MAUALUGA LANDS WITH UBERSTINE, WITH AN ASSIST FROM PETE

Tony Pauline of SI.com tells us that former Southern Cal linebacker Rey Maualuga has decided to hire agent Gary Uberstine to handle his football contract.
Per Pauline, Maualuga was guided to Uberstine — and away from other agents — by USC coach Pete Carroll.
Carroll’s not the first college coach or program to be linked to certain agents.  But that doesn’t make the practice appropriate, especially if there are any undisclosed business relationships between coach and agent that might be influencing the recommendations.
To be clear, we’re not saying that Pete Carroll has any undisclosed business relationship with Gary Uberstine or any other agent.
Pauline also advises that Maualuga has been training at USC with Bengals linebacker Keith Rivers, who is represented by Athletes First.  Pauline does not believe that Maualuga will participate in the linebacker workouts at the Scouting Combine.
