COWBOYS TIGHT END/WANNABE RAPPER FINED

Dallas Cowboys controversial tight end Martellus Bennett, A.K.A. Marty B, the amateur wannabe rapper, has been fined $22,000 for his curse-filled YouTube rap video for conduct detrimental to the team, according to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Star-Telegram beat writer Clarence Hill writes that the punishment received by Bennett, who has already posted an apology rap, is the equivalent to one game check. It’s believed that Bennett was disciplined because he wore an autographed Cowboys helmet during the video, which included using insulting terms toward African-Americans and homosexuals and also featured him drinking. During the apology video, Bennett predictably claims that the media has overreacted, noting that he didn’t shoot or kill anybody and was only having fun. What’s ironic to me about the whole episode is the Cowboys have done nothing to discipline anyone other than cutting serial troublemaking cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones. So, rapping on YouTube is where they draw the line? Can they also fine Marty B for his suspect rapping skills or boo him off the stage like Eminem in “Eight Mile”? Sure, what Bennett did was stupid, but there’s probably other more seriously dysfunctional issues involving the team that need to be addressed. Maybe the Cowboys could start a reality show/soap opera and call it, “Valley Ranch: Where Trouble is Always Brewing.” You guys have any ideas for what to call a Cowboys soap opera? We’re all ears.
