The next three Super Bowls are set; the 2010 game will be in Miami (we’ll be there, ’68 VW bus permitting). The 2011 edition will be in Dallas (we’ll be there, if I don’t croak from the number of Xanax I take in order to get on a plane). And the 2012 edition will be in Indianpolis (we’ll be there, if someone doesn’t accidentally break my neck when throwing me against a wall).
In 2013, the Super Bowl will return to the Superdome — if a forthcoming proposal from the folks in New Orleans is successful.
According to Nakia Hogan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the paperwork will be submitted Friday.
“After many months of detailed work, the Sports Foundation, on behalf of the New Orleans Saints, is extremely excited to be turning in our first draft of New Orleans’ bid for the 2013 Super Bowl, ” said Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation president and CEO Jay Cicero. “It’s a true team effort, led by the Saints and the Sports Foundation. The city of New Orleans, the state of Louisiana, the Superdome, the Morial Convention Center and the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau all have been vital to making this happen.”
The other candidates are Phoenix and Miami.
As Hogan points out, the absence of a long-term lease between the Saints and the Superdome could scuttle the possibility.
Another potential glitch is the proximity of the Super Bowl (February 2) to Mardi Gras (February 12). This issue becomes even more problematic if the NFL expands the schedule to 17 or 18 games and continues (as expected) to avoid Labor Day as the first weekend of the regular season.
This could push the Super Bowl to February 9 or 16, exacerbating the conflict between Super Sunday and Fat Tuesday.
Then again, maybe the NFL can talk to the Vatican about adjusting Lent.

Bring the super bowl back to the best super bowl city ever.
I feel bad about the Katrina damage…I really do.
But that said…..New Orleans is a murderer filled, rat infested stink hole.
And that was before Katrina !!!
Its like Camden NJ…but with shrimp
The State of Louisiana taxpayers subsidise Saints owner Tom Benson almost $18 million dollars a year. He brokered the deal under the threat of moving the team. I don’t suppose the people of New Orleans should be penalized for it by not getting a Superbowl. But Bneson should be ashamed of taking that taxpayer money.
Well Katrina really backfired…

Hell, maybe the NFL can talk the Vatican into being a sponsor. They can put a cross and the Vatican logo on the jerseys.
The Superdome is so ugly on the inside, I really hate watching games played there.
What would happen if there is a work stoppage in 2012? Would Indy lose the SuperBowl or is there a plan in place for them to get it the following year?
Why a plane for Dallas but the VW for Miami? Dallas is only 100 miles further from northern WV…
They really need to rename this the Miami Bowl as many times as Miami is putting in bids and getting the d*mn game. I say move it to Chicago. Nothing decides a championship game more than two warm weather teams playing in -10 degree weather. You gotta earn it! You can’t be down in Florida or these other warm places or domes and be relaxed you gotta freeze you @ss off as your getting it knocked off.
I think the city of New Orleans should bring the Pope to the city and we can have the the Superbowl on Fat Tuesday. It might be like the Tampa Bay v. Oakland superbowl a few years back, I didn’t remember who won the next morning but I had a pretty good idea much fun was had.
“New Orleans is a murderer filled, rat infested stink hole.”
i think you’re talking about your mom’s dirty snatch.
maybe if you had ever really spent time here in new orleans, you wouldn’t be so goddamn ignorant. or maybe you still would be–but regardless i’d appreciate your refraining from making offensive comments about my city. especially since if they’re driven by close-minded, racist beliefs.
Tacobill have you every been to New Orleans or are you like most of the idoits on this site that lets tv and media affect their views on things? Dont talk shit about the city I was born and raised in because you know nothing about it. So hide behind your computer and let Fox news teach you about the world.

Keep reading that TacoBill. Someday it will rub off on you as much as the media has.
Let New Orleans have the Super Bowl! It will not interfere with Mardi Gras at all. Most of the party goers will not even realize the Super Bowl is even going on!
As someone who has been to New Orleans, and was born in Camden, NJ. I’d have to say that this is the most assinine comparison I have ever heard. First off geography wise, NO is 180 square miles of land. Camden NJ is 8.8. Big ass difference, don’t ya think? Although i was a tourist and it was pre Katrina, the thought of comparing it to Camden is laughable..Every major city (and Camden isn’t one of them) has a “hood” and some more than one, it’s not like the NFL is gonna schedule events surrounding the Super Bowl in the worst possible environment. I found the people in NO to be hospitable, and i had a great time…..You would NOT catch me dead in Camden….You live in Camden, you die in Camden, no one visits Camden..Was this a lame ass attempt at humor?…Cause it failed…What a joke
If you dont deal drugs, you will not be killed in New Orleans. Sure there are a few murders that dont fit this profile, but what city doesn’t have them. New Orleans is safe and the city could handle Mardi Gras and the Super Bowl, as long as it was NOT the weekend before Fat Tuesday. It could be two weekends before Mardi Gras as the city has already done this with a previous Super Bowl or it could be the weekend after Mardi Gras. There is no city that is more Super Bowl friendly than New Orleans. The stadium and hotels are all within walking distance and New Orleans has the French Quarter, which is also within walking distance….oh and the food and restaurants are all within walking distance. Nuff said.
Hey TacoBill – like most of your pics of the day, your comments aren’t funny either. If New Orleans was half as bad as you describe it, they wouldn’t have hosted the Super Bowl nine times (along with several NCAA Final Fours, the BCS Sugar Bowl, the BCS Championship, and the NBA All-Star Game to name a few). As for comments about the Superdome, the stadium is going through a series of multimillion dollar upgrades and renovations that will bring it up to par with some of the newer stadiums in the league, so it won’t be so “ugly on the inside”. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go work on the Pensky file.
