CARDINALS DENY THAT BOLDIN IS ON THE BLOCK

In response to our report that the Arizona Cardinals are shopping receiver Anquan Boldin, Cards G.M. Rod Graves tells Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic that the Cardinals’ position on Boldin has not changed.
So, in other words, Graves says that the Cardinals aren’t shopping Boldin.
That said, our source tells us that the Cardinals are “definitely” shopping Boldin.
And here’s the reality that applies when a team is shopping a player.  Word tends to get out, because the folks to whom the player is shopped are under no obligation to keep it a secret.
So, basically, that’s a polite way of saying that we think Graves isn’t telling Somers the truth.

Anquan, you have my sympathies dude. Fingers crossed for ya that you get what’s fair, given your contributions…which are substantial.
It’s like seeing a wolf with its leg caught in a bear trap.

  5. The King says: Mar 12, 2009 7:47 PM

Yea, NDCowboysfan.. If Philly or the NY Giants get Boldin, your team is in trouble for a few years.

  6. clangille says: Mar 12, 2009 7:48 PM

Oh darn! So you mean to tell me that the Eagles won’t even get a chance to make a half-hearted, irrelevant, underwhelming, low-ball offer to get him?

Mike,,I think it depends on how good the source is ?
Graves didn’t have to say anything ?
why would he … just ignore it, as a rumor.
Why would you think Graves isn’t being truthful ?

They’re not coughing the money that Boldin deserves. Trade for a 1st and a 3rd. I’m sure someone will give that up.

  13. Phnxsports says: Mar 12, 2009 8:39 PM

Since it is pretty obvious that Kent Sommers is a frequent visitor to PFT I just want to say Hi Kent! How’s it going? You get all your news via PFT also?

  14. azcardinalsfan1 says: Mar 12, 2009 8:48 PM

Sounds like your “source” is codename for “I’m making things up again.”

  15. Vet735 says: Mar 12, 2009 8:53 PM

If this was the only place reporting it, I would be incredulous. (For those at K and A that means I don’t believe it). But the rumors are alive and well in Philly so Graves is likely full of it.

  16. cap2255 says: Mar 12, 2009 8:53 PM

Well at least you know this site can handle the traffic now. All the Eagles’ fans chimming in on the Anquan Boldin rumor would have, as Emmitt Smith would say, “blowed up the site” before.

  17. BoneCrusher says: Mar 12, 2009 9:00 PM

Q the Giants need you and you would be the TRUE #1 receiver

  18. mad555 says: Mar 12, 2009 9:03 PM

Well, I have to say Florio, you did have the inside info about the Cards assistents getting ripped off buy the Cards after they left…
I guess this still gives hope for your asinine proposal of trading Mcnabb for Boldin and a 2nd.

“Makes you wonder what type of people reads this site…. ”
I asked the question because it is coming down to a “he said, she said” thing… if he gives us some source bona fides, it makes it a lot easier to put credence in said source. We have the Cards GM on one side… and blankman on the other. I’ll side with the GM unless we can get some bona fides… seeeeee

    Mike,
Why is it only you and this “deepthroat”, the only ones on planet earth, reporting this.
As you said,,,other are under no obligation to “keep this under their hat”. Every sports reporter, from Fla to NY would be all over this story like Lindsay Lohan on a small baggie of powder.

Easy to say but please point out all of the times this has happened? This was not the case with Randy Moss last year, right? Randy was using the Eagles to drum up the price. This was not the case with Dawkins – if that is where you are going. Dawkins was an intelligent decision about money. It was not the case with Asante Samuel was it? That was a genius move considering Lito is a b1tch and is always out with a sprained cervix. So, where did this happen? Tony Gonzolez? He was never on the block. There have been some times – like Javon Walker.
I think that the Eagles overvalue their draft picks since they cut a number of their high picks yearly anyway… But the fact is, when the Eagles want someone and go after them, they usually get them. Javon Walker, Runyan, Samuel.

    A. Cromartie for A. Boldin + 2nd

  25. FlyEaglesFly85 says: Mar 12, 2009 10:16 PM

I would love to see Boldin come to Philly. The Eagles have the cap space, so i don’t see why they wouldn’t try. Even if they don’t get Boldin you would think they would try to get someone else….like Holt or something. They already let Housh slip through there fingers.

Florio has been breaking news since the inception of this site. If he didn’t have so many sources and be so knowledgeable, I would go to ESPN or NFL’s websites. I don’t care what anyone heard. Florio’s the man and anything he writes (except about Terry Bradshaw) is something to be taken in consideration in the least bit.

Shoeman, Paul Needell of the Newark Star ledger is also reporting it:
    http://tinyurl.com/c3nxeu
Article also says an “executive with knowledge of the Giants’ thinking “doesn’t think” the Giants will be in the mix for Boldin”.
Smush Rodriguez, Javon Walker has never played for the Eagles. Did you mean TO?

  28. glackattak says: Mar 12, 2009 10:41 PM

hey clangille….can u please refresh me what year Javon Walker played for the Eagles??….i mustve been in a coma and not known about it that season.
and i quote you “But the fact is, when the Eagles want someone and go after them, they usually get them. Javon Walker, Runyan, Samuel. “

  29. Philly_the_Kid says: Mar 12, 2009 10:46 PM

Adam Kaplan (sp?) was on Eagles.com a couple days ago and said that the Cardinlas were NOT shoppping Boldin, that they want to keep him. BUT — that if a deal were to happen it would happen before the draft and the Eagles had more ammo to work with than any other team who would likely be interested. He said 40%-50% chance at best of Boldin being moved. Remember last year, Chad Johnson wanted to leave but was under contract and Birds fans were all nuts for that deal. The Birds have a philosophy and they rarely leave that, they rarely overpay in picks or cash for one player. Especially if that player is a WR. Look at the big FA or Trades since Lurie Banner — Troy Vincent, Ricky Watters, Steve Everitt, Hugh Dougalss, Jevon Kearse, Jon Runyan, Asante Samuel … there are only a few and they tend to be key positions like Oline/Dline or Corner. Ricky Watters in Lurie’s first year as owner is the only big time FA offensive skill player and SF couldn’t match. TO was a fluke situation that fell in the Birds (temporary) favor.

I hope Manginni confuses him for a Jet and trades for him. Maybe he can teach Braylon to catch….

  31. Brewster says: Mar 13, 2009 12:31 AM

I can’t believe there are so many people who visit this site that challenge Florio’s sources. How can you be so dumb as to expect him to name them? So he misses ocassionally, but on a percentage basis he’s mostly correct and FIRST.
Believing a trade rumor denial from an executive from the Bidwell organization is like believing Josh McDaniels that other teams instigated the trade talks for Jay Cutler.
Boldin is an excellent receiver, a hard worker and a class act, the Cardinals don’t deserve to keep him and unfortuanely they aren’t even trying.

  32. Banterstein says: Mar 13, 2009 1:20 AM

Cleveland from Family Guy is the worst GM in the history of professional sports. He’s an embarrasment to the Cardinal fan base.

  33. deymond says: Mar 13, 2009 1:28 AM

Word gets out when a team is shopping a player. That is your way of saying that the rumor is true? What sort of logic is that? What kind of a…oh, that’s right. A West Virginian lawyer.

Q isn’t going anywhere….Warner just signed his deal and one neg. point was that Q stays.
What’s with all this hype of Q being traded…it’s not going to happen.
    LET IT GO
Philly – He will be available NEXT YEAR. This year is not going to happen.

  36. kssj4 says: Mar 13, 2009 1:34 PM

Why are people so cynical towards the Iggles? All of this “Eagles won’t even get a chance to make a half-hearted, irrelevant, underwhelming, low-ball offer” is rather silly and ignorant. All of this considering the Eagles most definitely spend money when THEY think the player is worth it. Just because we fans think with our hearts when it comes to football similarly to the way we think with our penises when it comes to women doesn’t mean we are in the right.
They brought in Runyan and gave him a massive contract for that time and had him here for 10 years. The Eagles made Kearse the highest paid defensive player in NFL history. They went out and got T.O. when he was available. The Eagles even went and offered Moss a contract that was better than the one the Pats gave him, but he chose to stay where he was.
It’s so tiring hearing all of you whining about every single move. No one learns anything from the Phillies and Charlie Manuel situation. If that front office listened to most of you then half the team would have been traded and Manuel would have been fired a long time ago.

It’s the NFL Florio – everybody’s on the block for the right price.
