New Deal For Jones-Drew

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew wanted a new contract. And he’s getting one. According to Michael C. Wright of the Florida Times-Union, Jones-Drew has agreed to terms on a long-term extension with the team. Per Wright, the deal is believed to pay Jones-Drew in the range of $8 million per year, with $20 million guaranteed. Not bad for a guy who never has been a featured back -- and who has started only four games in his three-year career. The contract is expected to be announced later today at a press conference. Last month, Jones-Drew told Dan Patrick that the former UCLA tailback regards himself as the top running back in the game, and that he believes he should be paid accordingly. One thing is clear -- of the two L.A.-area college tailbacks who entered the league in 2006, the one that everyone overlooked has outshone the one whom everyone thought would be the next Gale Sayers.
