Only a handful of days after the name “Dan Reeves” made a dramatic and unexpected return to the NFL landscape, with the former Broncos, Giants, and Falcons coach linked to the offensive coordinator position in San Francisco, Reeves could be landing instead in Dallas.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Reeves currently is engaged in talks with the Cowboys regarding a possible role as a consultant.
Though Reeves’ precise role at this point isn’t clear, it’s possible that he could serve in a Bill Parcells-style role with the team, overseeing the personnel and coaching functions.
For owner Jerry Jones, who also serves as the team’s General Manager, bringing a guy like Reeves aboard would represent an implicit concession that Jones realizes the team needs help.
Current coach Wade Phillips once worked for Reeves as a defensive coordinator, and Reeves’ son-in-law, Joe DeCamillis, was hired not long ago to be the Cowboys’ new special teams coordinator.
Reeves played for the Cowboys in the 1960s and 1970s, and he worked for Tom Landry as an assistant coach.
During his playing and coaching career, Reeves was involved in a total of nine Super Bowls — two as a player, three as an assistant coach, and four as a head coach.
Reeves has been out of football since being fired by the Falcons during the 2003 season.

P.S

Gotta get me some

World Wide Prestige!
I can just see it. The Cowboys hire Dan Reeves in preparation for…wait for it…Michael Vick!
Cowgirls will still be a fluke as long as romo has a part in there soap opera
Maybe this means Vick will be their QB.
Is it not time to put up the news on TO’s stupid Reality show. I hate being a Cowboys fan right not. Jerry, thanks for making your team into such a spectacle, that the fans that have been their for ever are embarrassed for being a GD fan.
Dan Reeves = too much class to work with such drek.
I guess this means no more Dan Reeves on Westwood One radio…
Wait, Mort reported this? Solid… as solid as TO’s mental status.
so is this the same Mort that also reported that Shanahan was close to a deal with the Cheifs?
when it comes to what Mort reports, i like to take a “ill believe it when i see it” approach these days
Reeves has not been out of football since 2003. He was hired as a consultant to the Texans in ’05-06. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2256872

………………..
actually he was brought into the Houston Texans as a consultant during the 2005 season…
seems they have turned things around a bit
As long as the Cowboys don’t bring in Michael “Coach Killer/Canine Population Control Expert” Vick, all will be well.
The owner Jerry Jones had the best talent acquisition man
in the NFL with Bill Parcells. Evidently Jerry did not
listen. Well what makes anyone think that Jerry will listen
now. This latest endeavor by Jerry Jones is proof that the
owners in the NFL should also be drug tested.
Atlanta brought on a quadruple bypass. Dallas will kill him.
As a Cowboy fan I really feel if Jerry Jones or Stephen Jones (we know who is pulling the strings) does not give up the GM title this team will not be successful. I would love a guy like Pioli or Acorsi but JJ won’t give up the GM title. When is he going to realize that the game has passed him by and he CANNOT assess talent. Other then the Parcells Era there have been some REAL bad draft picks in Dallas.
I don’t care if Jesus Christ is a Cowboys consultant. If there is no harmony in the locker room and the team with all of the talent in the world does not play together they will not win. Period.
Maybe jerry has hereby admitted dallas has a problem.
11 more steps to go.
Don’t worry cowboy fans- didn’t mortensen also report lots of other made up stories????????????????????/
Besides, I hope he does bring vick- it’s just the type of dallas drama redskins fans love
This is actually the first positive sign I’ve seen regarding the Cowboys in a long while. If true I think it helps them tremendously.
Jason Garett desperately needs a mentor IMHO.
Perhaps he’s being hired to fill the role of babysitter.
“I hate being a Cowboys fan right not.”
Quit yer bitchin. Be a fan or don’t be a fan. Make a choice for once in your life.
“The owner Jerry Jones had the best talent acquisition man

I’d like to believe that, but Parcells couldn’t draft a good offensive lineman to save his ass in four drafts with the Cowboys.
Al Johnson
Justin Bates
Jacob Rogers
Stephen Peterman
Rob Petitti
Pat McQuistan
E.J. Whitley
And thank God for Terence Newman or I’d be saying that he couldn’t draft a DB to save his mom’s ass, either. But how good at talent acquisition do you have to be to get a good DB with the 5th overall pick in a draft that’s loaded with quality DB’s?
“Other then the Parcells Era there have been some REAL bad draft picks in Dallas. ”
You don’t have to exclude the Parcells era when talking about bad draft picks. How are you liking Bobby Carpenter at 18th overall?
“Besides, I hope he does bring vick- it’s just the type of dallas drama redskins fans love”
You keep sucking, last place Deadskins. That’s the type of drama that Cowboys fans love.
