"No Precise Date Set Yet" For Schedule Release

In response to Monday’s out-of-the-blue release of the NFL’s preseason schedule, we’ve been flooded with questions about the expected release of the real thing — the regular-season slate of games.
And so we asked NFL spokesman Greg Aiello about it.
Aiello said by e-mail that the schedule most likely will be released in the first half of April.
“Same as always,” Aiello said.
But Aiello added that there is “no precise date set yet.”
Our semi-educated guess is that it will come next Tuesday or Wednesday, April 7 or 8.
Stay tuned.
UPDATE:  As one source points out, it’s unlikely that the schedule will be released next week, since it coincides with the opening week of baseball and the run-up to the Masters.  Our revised guess is Tuesday, April 14.

Can you give a reason why you specifically guessed April 7 or April 8? We fans wanna be in the know!

    @brian_21 . . . .
    1. it’s usually not on a monday.
    2. april 9 and 10 are likely out because it is Holy Thursday and Good Friday, respectively.
    it’s mainly a hunch.

one of my favorite days of the year. start looking for nfln and espn specials on those days in your tv listings. last year, they both had afternoon shows, which tells us we’re not the only ones who sweat this stuff.

The schedule used to come out the day after the NCAA Final game or the Tuesday afternoon. As Florio says, it could be out Tuesday afternoon the 7th. However, they have been late the last few years, so a more likely date would be April 14. 😉 NFL also doesn’t want to conflict with Easter and The Masters, so they will find a slow time probably a few days after Easter and The Masters.

For whatever it’s worth…the schedule was released April 15th last year. It usually seems to fall during that week. As such, my best guess is the 14th.

FYI, for those who are curious, this is when the schedule was released in recent history:
    2006 – April 6th
    2007 – April 11th
    2008 – April 15th
So while April 7th or 8th is possible, I stand by my prediction of April 14th.

So when does the schedule come out?

This is why I love the current scheduling format – I know all the opponents by January. I don’t care about the specific dates because game tix cost too much.
