In a related note, it was revealsed today that Mike Brown has kept Jordan Palmer on the Bengal’s roster in order to provide cheap and easy replacement parts for Carson. When asked to comment, Mr. Brown indicated that it was cheaper to keep a 3rd string QB on the roster and an orthapedic surgeon on staff than to pay a competent offensive line.

2) Every fan who wants to bash Cincy for releasing him obviously hasn’t watched any tape of Levi in the last 2 years. Dude is washed up and can’t stay healthy. There isn’t a mediocre DE in the league who can’t beat him.
Basically Joey Porter robbed this chump of his manhood and he hasn’t been the same since ….

I’m sorry, TheVillain112, but I have to disagree with you, Andrews was awful last year. Otherwise, great post.
Andrew, Jones, and Ghaiciuc were all turnstiles when they played. I was impressed with Whitworth and Collins, and Williams is serviceable. I think Palmer may have been able to play the last game or two, but he is not mobile enough to be behind the line they had. At least Fitzpatrick had some wheels and could dodge large men. I love Palmer, but he is a statue back there. This line will be much improved with those three gone. I feel sorry for the Eagles, Chiefs, and whoever gets Jones if they expect productivity. Andrews has the best shot, but I doubt he will develop anymore.

right now and you can’t tell me that a guy with his injury history is gonna be able to play at a high level in that type of offense coming.
i’m not saying he wasn’t at one point a good LT I’m saying that right now given his history it doesn’t seem like a good fit, that and he will end up in Arizona anyway do it’s no use talking about him going to Buffalo

Our 2008 starting tackles were responsible for getting Carson Palmer killed. As I mentioned on another thread, Levi couldn’t block my mother. The reason Reggie Kelly is so valuable to this team is because he sits off Levi’s left shoulder and helps double team the guy playing the 5 technique. That’s also the reason why Reggie Kelly caught exactly 5 balls from the TE position last year – he was always in on max-protect packages because – as I mentioned above – LEVI COUDLN’T BLOCK MY MOTHER.
On top of that, his knees are shot (already), and he plays in quicksand. So yeah, other than that, we were freaking STUPID to get rid of him. There was NO trade market for this guy – we explored that at the owners meetings – so we dumped him.
As for Stacy Andrews, that guy got a job in the league because he’s Shawn Andrews’ brother. He was a project that never panned out. He can run block just fine, but his pass blocking was a disgrace. In fact, it was HIS man that got through and tore up Carson’s elbow in the Meadowlands last year.
Getting rid of these two clowns is a huge upgrade for us. Smith will start at one of the two tackle spots (probably RT early) and Anthony Collins will start at LT. If you haven’t heard of Anthony Collins, you will. Whitworth can play either guard spot and can fill in at either tackle in a pinch if one of these guys gets hurt.
Do your freaking homework before you pop off about someone’s team. THAT’S a typical bonehead move.

I have been a Bills fan for over 30 years. All you stupid maurons that actually think the Ills have a LT on their current roster are bigger fools than Dick Mauron, Russ Brandon an the rest! Langston Walker is an overrated, fat slob who also happens to be slow footed……not something that works out well against speed rushers. Afterall, he is barely servicable at RT. This pathetic management team failed to replace Peters either through the draft or FA. Stop drinking the koolaid. This team will be 3-13 in 2009! Can’t wait for 2010 with a new coach and owner! TO will be all over Mauron’s clueless backside by halftime of week 3!!!!!!!!!

He’s coming from the team that created the no huddle. They’ve been running it as much as the Colts have in recent seasons. If you are indeed a Buffalo fan you should know the Bengals beat the Bills in the AFC championship game using the no huddle in the ’88-’89 season. Before the game the Bills tried to get the refs to not allow the no huddle. After that defeat, the Bills adopted the no huddle.
My point is the Bengals have run the no huddle for years, even more so since Bob Bratkowski has been the offensive coordinator. If that is your only reason for Jones not to be a Bill, it’s wrong.

Frankly can still play? You are a douche with an very large head. Levi was a warrior for us, I will never forget him coming back from knee surgery in a week to play at the end of the season in 03′.
However, too much wear and tear on his knees over the years have reduced him to a shadow of his former self. He might be able to help another team but NOT at LT. He might be able to help in a limited and or backup role on the interior. His time is limited and I think he will be out of the league in 2 or 3 years.

Yes, the $3 million price tag is cheap for a starting LT and still reasonable for a RT.
So why not move him to the right side? Don’t good LTs make really good RTs and really good LT make excellent RTs?
Perhaps they gave him a shot at RT and he didn’t work out.

Some people should try doing some research before spouting out stupid comments.
1. Levi Jones hasn’t been healthy since 2006. When he did play he got owned by every top DE he faced: Jared Allen, Dwight Freeney, Trent Cole, Dwight Freeney, etc…
2. Levi did have a run in with the law although it was dismissed. And I’m not talking about the Joey Porter beatdown.
3. The Bengals had 2 atrocious O-Linemen last season: Ghiaciuc and Levi. Stacey Andrews wasn’t horrible but he wasn’t good either.
Anthony Collins started for Levi for most of the second half of last season and played very well against good DE’s from teams like the Steelers and Colts. He will start either at LT or RT. Andre Smith will start at the other Tackle position. Bobbie Williams is one of the most under-rated linemen in the entire league and is a rock at RG. Andrew Whithworth is serviceable at LG. Plus we have depth with Nate Livings at Guard. Overall it will be a much improved O-Line without Levi, Stacy and most importantly without Ghiaciuc.
So before you start criticizing, know what you’re talking about…

As if that’s a bad thing, Florio? Did you see the Bengals line last year? Atrocious–and it started at the Tackles. Stacy Andrews is awful–the Eagles paid WAY too much for him and Levi never regained his Pro Bowl alternate form from 2003-2005. Good luck to whoever gets him now–a 30 year-old Left Tackle with two bad knees is no treasure. The Bengals already have three VERY capable Left Tackles on the roster in Anthony Collins, Andrew Whitworth and now, Andre Smith. As of today, it looks as if they’ll start Smith at LT, Whitworth at LG and Collins at RT–a MUCH better situation than last year. The Bengals will now pursue Roy Williams–bet on it.

Keep Levi out of Buffalo. he has missed 17 of 48 games with knee, hamstring, back problems, and doesn’t seem to be a fit for an offense that is planning on going no huddle up tempo.

Considering it’s been well-established they’ve been shopping him since before the draft, I think that’s exactly the situation. He’s been injured most of the time the last couple years, and sucked the rest of the time. Teams that wanted him probably realized they’d have a crack at seeing him for free. Which is what happened.
