Sprint Phone Takes A Trip

We’ve been back nearly long enough from the Philly-New York trip for the whole thing to start feeling like a vague dream.

A vague dream that involved periodic whiffs of sewage and vomit. (It happened primarily when I was in the bathroom of our “suite” at the Motel 6.)

[Editor’s note: We didn’t stay at the Motel 6, and as far as we know none of the bathrooms at any Motel 6 establishment smell like sewage or vomit. Then again, I’ve never spent enough time in a bathroom at a Motel 6 to make it smell that way.]

When traveling, it’s always handy to have a Sprint phone in hand. I was able to constantly check and send e-mails and send and receive texts, and the battery lasted more than long enough to cover a full day in Manhattan that began when I walked out the door of the Philly non-Motel 6 at 6:30 a.m. and headed for the 30th Street Station, hopped on the Acela Express to New York, exited at Penn Station, hoofed it to Fordham, spent four hours there and spoke on a “Who Doesn’t Belong and Why?” panel that featured former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer and former Yankees and MTV COO David Sussman, walked back to 38th Street between 7th and 8th for lunch with our pal Gregg Rosenthal of NBC/Rotoworld at Lazzara’s Pizza (as it turns out, Paesano’s was purely fictional), and then finished the trek to Penn Station for the train back to Philly, returning to the non-Motel 6 a full ten hours after leaving, with still plenty of battery life left.

The Sprint device -- and the amazingly fast service both on the train and in Manhattan -- allowed me to keep in constant touch with Aaron Wilson, who had primary responsibility for holding down the fort while I was gone. It also helped me remain connected to Florio Jr., who stayed in Philly with his mom but nevertheless wanted to hear all about Manhattan.

He wanted to see the place, too, so I was able to take a few pictures. They’re pasted below.

I tripped over a panhandler right after taking this one.

I wonder if Susan Ross still has a crush on him.

We were 20 rows from the field; I almost ate a foul ball while trying to eat a cheesesteak.

So there you have it. A glimpse of our Philly trip, courtesy of the Palm Treo 775p from Sprint, which is the exclusive telecommunications partner of PFT.

I’ll be posting separately about my visit to NFL Films. For now, the goal was to find a way to get you thinking about Sprint’s products and services without making it too obvious. Oops.
