LIONS EXTEND HANSON

The Detroit Lions have announced that a contract has been reached with kicker Jason Hanson. The 17-year veteran has signed a four-year deal. The team previously had said that, absent a new contract, the franchise tag would be used to keep Hanson off the free-agent market. So, now that Hanson is under contract, the team that went 0-16 in 2008 will instead be able to use the tag on . . . on . . . on . . . well, this year they likely won’t be using the tag.
