DRIVER: "T.O. IS A SELFISH LITTLE BRAT"

In as nice a tone as possible, Green Bay Packers veteran wide receiver Donald Driver made it abundantly clear that he has no intentions of ever playing on the same football team as combustible Buffalo Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens.
During a recent Packers fan appearance immortalized on YouTube, Driver said, “T.O. is a nice guy, if you get to know him, a nice, down-to-earth guy.  Could I ever play with T.O.?  No.  We have talked about if we could ever play with each other.  He wants the ball. I guess you could say he’s selfish.  He’s a selfish little brat, but he’s a good guy in person.”
Driver contrasted his low-key approach to the game to Owens, noting how he handled not getting the ball as much during a stretch last season as quarterback Aaron Rodgers repeatedly targeted wideout Greg Jennings.
“It’s all good, you deal with it,” Driver said.  “I don’t have to prove myself anymore.  We had a great connection, one of the best connections in Packers history, me and Brett [Favre].  Now, [Rodgers] and Greg have that connection.
“It worked for them.  As the season went on, I had to get involved in the offense and things started working out.  You just move forward.  I love to play the game.  The fans make me excited.”
Jennings caught 80 passes for 1,292 yards and nine touchdowns last season. Driver finished with 74 receptions for 1,012 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Wow! Donald is the only Driver I know of, but I still didn’t think it could have been him when I read the headline.
Talk about a true professional. Driver is the anti-TO. He has quietly gone about his business his whole career and has been one of the most under-rated WRs in the game in the last five years, mostly because he isn’t a selfish flashy primadonna. Jennings has come on as the go-to receiver the last year but you don’t hear Driver whining about not getting as many looks in the red-zone or whatnot.
Though Owens has had more TDs, Driver has averaged more receptions and yards than TO over the past five years. Not bad for a 7th round pick.

glad someone came out and said it

This headline does not accurately reflect the substance of the quote.

Driver has class and tact, and always has. T.O. has always pretty much reeked of vinegar and water (you do the math.)

Are all fan fests this great? Seemed honest and not propoganda for the team.

Come on Dallas fans – after a few years of hearing ‘I told you so’, you can chime in with the rest of us!

  7. Dan Dizzle says: Mar 22, 2009 4:07 PM

Donald who? You’re not getting the ball because Rodgers has a connection with Jennings, it’s because Greg Jennings is better than you!

  8. Restore_the_roar says: Mar 22, 2009 4:09 PM

uhh … maybe that is why Driver is no where near the WR that T.O. is.

Incredible attempt at a non-story by Florio. I know Florio didn’t actually write this, but wow.

  10. ShimSham says: Mar 22, 2009 4:20 PM

I have such a man-crush on Donald. Not even funny. Of any Packer over the past 10 years, I’d be most upset to see him ever play for another team.

  11. VOR says: Mar 22, 2009 4:35 PM

Who the frack cares what Donald Driver thinks? Except for Packers fans?

  12. ViKing says: Mar 22, 2009 4:43 PM

Hmmmmm I’d be willing to bet Driver isn’t half as good as T.O. and he can only dream of playing to his calibre.

  13. Fan_of_Football says: Mar 22, 2009 4:48 PM

It’s a shame that Ted Thompson has been trying to force Driver out for a couple years now. Driver is a class act and provides one of the last bits of veteran leadership on this team that TT has tried so hard to get rid of just because they weren’t his guys.

  14. The Last Emperor says: Mar 22, 2009 4:55 PM

Driver is the most underrated WR in the league.

  15. myasylum says: Mar 22, 2009 5:05 PM

    LOL! I think that’s cool! I think?
Driver is a good player, and a good guy. Hopefully he wont get is ripped to much for this.

  16. NightTrainWooWoo says: Mar 22, 2009 5:16 PM

DD is still one of the best receivers in football, plus he’s a stand up guy that plays with his mouth closed. It’s no wonder he wouldn’t wanna play with TO.

  17. misterj says: Mar 22, 2009 5:23 PM

No seriously this is a terrible non-story. It’s obvious he was just joking around with the guys. Jesus Christ.

  19. 319hike says: Mar 22, 2009 5:33 PM

Water is wet, the sky is blue and TO is a selfish little brat. Next up, reports of which side Driver’s takes, is it less filling or does it taste great.

  20. PackNcheese says: Mar 22, 2009 6:23 PM

Driver may not have as many TD’s, but at least he doesn’t run his mouth and destroy every team he is. Driver brings tremendous class and has always gone out and done his job. I’m willing to bet T.O. wouldn’t dare go over the middle of the field as much as Donald Driver has in his career.

  21. BonaFide Sports Expert Robert Littal says: Mar 22, 2009 6:29 PM

I am going to be honest that was an ESPN style headline that had nothing to do with what Driver said.
I know you didn’t post this Mike, but please don’t turn into ESPN. The majority of that quote is positive about Terrell Owens and in regards to him being selfish it talks about him wanting the ball like 98% of other Wide Receivers in the league.
I am a little disappointed in PFT for this one.

  22. Sterling says: Mar 22, 2009 6:43 PM

Unlike TO, Driver never drops a ball. Put it within arm’s length, he’s money. You go, D2.

For anyone that doesn’t read the Green Bay or Milwaukee newspapers’ websites, “Fan of Football” spends his entire day sitting in his mom’s basement posting anti-Thompson garbage all day. This loser roots against the Packers to win just so his garbage sounds justified. TT hasn’t done a THING to give the impression that he doesn’t want Driver on the team. Let’s hear some facts “Fan”.

“uhh … maybe that is why Driver is no where near the WR that T.O. is. ”
Over the past five years Driver has more receptions, yards, and 1st downs than Owens. While Owens does have more TDs, he also has more dropped passes and locker rooms destroyed (2-0) than Driver.
What’s the over/under on games before Owens rips Trent Edwards? Let’s say its eight, and I’m taking the under.

Wow, come on; this was so taken out of context. He was playing around whit T.O. Watch here and you judge it:

I’d love to know how you come to this bold and unfair conclusion. How has Ted tried to do anything to get rid of Driver?

  29. Bob_Nelson says: Mar 22, 2009 8:45 PM

Great WR’s that can keep their mouth shut and be a great teammate like Marvin Harrison, Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, and others should be better appreciated by the media than a doing loud mouthed punk disrupter like former Jet La vernobnoxious Coles and former Raider Randy Moss, and others.

  30. renaissancemanrt says: Mar 22, 2009 8:56 PM

Donald Driver has been one of the most consistent wide-receivers in the game for the past 7 years.
Since 2002, he’s averaged 1,067 yards and 5.7 touchdowns per season. He’s not a TRUE #1 receiver, but he’s a team player, blocks, is THE best yards-after-the-catch guy in the league… When I say yards after the catch, I don’t mean catching a deep pass at the 30 and running it in for a score, I mean catching a 3 yard pass and turning it into a 15 yard gain every time. Favre wouldn’t have such a good completion percentage or YPA if it wasn’t for #80 to throw to.

I love the fact that Packer fans are so passionate that they recognize a guy;s name from another site and rip him a new one here. Priceless.
    Carry on boys, carry on.
And you all make fun of what your jealous of, that’s why Pack fans get blasted on PFT.
Farve is still great, no matter what he did. And the Pack is still God’s team. Even though God doesn’t exist. Screw you Warner.
    Ha!

Fan of Football, You must be mentally challenged or just plain
stupid! Yeah! TT is really trying his hardest to run Driver out
of town. Guess giving him the big new contract ext. wasn’t a big
enough of a hint. Maybe next time he could give e’m a few bars of
gold & a new sports car. That would show how much he wants him off
of the packers. Guess he’s been trying to get rid of Kampmen & Harris
too!I haven’t agreed with all TT’s moves but let’s give credit where
it’s due. Go back to your Mom’s basement, Fan. I hear her calling.
Your fishstick tv dinner is getting cold!

Yeah, that is funny. I’ve never heard of an athlete making a prediction or a guarantee about a game, and then end up being wrong about it. Driver must be the first to ever do that. /sarcasm
