Rumors Fly Of Redskins' Efforts To Move Campbell

Amid reports that the Washington Redskins are actively pursuing a trade for Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, we’ve caught wind of rumors that the Redskins are trying to trade current starter Jason Campbell.
We need to emphasize that this is a rumor, and we’re currently trying to nail down whether or not it’s an accurate rumor.
Campbell is under contract through 2009.  Talk of signing him to a new contract subsided significantly after his strong start to the 2008 season faded into something less than that.

    this is whack

When will Snyder ever learn? They moved up to get Campbell, i.e. wasted draft picks. Now they’ll just throw away more draft picks to get Cutler.

Mike, I saw you on the NFLN and couldn’t believe what a terrible television personality you are. That said, I really enjoy your site…much better than ESPN or SI.
    Also: JAY CUTLER!

  4. G-man says: Apr 1, 2009 10:36 PM

I think it’s quite clear that Cutler ends up in Washington.
Campbell and their 1st for Cutler.

  5. akhhorus says: Apr 1, 2009 10:36 PM

The Wash Post reported this already

  6. Blahman64 says: Apr 1, 2009 10:37 PM

I think its due in part because Jason Campbell doesn’t thrive in the West Coast offense. He needs a bigger option to make bigger plays.

Floriooooooo! Saw you on NFL Network. Nice work, but just because you have great hair and speak authoritatively, doesn’t mean you know sheeeeat! You are pulling off the crime of the century by actually taking internet rumor mongering and parlaying that onto TV. And then I hit this site and you have a follow up already here from earlier. I love it! Campbell on the block, Zorn out the door! If this actually happens or is verified by someone else or have been discussed, then you become unquestionable.

As much as I would like someone else starting instead of campbell I don’t believe this is the way to go. Id rather we just bite the bullet and give him a few weeks and unless he plays spectacular go ahead and give brennan the reigns. Contrary to popular belief the skins do have good chemistry but This is something that could really hurt us.

  9. dlr4skins says: Apr 1, 2009 10:57 PM

I heard a rumor once that Terry Bradshaw was dead…..?

  10. replica says: Apr 1, 2009 10:59 PM

the deadskins will never win until they learn to draft good players. period.

  11. loki0284 says: Apr 1, 2009 11:02 PM

Being a eagle fan, I am glad to hear this. Sounds Ridiculous but here is why. Everytime the redskins do something like this it backfires in their face. Don’t believe me, look it up. History has an odd way of consistently repeating itself. The only big moves that have worked out has so far been london fletcher and clinton portis. Every other player that is worth a damn was drafted not acquire.
*On a business side, I think the best idea would be to trade him detroit. You could get the first pick overall and get a third and maybe even a player like Ernie Sims. The broncos could get Aaron Curry and maybe mark sanchez or matt stafford. I would not be shocked if either one of those guys drop down. The niners Def. take one of them but there should still be one left.

This really sucks Dan Snyder should be given a pink belly

  13. Bill In DC says: Apr 1, 2009 11:22 PM

According to Rototimes the Deadskins offered Campbell to an ‘unnamed’ team for a 2nd rd pick.
This is truly insane unless they think they will get Cutler for a song. They may be thinking the Broncos will let Cutler go for a 2nd like the Pats did for Cassel. I seriously doubt that this will happen. I don’t see the Broncos even taking Campbell and the Deadskins #1. My guess is they get a good deal more from the Bucs or Minnesota.
Should be quite the bidding war for Cutler.

  14. Bill In DC says: Apr 1, 2009 11:25 PM

    Outsyder,
Don’t for get the brilliance of giving up a 2nd rd pick for Jason Taylor and then cutting him (and Taylor may end up back in Miami) so they effectively just gave the Dolphins their 2nd rd pick for nothing.
The Redskins don’t need Jay Cutler, they need a couple of Offensive tackles, a Guard, a defensive end, 2 LBs, 2 CBs, and a RB.
If Culter goes to Washington he’s going to get killed behind that creaky line they have

  15. iletmyselfin says: Apr 1, 2009 11:31 PM

The first overall pick, the first pick the third AND Ernie Sims? Are you kidding me?

  16. Terrell Blowens says: Apr 1, 2009 11:32 PM

    @lokio284
completely agree. i cant think of enough free agent/trade busts in washington. as an eagles fan i can only hope the skins get this lousy whiny b*tch who cries when his feelings get hurt. if McNabb had Brandon Marshall he could put up great numbers. Despite having lots of weapons in the passing game, cutler threw the second most picks last year to the almighty brett favre. just think of all the picks he can throw when he has to work with average receivers in washington! Pick 6 to asante (but only if asante learns to catch easy interceptions lol). cutler sucks. snyder doesn’t realize he is totally destroying the semi-solid foundation he had by getting rid of campbell

am i the only one who think Snyder is just a little crazier than Al Davis?

Lokio, how are the broncs gonna get Curry and either Sanchez or Stafford? Proofread what you write…
You think Sanchez or Stafford slips to the third round?? This makes zero sense….

  19. Hosstyle in Tampa says: Apr 2, 2009 12:00 AM

…and when the circle-jerk was complete, they all figured out how to disappoint their fan base again this year…
seriously, if the skins beat us out for a qb again this offseason, I’m gonna lose my sh&t. If Cutler becomes a skin, I hope Haynesworth eats him after he mistakenly hears coaches and teammates call him a “diuretic”….

He is saying he thinks one of the two quarterbacks could drop down to Denvers 1st round choice. I don’t agree with him but you seem pretty dense.

  21. WithoutDoubt27 says: Apr 2, 2009 1:47 AM

Hosstyle, the Broncs also have their own first round pick. Think before you write.
Eagles fans? Talking about the Redskins? Really? The bigger joke we are in Washington the easier it is to kick your ass a couple times a year. You act like we’re the big joke, how come we’re the only NFC East team you can’t beat. Go watch the Phillies.

Win a superbowl….who is really the choke, I mean joke….Eagles fans always run their piehole and thats fine but where is the Super Bowl trophy?
Let me know when you find it. Eagles fans have nothing to crow about wit Andy Reid and all his criminal kids….what and organiization to aspire to…

  23. smiley says: Apr 2, 2009 7:50 AM

Haaa…the Iggle fans are talking about average receivers!!! The extent of an Iggles fans’ vocabulary “if, if, if”. It’s not going to happen, stop watching football!! By the way, we won’t get Cutler….another team will offer too much. Hail slackers!

  24. Bill In DC says: Apr 2, 2009 7:53 AM

    Withoutdoubt,
Yeah, that’s true! I remember that horrible beating you gave the Eagles in the playoffs last season…. oh wait, that’s right, you didn’t make the playoffs last season and the Eagles did. My bad.

    WithoutDoubt27,
Check the resume b!tch we beat the skins last season, then beat the cowboys and put them out of playoff picture, and then beat the giants in giants stadium in the playoffs. Now who cant we beat in the NFC East?. Maybe daniel snyder can buy the deadkins some heart and some chemistry!!!

  27. evil says: Apr 2, 2009 9:45 AM

Ernie Sims ? Yeah I’m sure Denver is all about Ernie Sims because he will be such a great fit in the 3-4 D they are going to employ. Please think before you throw out ideas that make ZERO sense.

The Redskins beat the Eagles twice. Please check your facts before spewing your IQ everywhere.
Another fact, Eagles are the only NFC East team with an empty Super Bowl trophy case. Go watch the Phillies or something.
