After the 2008 draft, veteran scout Buddy Nix made an abrupt and surprising departure from the Chargers.
The move was described as a retirement, but some league insiders believed that Nix was forced out by G.M. A.J. Smith, especially since the same news release announcing Nix’s departure also heralded the hire of former Saints and Dolphins G.M. Randy Mueller.
As the 2009 draft approaches, Nix is back with the Bills, where he worked from 1993 through 2000.
Nix, 69, will serve as a national scout for the Bills.

Bills have a pretty good scouting organization, as I understand it.
Nix is also very good friends with Marty Schottenheimer, which is the reason AJ Smith forced him out after firing Schottenheimer. This immediately makes Brian Schottenheimer a leading candidate for head coach of the Bills in 2010, with possibly Marty as the interim coach if Jauron is fired during the 2009 season
