"I think it’s great news. People need to know how the Chargers treat their players. And their players, or soon to be ex-players, need to let people know that they can’t get away with it. If the players don’t stand up for themselves, if only to demand a minimum of respect, then management will only think they can do whatever they want with no repercussions. This kinda attitude travels across the league quickly. Hey, we all know it’s about money and you’re only as good as your last year. We all know that management acts purely out of self interest for the most part anyway. But if a player is given an option to play for a franchise that is upfront and respectful to their players versus one which has a history of reneging on their most talented players, which one do you think they’ll chose? How much is that extra 2 mill on a multiyear contract when you don’t even know if the team will stick to its agreement? Much better to play for a team where you know you fit in and they’ll stand by you. Look at the Pats. You don’t see players running away from that franchise. Guys go there, and often take less, because they know the coach is upfront and if you do your part, and are still capable of doing your part, there’s no need to change it up. That and they don’t burn out their players like the Chargers are seemingly fond of doing. If players want teams to treat them better they need to put their support in those teams that have a demonstrable history of doing that. Consider it akin to consumer pressure. Anyway, it’s obvious LT is better off somewhere else. SD’s record was built on his back, and even with all their talent they still couldn’t find a way to win. It’s time to move on. Things change quickly in this league and LT might be surprised how many options there really are. He’d look good in Denver or Tennessee too. "

"Boltschick, I’m right there with you.
Treez, REALLY? no really?? The year we let Tuner go, he was not good. With the exception of two long runs he avg around 3.5 YPC. He made his money in the playoff game v. the Colts. Sounds familiar huh!
Props to Turner for this great year in ATL, but to think after his subpar year he would be able to have this type of year is crazy. At the same time, Turner is able to produce in that offense because it’s geared for the run, the Chargers are not geared for a heavy run attack.
Turner would have been a two down back in SD at best. LT still managed to run for 1100 yards and another 10+ TD year even with no fullback and a bad toe.
The team needs to stop this nonsense and move forward with LT. The additional room ($4mil) created by the salary cap last week, should have put this issue to rest, unless they are trying to work out something more long term past this year. After this year his contract starts to get a bit crazy with the dollars.
If they need to clear room, CUT CHAMBERS! It would save 4.55 mil in ‘09. Otherwise, let’s get a FB in here and draft a RB in the 3rd or 4th that can give LT a rest in between the 40’s. "
====
I am also one of those people that thought LT should have been traded the year before and that Turner should have been kept. True, the Charger offensive line isn't the best, but Turner didn't exactly get a lot of touches either. He is one of those backs that needs a lot of touches.
You can't move into the future with LT who will be 30 years old this year. How much future could there possibly be? This entire LT/Charger situation should have been settled by now. LT has been the highest paid back for how many years? His production doesn't warrant the contract that he makes now, not that any pro athlete is worth millions of dollars.
As for cutting Chambers, who did you replace him with? VJ who might have some legal issues?
I read that people want the Chargers to trade Volek. Really? If Rivers goes down, who will be the starting QB? Don't tell me Whitehurst.
As for the crumbs comment, if LT's mom did say that, then LT just lost any leverage he had.
I have said it before and I will say it again. Sproles hasn't signed his tender yet. He isn't going to get the amount that he was tendered unless he stays for one year and leaves. The only way LT stays is if Sproles signs a long term deal first for less money than the tender.
The Chargers were stupid if they didn't see this coming. Asking LT to renegotiate his contract then tender Sproles that high wasn't going to go over well with LT.
The loss of O'Neil did not hurt this team that much. Sure, Lorenzo was a great blocker, but if he was kept, he couldn't make up for the sub-par offensive line play this past season. Besides, Lorenzo asked for his release and the Chargers granted it.
LT was the old LT for one game this last season. One game against a crappy Denver defense then he got hurt again.

Boltschick, I'm a Charger fan.. maybe the only one that wanted Turner over LT. I got banned from a few message boards for it. I think LT's days of rushing titles are behind him, if he gets one it will say more about the team than him. Notice how Sproles put the team over the top.. once the SD fans see fresh legs in there they'll forget about Tomlinson being released REAL QUICK.

Guys, there seems to be a misunderstanding.
LT is supposed to make $6.6 million this year, but unless he agrees to accept less money, the Chargers will trade or release him. He is not asking for *more* money.
Whatever the Chargers are offering, it's probably a lot less than what he's due to earn under his contract. "Crumbs" was probably not a good choice of words, but the offer is probably on the low side.
LT was hurt most of the season and has decided not to have surgery on his groin muscle that tore from the bone. So there's a lot of uncertainty about how he'll perform in the future. He looked like his old self during the last game of the season, though--it was beautiful to watch. He trains really, really hard and he will be great next year if he can stay healthy. With the Chargers' luck, they will release him and he will win the rushing title.

I think before everyone jumps on LT's mom you need to listen to these guys on 1090. I am a native of San Diego and these guys (radio personalities) have no idea what they are doing.
The two guys were pulled off the street and there ratings have been in the tank for the few months they have been on. I'm sure they chased her much more than she chased them.
Desperate people trying to raise ratings to save there jobs. It's horrible media and we shouldn't even give them the time to discuss it.
I'm sure right now the Lynch family (which owns the station) is sitting back enjoying the free pub and the additional hits on it's website.
Once again, SHAME ON 1090!
