Green Bay Packers Pro Bowl safety Nick Collins, who’s reportedly unhappy due to his contract status, denied that unresolved business is the reason why he hasn’t been a mainstay at voluntary offseason workouts.
According to Greg A. Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Collins claimed that he has personal reasons for not attending the offseason program. Collins is heading into the final year of his original rookie contract and is due a $3.045 million base salary.
“I had some family issues, don’t really want to talk about it,” Collins said today. “(The family issues) are the problem. … The contract was never an issue. Y’all are the ones writing all that stuff about a contract. I haven’t said a word about a contract, so my thing is I have family issues that I’m taking care of and that’s what I’m dealing with.”
Collins declined to specify what sort of family problems he’s dealing with, but said that it has nothing to do with his wife recently giving birth to their third child.
However, Collins made no guarantees that he would show up for upcoming team activities due to the family issues and said he has an “understanding” with the coaching staff.
It’s worth noting that Packers coach Mike McCarthy said at a recent minicamp that a “business situation,” was at the heart of why Collins hasn’t been around, directly contradicting the defensive back’s comments.

Sounds like Collins hung around Lord Favre too much…..
Of course it’s family-related. His family can’t eat with that pittance of a salary he’s making. His 3 kids can only eat 5 meals a day. That’s a serious family crisis.
Of course, it’s family related … HIS FAMILY NEEDS MORE MONEY!
I hope it’s true that it’s not a contract issue, however I wish Collins the best in resolving his off-field problems. He’s been a great safety over the past few years and has really started to bloom as a pro.
Nick’s having family problems because his wife and kids don’t think he’s getting paid enough.
Come on Nick — don’t you know you were drafted by the Packers. God’s gift to professional sports franchises — you should be paying Packers to play for them as well as signing away your children…
Yeah… his family is having problems dealing with living in the most boring hell hole on Earth.
“Baby, you makes lots of money. Why we gotta live in dis trailer?”
“Dats all they got here woman! Dats all dey is!”

I tend to disagree. He was rather disappointing his first three years. Last year he improved, and his gaudy INT and TD numbers definitely count for a lot, but he’s not an elite player yet. He still misses way too many tackles for my liking, and a lot of those INTs fell into his lap, rather than him making a great play on the ball.
After watching him talk on a few team videos, I get the feeling that he is a selfish egomaniac that won’t give the team any kind of a discount.
I would like him to stick around, but I’d say the chances are 2-1 that this is his last year in GB.
He’s currently on the Packers’ fan tour around the state so I’d say he’s not burning any bridges right now. And hey Philtration, some very classy dialogue there. Maybe it’s not too late to get a job writing for Andy and Kingfisher.
