For the Patriots, I imagine this is a why not move. Springs isn’t going to be counted on as a starting CB, and I’ll be surprised if he’s the nickel back. That said, as a depth option, why not? Add in that, he can flip over to safety and he provides them options. I think they may still pursue Leigh Bodden, as well as draft a CB in the first 3 rounds or so, to go with Hobbs, Wheatley, Wilhite.
For Springs, it’s a good fit for him. He doesn’t have the top speed anymore to match up, but he has good recognition and enough athleticism left in the tank to be an excellent fit. He goes to a team that is in a position to win now.

Springs played in 9 games last year. Excellent player when he is healthy which seems Very Rare these days. I hope they didn’t pay to much for him.

Agreed nedirect. Springs is another vet addition to the backfield with a young group Wheatley/Wilhite to compete. Florio is stirring the pot inferring that the Pats got the Eagles back for Mesante. Let me say it first, Congratulations Eagles Nation. I thought they overpaid but Asante deserved to get paid. He is missed in New England.

Is he any worse than Ellis Hobbs? I doubt it. He’ll probably begin the season starting.

Brittle shawn hasnt had a productive season since 04. Not only injury prone but poor work ethic. Belechick not in the habit of keeping bums around; he will be cut before training camp.

can’t lose a guy like samuel and not replace him. they got away with dumping ty law without to much of a problem but no samuel was and still is a major issue.

You make it sound like the Pats are sticking it to the Eagles. When in all honesty with what they have for DBs is more than fine and will get bolstered with the draft most likely. The Eagles offered Asaunte a contract and the Pats decided not to match last year end of story.

Lots of aging (cut) vets like Springs get signed every off-season and most of them get cut by the end of pre-season. Springs may have more to offer in support (playing and mentoring) of last year’s returning rookies and the likely new guys from this draft than O’Neal or Lewis Sanders. Different experiences and perspective, anyway.

A nice depth signing but at (soon to be) 34 years old what can the Pats realistically expect out of this player? I suppose he will be a steadying presence amongst the younger guys.
