Snyder Says He Won't Trade His 2010 First-Rounder To Move Up

The Redskins widely are believed to be interested in moving up from the twelfth thirteenth overall spot in the draft in the hopes of getting in position to select quarterback Mark Sanchez.
But owner Daniel Snyder said Friday that his team won’t be trading its first-round pick in 2010 in order to make it happen.
We’re not going to be trading next year’s one,” Snyder said.  “We’ve already said that several times.
“We’re really not as a franchise comfortable trading first-round draft picks.  I don’t think it’s a wise move to keep trading that pick.  It’s always a little bit risky.”
The Redskins did not exercise a first-round pick in 2008, 2006, or 2003.  Last year, they reportedly offered a package worth up to two first-round picks to the Bengals for receiver Chad Johnson.

  1. “We’re really not as a franchise comfortable trading first-round draft picks. ”
    Umm, say what?

  2. They traded away their 1st rounder last year for 2 2nd rounders(and more picks), so bringing that up doesn’t seem fair.

  3. “We’re really not as a franchise comfortable trading first-round draft picks. I don’t think it’s a wise move to keep trading that pick. It’s always a little bit risky.”
That last part kills me about not wanting to do anything that’s risky. Yet that’s what makes you an ass and do ridiculous things in free agency and the draft. As an Eagles fan, I love the fact that he’s in the NFC East. God bless you Dan Snyder.

  4. The question is, what the hell were the Bengals thinking turning down 2 first round picks for Ocho?

  5. Who was dumber last year? The Redskins for offering two #1s for Ochocinco, or the Bengals refusing the offer??
Since that deal never happened, Snyder should treat this year’s and next year’s first-round picks as house money and deal them to the Lions for the #1 spot this year.

  6. “The question is, what the hell were the Bengals thinking turning down 2 first round picks for Ocho?”
    Um – it’s the Bengals.
Snyder did a big “wshew” after that one……….idiot.

  7. He doesn’t want to trade next years 1st rounder away because he knows it’ll be a top 5 pick…

  8. i wouldnt be surprised to see snyder go ahead and trade next years 1st anyways, he never means what he says
btw the skins have the 13th overall pick. not 12th

  9. Yah Larry David.. that is probably the worst draft move in the history of the draft, the move that never happened.

  10. everyone on here keeps forgetting the skins offered the bengals a 1st and a condition 1st rounder based upon the skins making the playoffs. if the skins didn’t make the playoffs it would have been a 1st and a 3rd.

  11. Snyder meant to say “We’re not a franchise that’s really comfortable drafting players. We don’t know what we’re doing.”

  12. nice work Florio, the Skins have the 13th pick not the 12th. How long have you been studying this draft???

  13. So, did they already trade with Denver to get to the twelfth overall spot? I’d love to know what the Bronx got for that.

  14. Snyder Says He Won’t Trade His 2010 First-Rounder To Move Up
    Ha – Ha – Ha – Ha – Ha – Ha – Ha – Ha – Ha – Ha – Ha – Ha ! .. Mike stop it .. too F’N Funny.

  15. Sure they wont trade a first round pick so they can draft a big name, but they sure as hell will trade their 2nd round pick….they love to do that. Mark Brunnell and Clinton Portis anyone??

I bet you weren’t saying that last year when the Skins swept the Eagles. I can’t say that Snyder makes all the best decisions, but all of the naysayers are kidding themselves if they wouldn’t want an owner who is willing to spend to build a competitive team every year.

  17. Snyder’s actually right, they don’t like trading 1st rounders. Believe it or not, it’s the only round they’ve drafted some pretty good players in recent years. It’s the other 6 picks they have no problem unloading…

  18. “We’re really not as a franchise comfortable trading first-round draft picks. I don’t think it’s a wise move to keep trading that pick. It’s always a little bit risky.”
    What this really means,
“Dammit…if I knew that it was only going to take this and next years first round pick to get Cutler, we would have done it.”

  19. Yeah the redskins traded their pick last year to move down out of the first round…i know you’re all shocked

  20. “So do we have to wait til tomorrow or will the inevitable trade be announced tonight? ”
Tomorrow…probably second’s before they do draft him, otherwise other teams will know exactly where to trade to to get Sanchez ahead of them

  21. “We’re really not as a franchise comfortable trading first-round draft picks.”…
Oh who am I kidding…our next 1st round picks for the century for everyone!!!

  22. Hail to the Redskins! Hail Victory! Braves on the warpath Fight for old D.C.!

Hail to the Redskins! Hail Victory! Braves on the warpath Fight for old D.C.!

  23. As a Redskins fan, I’m glad the Sheagles are in our division. No matter what our idiot owner does at the end of the year we never have to worry about fatass Andy Reid hoisting the Lombardi.
