REEVES TO DALLAS LOOKS TO BE A DONE DEAL

One of the great things about Radio Row is that the room attracts plenty of people who have access to plenty of NFL rumors.
And though this one isn’t much of a shock, we’ve heard enough to conclude that Dan Reeves will very soon be joining the Dallas Cowboys as a Bill Parcells or Floyd Reese-style consultant.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN first reported the possible move earlier this week.
It doesn’t mean that the Cowboys will fire coach Wade Phillips, especially since Phillips and Reeves have worked together extensively in the past.
It also doesn’t mean that owner Jerry Jones will listen to anything that Reeves has to say, if it conflicts in any way with that which Jones already wants to hear.

Mort still has enough credit at ESPN to still be reporting about front office moves? Maybe I can get a job

Good to hear Gil Brandt is at Radio Row again doing laps in his sweatsuit, hoping someone will finally ask him to be on their show.

    ………………
i honestly dont think Jerry Jomnes is that stupid despite
all appearances to the contrary…i bet 44-6 left a deeper impression on him than it did on some PFT posters
i like this…Reeves probably will be in the HOF some day & he has
always been at heart a Dallas Cowboy..
he is a bridge from the Landry era to this currrent group of clowns
so it would not surprise me if Jones also hired his new coach..
but then again Reeves might recommend Shanahan

So I guess Reeves will occupy as much of ‘GM’ role as is possible under Jerry. All in all I think its a good thing if Reeves can talk some sense to Jerry and provide experience for Garrett and Romo’s development along with assistance in the ‘tough love’ Wade transformation.

And the Good Old Boy network marches on……..
Retreads work, but not as well as new rubber.

  6. dlr4skins says: Jan 28, 2009 6:44 PM

I knew that Bruce Allen to the ‘Skins made too much sense.
Pull the trigger already Snyder, you have to keep up with the Jones’.
(Don’t worry as I’m sure Vinny can’t hear you when he’s under your desk.)
I hate the owner & the “front ofice” although they out performed Dallas’ this year.
Sad state of affairs for two of the leagues best teams. Guys with that much money really suck.

  7. empty13 says: Jan 28, 2009 6:47 PM

people with that kind of $$$$$$$$$$4… snyder and jones… think ou can buy anything.
well, ya cant. reeves isnt bringing vick in. but he can restore the toughness dallas used to have. and shove the glitz out the door.
i think it’s a good hire, if jones hands over the reins.

  8. andyreid says: Jan 28, 2009 6:48 PM

Great. Too bad the guys on the team are terrible at the sport of football.

  9. promichael says: Jan 28, 2009 6:50 PM

Florio Reeves to Dallas sounds wonderful, another exercise in
    FUTILITY!!!

  10. blackglass3 says: Jan 28, 2009 6:53 PM

So Dan Reeves got hired to provide suggestions and ideas that Jerry Jones won’t listen to?
Jeez, he might as well hire all of us as “consultants” too.

  11. phreak says: Jan 28, 2009 7:05 PM

Wow, Reeve gets paid to give an advice to Jones who will not listen?
    Nice!

  12. patbowlensfurcoat says: Jan 28, 2009 7:33 PM

After suffering a heart attack, Dan Reeves was the pitchman for Zorcor, a cholesterol-reducing drug. In other words, Dan Reeves literally pimped-out his own heart attack. Hmmmmm.
The same Dan Reeves who, while coaching John Elway, took Tommy Maddox out to dinner and was so impressed, he drafted him. Complete bust in Denver. John Elway only wanted a running back larger than Sammy Winder, but there are people who say Elway cried, acted like a baby. Personally, I think Dan Reeves acted like a fool. WITH JOHN ELWAY HEALTHY, WHY WOULD YOU SEEK OUT ANOTHER QUARTERBACK? Enter Mike Shanahan.
Jerry Jones is now a running fool, made to look moreso by not firing Wade Phillips immediately after the Eagles loss. So, Dan Reeves as special consultant to the Cowboys…so what? It means nothing. NOTHING.
And in the end, Shanahan will be the head coach in Dallas if Jerry has any sense. It’s big enough for The Mastermind and I’d bet $1 that he’d play chess with Jerry. Of course, Jerry Jones chooses to go through another year with that fatass Wade, fine with me. I hate the C-boys.

HAHA hilarious line — so true

If this happens look for Mike Vick to end up in Dallas, Reeves thinks very highly of him.

  15. spanky07 says: Jan 28, 2009 7:49 PM

Now if we can just figure out how to get rid of Jones…

  16. Bill In DC says: Jan 28, 2009 7:54 PM

So what’s the over/under on how fast Florio posts an article saying Jerry hired reeves so he can bring Micheal Vick to Dallas?

  17. Kotite says: Jan 28, 2009 7:55 PM

    Get your diffribulator ready!!!

  18. JimmySmith says: Jan 28, 2009 8:49 PM

It makes sense, Reeves last made it to the Superbowl in 1998, Dallas hasn’t been since 1995. He will show them the way and Vox will get a brain, Tony Homo will get some courage, and TO some heart.

  19. duke_ford says: Jan 28, 2009 8:49 PM

If this hire goes through, I think you can rule out any further talk of Mike Shanahan going to the Cowboys. Reeves fired Shanahan from the Broncos for forming game plans with Elway behind Reeve’s back. Shanahan’s Broncos destroyed the Falcons with Reeves as HC.

  20. brucetr says: Jan 28, 2009 9:07 PM

duke_ford is right. Although Reeves first hired Shanahan, he later fired him for the alleged reasons above. Shanahan has a long memory which allowed him to exact revenge upon Al Davis (who fired Shanahan) by defeating the Raiders more often than not as head coach of the Broncos, and then Dan Reeves by defeating the Falcons in the Super Bowl. If Reeves returns to Dallas, it is a sure bet that Shanahan won’t follow even if Wade is fired.
As a life-long Broncos fan who endured four painful Super Bowl losses (one under Red Miller and three under Reeves), I can say Reeves may be good at coaching a team to the Super Bowl but he falls short of coaching a team to actually winning the game. His 0-4 Super Bowl record proves that.

  21. aj says: Jan 28, 2009 10:19 PM

Texans owner Bob McNair brought in Reeves in a similar fashion a few years ago. A few months later, the GM and head coach were gone.

  22. mggoilers says: Jan 28, 2009 10:52 PM

I believe Reeves recommended Kubiak to McNair, and Rick Smith. Shanny had been pimping Kubiak for HC jobs for quite a while, so maybe those Reeves and Shanny are cool now.
Reeves is respectful of Shanny when I’ve heard him on Sirius.
Reeves has won a lot of games, and won a few different ways. he should be a greta resource for the Cowboys.
    1. Run the BALL!
    2. Run some more

What a surprise. I was sure Jones was going to hired the cloned Fred Flintsone that only said “yes, yes, yes”. Remember that one?

    ====================================================
Buddy, get it straight, Vick is the reason Reeves, Mora Jr and some assistant coaches lost their jobs.
Vick and his herd of apologists used these men as scapegoats and it worked for a while.
Most HC’s are smart enough not to publicly blast a fellow HC or player.

  25. Ed says: Jan 29, 2009 8:54 AM

Reeves is old skool. Cowgirl player don’t like old skool.
Especially PO. This is yet another dumb move
by JJ (aka Al Davis wannabee).

Vick is not coming to Dallas…….

“Great. Too bad the guys on the team are terrible at the sport of football.”
Those guys have managed to end up with a winning record four seasons in a row. That may not sound like much but you have to remember that the Eagirls have NEVER had more than 5 winning seasons in a row in their entire history, and are currently on a one-season winning streak.

“The same Dan Reeves who, while coaching John Elway, took Tommy Maddox out to dinner and was so impressed, he drafted him. Complete bust in Denver.”
That’s true. Who does Dan Reeves think he is, drafting a bust like that? Doesn’t he know that nobody ever does that?
“John Elway only wanted a running back larger than Sammy Winder”
Bobby Humphrey? Rod Bernstine? Leonard Russell? Those guys were bigger than Sammy Winder. Terrell Davis was not.
but there are people who say Elway cried, acted like a baby.”
He did… especially when he got drafted by the Colts.
“Personally, I think Dan Reeves acted like a fool. WITH JOHN ELWAY HEALTHY, WHY WOULD YOU SEEK OUT ANOTHER QUARTERBACK?”
I dunno, maybe because Elway was heading into his 10th season by the time Maddox was drafted and they thought they might have to have another QB at some point?

“It makes sense, Reeves last made it to the Superbowl in 1998”
1999, actually. Which means that he’s been there since the Packers were last there too, Jimmy.
