GRADY MAKES SLIP ABOUT LIONS "NEW COLORS"

Recently-signed defensive tackle Grady Jackson is still getting settled in as a member of the Detroit Lions.
As part of his new gig, he’s doing some radio spots.  But it would be wise for the team to give him a head’s up about what he should and shouldn’t say.
On Monday, Jackson blurted out that he likes the team’s “new colors.”  (In Grady’s defense, he was probably distracted by thoughts of food.)
Per Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com, a Lions official declined on Tuesday morning to talk about possible uniform changes.  Kowalski says that it “appears unlikely” that the team will change its colors.
Kowalski also points out that the team has slashed prices of its “current” jerseys
We just assumed it was a byproduct of going 0-16.

They should change their colors back to what they were when they were relevant… only problem… TVs were in black & white, and nobody knows what colors they were.

the nfl should make any team that goes 0 and 16 wear pink jerseys the next season!

Damn, 20 bucks for an Ernie Sims Jersey, but he is like one of three players on that team who are really good at their position.
If I were a Linos fan I would buy.

they could be the black unis from the last few years. they were sposed to make the lions tougher…

Who really cares what the Detroit Lions do. I don’t even
    think the Fords care!

  6. Andy_Reid says: Mar 10, 2009 11:59 AM

Yeah, their colors were the problem last year. Keeping Matt Millen 5 or 6 years too long wasn’t the problem…it was the friggin’ colors.
Seriously though, it probably is a good idea to change their colors. If I was in the Lions front office I’d be changing the scenery where ever possible. Anything that could get the team to disassociate itself from everything the Lions they’ve done up to this point in franchise history would not be overreacting at this point. They need a new direction.

    Classic! Cruel, but classic.

Maybe they are becoming the Detroit Fords, Ford Blue, Ford Logo’s, maybe the AFL-CIO negotiated their logo on too. Buy a Ford, make the practice squad gimmick. Good times in Detroit! How can they make their helmets look like the Paper bags their fans wear?

They should change their colors…and their name and their home city and their players…etc.

Legit leaked info about their new uniforms is out there (on sports logo message boards… yes, they exist), if you look around.
It sounds like not much will be changing. The logo will have a bit more detail added (so it doesn’t look so much like an inkblot) and the shade of silver and blue may be changed slightly (but the colors aren’t completely changing). Black is apparently staying as an accent color.
Honestly, the average fan might not notice the change. It will probably be like when the 49ers modernized their uniform in the 1990s. Just minor tweaks.

I thought you had to get new uniform and new logo approvals a year or so in advance…

This might be what the Lions need… the Bucs began their climb from the pit of sub-mediocrity in the 90’s with a new coach, a drastic uniform change, and a new stadium.

“they could be the black unis from the last few years”
There was a report several weeks ago they were dropping those completely.

Yeah, the new unis by NFL rule can’t be used this season; they missed the November deadline. I’m willing to bet that Mr. Jackson doesn’t have the eye of Renoir when it comes to color–my assumption is that the tweaks to the unis make the colors “pop” differently. I know the last time they made changes, I had to physically hold a new one up against an old one to prove to some folks that the blue hadn’t changed . . .
As far as the logo, I’m a fan of Bubbles (as we Lions fans call him), but I agree that a little detail is needed to bring out the fact that it’s a silhouette of a leaping lion and not a bemaned, four-legged Cyclops. I have a hat that adds layers of depth to the logo with stitching; it looks 100 times better and cleaner. Just like the Vikings did with their helmets, the little tweaks made it look like horns sticking out of the helmet instead of, like, hot-glued-on pigeon wings.
    Peace

    ShimSham–
You’re right, the blacks are gone forever. They’ll use the 40s throwbacks as their alternate color again this year, as they did last year, and then the new uniforms will come out–probably with a new 3rd color. Or, maybe they just keep the throwbacks.
    Peace

I love it Bubbles needs to go. I like this old Logo from the 60s http://www.sportslogos.net/images/logos/7/170/full/472.gif

  22. flyeaglesfly1933 says: Mar 10, 2009 3:05 PM

They need to make the new team logo Matt Millen’s head with a bullseye on his forehead! That should some up the franchise!

  23. meefer says: Mar 10, 2009 4:42 PM

Just put a Berry Sanders jersey on everyone – it’ll be fine.

Only thing good about that pathetic organization was the honolulu blue and silver.
So obviously they had to change that.
