There’s an eyebrow-raising photo at Will Leitch’s new online hangout regarding the touchdown catch that delivered Super Bowl XLIII for the Steelers. The image shows that Santonio Holmes’ right foot was off the ground as he fell out of bounds after catching the ball. Here it is.

The bigger question, however, is whether that right toe had been on the ground at any point before the photo was taken -- and after Holmes had the ball in his hands. During our “exclusive” interview with Holmes on Tuesday night, he insisted that both feet were on the ground and in bounds. “The tape shows it,” Holmes said. “What more can we prove?” But does the tape show it? We’ve watched the play many times from many angles. Both feet are on the ground before the catch is made. We just can’t figure out whether the right foot came up before the completion. So, basically, there wasn’t sufficient evidence to overturn the call on the field. So, in our view, it was a close call on the field, a good call via replay. Here’s the video.
