Former Raiders coach Lane Kiffin went first, answering seven hours of questions on Monday. Next came Raiders owner Al Davis, deposed on Tuesday. And so the grievance filed by Kiffin for his unpaid Raiders salary is finally moving forward. But no one is talking. According to Nancy Gay of the San Francisco Chronicle, the league office has imposed a gag order on the parties, presumably in the wake of Friday’s media assault by the Raiders, which included the delivery via e-mail of a rambling letter the team sent to the University of Tennessee on January 22, 2009. Kiffin attended Tuesday’s session, and Gay reports that Davis was “surprised” by his former employee’s presence. Frankly, we doubt that he really was. Davis has been around the litigation block enough times to know that the named parties have the right to attend all depositions -- and it makes plenty of sense to exercise that ability when the case has a strong “he said/she said” quality.
