Migraine Keeps McDaniels From Checking Out Sanchez

The Broncos worked out former USC quarterback Mark Sanchez on Tuesday.  According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, however, coach Josh McDaniels didn’t make the trip.
Due to a migraine.
We’re not questioning whether McDaniels truly had a migraine.  And we don’t know whether McDaniels has the same kind of potentially debilitating migraine condition that plagued former Broncos running back Terrell Davis.  But in the wake of the recent diva-style showdown with former Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, it just sounds a tad lame.  (Next time, we suggest lupus.)
In McDaniels’ absence, offensive coordinator Mike McCoy made the trip with G.M. Brian Xanders to Sanchez’s former high school in Mission Viejo, California.
The session lasted nearly four hours, with the Broncos representatives walking Sanchez through college game films and then eyeballing a 45-minute throwing session.
Mike Mayock of NFL Network thinks that Sanchez has established himself as the Bizarro Matt Leinart, showing a work ethic that runs counter to Leinart’s three-day-beard Hollywood demeanor.
And whether it’s a multi-team smokescreen or whether it’s legit, the buzz is building for Sanchez.
Even though he has played only one game since November, and none since early January.

Mike, easy on the lupus jokes. There are some people in Arizona right now saying “WTF, first he messes with Warner, then he continually takes jabs at the Cardinals, and now lupus??? He has gone too far.”

I know a few people who get migraines. You can’t travel with one.
Of course, the people I know who get migraines are all chicks though, so take that for what it’s worth.

Sadly to say, I think he’s starting to feel he’s just not meant to be an NFL coach and doesn’t know how to bow out without looking like he just screwed an organization without a plan.
I hope for him it’s not the case.

No doubt his panties were in a bunch as well.

I can’t recall a time it’s been this disappointing to be a Broncos fan. I’m curious if anybody can sell me on why I should be optimistic after Mike gets fired. Bowlen ignores precedent and brings hot NE Assistant of the year, who attempts to move Cutler for the NE backup, fails and we lose Cutler anyway. Now the guy is standing up high-profile draft prospects?

Dude, back off. Migraine headaches aren’t cluster headaches, but they can be disabling. The pain from them can be so intense that you puke (I used to get Cluster Headaches and believe me, when I had them I was unable to even walk once they hit).

  8. Burritto says: Apr 22, 2009 9:00 AM

What a miserable failure McDaniels is.

“Migraine” must be Belichick double-speak for bruised vagina.

  12. Steelers2Tampa says: Apr 22, 2009 9:10 AM

Flying from Pittsburgh to Tampa the other day on Southwest, I read an article in Southwest’s magazine that stated 80% of all woman exaggerate their sypmtons when sick.
I thought this was interesting because I would have assumed all women exaggerate.

  13. Greg says: Apr 22, 2009 9:14 AM

I don’t see why it is important for the guy that would be developing the quarterback to miss a trip to see the quarterback he would be developing. OK really I do get it and McDaniels is off to a rough start. I have to admit I thought this guy would come in and set a team on fire.
I have never even had a headache so I can’t imagine what a migraine feels like. Might be legit for all I know.

  14. EverybodyGotAIDS says: Apr 22, 2009 9:25 AM

    Steelers2Tampa,
What that stat was SUPPOSED to read was “80% of women ADMIT TO exaggerating their symptoms when sick”. I refuse to believe that a 100.2 degree fever warrants three days in bed.

  15. TheDPR says: Apr 22, 2009 9:32 AM

E.G.AIDS, your wife pulls that, too?
I consider myself lucky when I can stay in bed until 8am, sick or not.

    Napoleon,
First of all, fix this website. You got advertisers, you’ve got income, BUY FOUR SERVERS, OR FORTY, WHATEVER IT TAKES, AND FIX THIS BOONDOGGLE.
When you write , “next time we suggest Lupus” is the kind of insensitive crap you cannot get away with nowadays, you midget. How about, “next time we suggest short”. How does that sound, Napoleon Florio.
This is a non=story. I’ll tell you now that Chris Simms is potentially the same player as a Matt Cassel, a New England Patriot do-it-all dink-dunk-slam-the-door kind of player. I wouldn’t give Sanchez more than a 20% chance of being a Bronco under any circumstances. Seeing Sanchez probably CAUSED the migraine.
That Josh McDaniels didn’t make this trip is the same kind of story as Mike Florio not paying the money to FIX THIS SITE. If I seen another NBC logo, EVERTIME I SEE THE NBC LOGO, I know that once again, Florio still has to make sure this internet thing is going to work before he ponies up the $5 grand.
    Shoemaker!

One of the major problems with migraines is that they commonly cause an extreme sensitivty to light. It is not unusual for migraine sufferers to be unable to go outside because of this, especially when you consider the nausea and other general pain it causes. A migraine is a fair explanation for missing something that important.
It’s nice to see how many enternally single mysogynistic scumbags there are posting comments around here. Dudes need to grow up.

Yeah he gave the Broncos a miagraine when he took the only strength of the team and ran off the only production offensively they had…. all their wins came on cutlers arm………. Mckiddie coach was born and raised in Ohio to get revenge for the drive and fumble…….. sniff that you Bronco jackasses with big teeth…… Elway comes to mind………..ever hear of the billy goat curse at Wrigley…… Josh Mckiddie Coach is the Cleveland goat for Mile High…… My prediction…. Shanahan is laughing in the Carribean sipping Margarituas and Pat Bowlen is hitting on his crack pipe………………. looks like the Circus moved From Cleveland to Denver………….hey….. Romeo the clown is available and we will throw in a year of free hot wing buckets so you don’t wind up broke…..i predict the Broncos will go 5-11 this year……. and wait til you see Andre Davis chasing down running backs 30 yards down field…. it’s like watching Gramma getting run over by a reindeer…..lol

  20. sweetleaf says: Apr 22, 2009 9:52 AM

sounds like the Bronco’s and McDaniels, are trying to act like there interest is minimum, so it looks like they will be trading up and neglecting there defense

  21. Nate A says: Apr 22, 2009 9:53 AM

Sanchez isn’t their pick. They aren’t moving up to the 2 to 4 range in this draft to take him. Migraine? That’s just an excuse so that he doesn’t have to waste his time on Sanchez and can do real draft prep.

  22. lee says: Apr 22, 2009 10:02 AM

Hey Mike Florio, Lupus isnt really anything to joke about.
Clearly you dont have a family member who suffers from this disease.
Clearly you have not even a modicum of class anymore, yes im saying
    at one point you did.
    An apology is in order.
you could have ripped Josh a new one on the headache thing without having
    to trample of other folks.
pretty much shows a small mind in my book.
sorta reminds me of a few West Virginia jokes, you know the part about small minds.

Lee…you obviously don’t watch House, M.D. Florio’s Lupus comment is a reference to that show…Lupus is often discussed when they’re trying to find a diagnosis…but I can’t recall an episode where Lupus was the actual diagnosis…so it’s kind of a gag with fans of the show.
So get your panties out of a bunch.

This guy is something. It is obvious what he wants: 6th round pick/undrafted guy to turn him into Brady #2 (or #3). If Broncos take Sanchez he won’t get the ” miraculous developer” sticker.

Let’s say the migraine was real. Those suckers are incredibly debilitating. What happens if he gets one on Sunday? When he was with New England no one would have noticed because Belicheck was a control freak. Now, he is the one in charge. Who takes over if he can’t coach?

  29. Brewster says: Apr 22, 2009 10:33 AM

McDaniels may well have had a migrane, in which case I can see why he couldn’t travel or perhaps even get out of bed.
But the real story here is this guy just seems to be unable to get out of his own way with mistakes at an inopportune time.
If he had no intention of going anyway and this was all a smoke screen that approach is very disingenuous and should not be lost on team members who expect the truth from their Coach (kinda like Cutler did).

according to a report out of South Bend, Charlie Weiss believes that Brady Quinn will be dealt to Denver for the 12th pick this year and a conditional pick in 2010….. there is a quiet calm before the storm brewing on the shores of Lake Erie… Weiss has told McDaniels that Mile High will fit Quinn like a glove and provide the Broncos with a franchise QB for the next decade…. It is being leaked that the Broncos were concerned that Cutlers partying would eventually lead to cutting the QB’s carerr in half…….. Quinn is known at a gymrat that lives in weight room………………

    Several interesting points here.
    1. Charlie Weiss telling Josh McDaniels how good Brady Quinn might be is like a virgin telling a hooker how good sex is. No idea.
    2. This concern on the part of the Broncos with Cutler’s “partying” is quite curious. You read it in the sports section, but interestingly enough there was a comment from a columnist last week from the Social Section of the Denver Post who quoted a multi-unit upscale Denver Bar owner saying that Cutler was rarely seen on the Bar scene in Denver. They would have liked for him to have been active because it is good for business, but that he wasn’t active. So where the hell was he doing all of this supposed drinking?
And again, these supposed drinking problems surfaced after Shanahan was fired.

Seriously, as a Pats fan I never one time heard even a whisper of his having migraines. Probably because the Pats like to play with the injury report though. ; )

  40. Draft King says: Apr 22, 2009 7:18 PM

Migraine and/or cluster headaches are horrible. I’ve suffered from cluster headaches since 2000, and I can assure you that if McDaniels had a migraine, that is a legit excuse. It’s pain on a level that I otherwise never experienced.
