Chargers have a lot of upcoming contracts - it would be nice to get LT at a cheaper price tag considering his production in the playoffs over the last two years.
They are paying him to be their everything but I think it's clear that Rivers has overtaken him for that role

LT's future with the Chargers is limited. Teams know what a failing proposition it is to throw big money at an injured back regardless of how dominant he may have been. It's funny, a year ago he was by far the best back in the league and now he's almost an afterthought. I expect SD will throw their money at their other core players and move LT. Perhaps someone like the Pats will be involved. They seem to be in play whenever a talented vet is undervalued.

you can't win mvp without a good win loss %
that said, rivers did get screwed out of the OPOY award simeply because AP voters were enamored with the yards passing stat and neglected the fact that rivers threw for the same amount of tds, in 160 less passes as brees, and that rivers had a much higher qb rating
in fact he led the entire nfl in qb rating, and yards per attempt, without much of a rushing attack to back him up.

I can't stand Rivers, but certainly the Chargers should move the earth to retain him. Does anyone else think that A.J.'s wording of "contract offer or franchise tag" sounds a little crass? Rivers is your star QB fergawdssake! Way to apply pressure before the talks have even begun.

Rivers should of been MVP as he posted way better numbers than Peyton Manning and he’s beaten him twice in the playoffs he should of been MVP. More touchdowns and yards with less to work with. Rivers deserves $218 million a year cause he’s the best QB in the history of the NFL
====================================================
"the best QB in the history of the NFL"?
I don't know wtf you're smokin there, frenchy, but I want some, lol.
Rivers is the real deal and deserves to cash in, no doubt about it.
Dude is very talented and tough as nails.
But "the best QB in the history of the NFL"?
Ah, no.
