WOOTEN SAYS CHIEFS HAVE INTERVIEWED MINORITY CANDIDATES

On Wednesday, a publication focusing on the Chiefs reported that owner Clark Hunt had said that the team has complied with the Rooney Rule by interviewing at least one minority candidate. The publication in question then acknowledged that, in reality, Hunt had said no such thing. But, as it turns out, if Hunt had said that the Chiefs had complied with the Rooney Rule, Hunt would have been speaking the truth. According to the Associated Press, Fritz Pollard Alliance chairman John Wooten said that he’s personally aware of “several minorities” who have interviewed with Chiefs G.M. Scott Pioli for the team’s head-coaching position. Wooten declined to name the minority candidates who have interviewed for the job. The Rooney Rules requires at least one minority candidate to be interviewed for each head-coaching vacancy.
