Raiders Announce Garcia Signing

The Oakland Raiders have announced the arrival of quarterback Jeff Garcia in their usual way — by posting an update to their online transactions page, with no press release or announcement.
Per the transactions page (and thanks to Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange for pointing it out to us), the Raiders also have signed tackle Marcus Johnson, who spent four years with the Vikings after being drafted in the second round of the 2005 draft.
Johnson will wear No. 78 in Oakland; a number has not yet been assigned to Garcia, who most recently wore the digit that coincides with the name of George Costanza’s unborn child.
In Oakland, Bruce Gradkowski already is paying homage to Mickey Mantle.

  1. I would prefer if Great Grandmother Al announce all transactions via Powerpoint presentation, and sprinkle in as many “professional liar” blasts as possible.

  2. Proven Starter .. Proven Pro Bowler .. Gotta give JR Pimp Machine
some lessons in being a QB.

  3. How come Chris Johnson isnt on the transaction page? Lets go Raiders! And now let the haters begin.

  4. “a number has not yet been assigned to Garcia, who most recently wore the digit that coincides with the name of George Costanza’s unborn child.”
Yes, and Johnson will wear number 78 a number that will coincide with the number of Travis Henry’s next child…

  5. Trivia: Gradkowski gave up his number 7 to Garcia when Jeff signed with the Bucs. Grads took #5.
I’d say that I’m curious if Bruce will give the number up again, but now that Garcia has signed, I doubt Bruce even makes the team.

  6. And again… the Raiders are quietly putting together a solid off season. With all of the signings so far… you can see we are either drafting a DT or WR. Not likely going for a LT.

Careful using some of those words in the same sentence.
    – curious
    – give up
    – but
    – Garcia

  8. Much better offseason for the Raiders this year. Making smart moves IMO. Locked up their probowlers and picked up Garcia for the price of a happy meal I’m sure.

Are you insane? This is the team the spent all its money last year on DeAngelo Hall, Gibril Wilson, Javon Walker and Kwame Harris.

  10. “I wish they would have signed Rob Johnson. I think he is still available. ” He has already been on the team.

  11. The Raiders missed out on the JP Lsman sweepstakes????? What are they thinking. Can you say ‘ Quarterbck of the Future’? Losman belongs in a black hole, a deep dark hole… I mean “The Black Hole”…yeah thats it.

  12. I love the move.
Not because Garcia will have a Warner-like resurgence, but because I feel that a vet with a work ethic (though an active yap…) is necessary to help teach the young fella how to do the little things and be a pro.

  13. Alot of grreat replys to this “post”, but this one was the best.

    Classic! Well done gentlemen!

  14. Good News Kennels, the free-agent clusterplax happened last season. A year has passed. Please try to keep up. Oakland is at least worthy of relevant ridicule.

  15. Jeff Garcia can DUST Gradkowski and JaMarcus Russell even if you blindfolded him! This is the BEST signing in quite some time.

  16. The Cryptkeeper gets a greybeard. A match made in heaven.
Now if they can get some outcast thugs like Ochostinko, they might win 3 games next season.

  17. Why would the Raiders do ANYTHING remotely resembling a favor for the media? Find your own updates. you are lucky they changed the website. The mediots bash all day and then get all surprised when they get locked out.
