets’ offensive coordinator after he didn’t get promoted to head coach.  NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports that, despite reports that Schottenheimer is staying in New York, a decision might not be made until the end of the week.
The Jets apparently want Schottenheimer to stay.  It’s a matter of whether he wants to continue working for a franchise that passed him over when hiring a head coach.
While Schottenheimer has a year remaining on his contract, assistants are often allowed to leave under such circumstances.
Schefter reports that Schottenheimer is “curious about other opportunities.”  There are six openings for offensive coordinators right now, including one in New England, which could lead to an interesting twist in a bitter rivalry between the Jets and Patriots.
UPDATE:  Per the Baltimore Sun, Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson could become Rex Ryan’s offensive coordinator if Schottenheimer leaves.

  1. Could the Jets make a condition to his release from contract that he CANNOT go to certain teams (like say the division rival Patriots) or do they lose all rights if they cut him loose?

  2. Please hire him Belicheck! Level the playing field by hiring him! Schottenheimer should be considered for Defensive coordinator because he’s great at stopping an offense!

  3. “While Schottenheimer has a year remaining on his contract, assistants are often allowed to leave under such circumstances.”
Finally, someone at PFT acknowledges this.

  4. Please stay with the NYJ, Brian! As a Pats’ fan, I love your ultra-conservative, play not to lose style. Belichick is too smart to hire this bum.

  5. The Jets should keep him there to make the coffee in the morning for Rex Ryan and Hue Jackson. Its a good deal for him. If he goes to New England he might have to be the undercover video guy or something.

  6. Just heard the Jets told Brett Favre to take a hike.
Damn, I was going to enjoy laughing at that backwards retard.

  7. Schottenheimer is such a wuss! Just because he doesn’t want to get punched is no reason to quit! take your ball and go home you baby!

hey the browns need a qb coach and assistant head coach. he’s probably calling mangini as we speak.”
    Wrong.
Brian Daboll, recently hired as our O-Coord., is going to be the O-Coord., and work with the QB’s too. That was his job with the J-E-T-S

  10. Here’s betting MangIdiot brings him to Cleveland to continue their proven track record – and maybe, if MangIdiot promises to name another son after Brett Favre, he can coax him to join him there too!
