Willie Anderson Retires

Baltimore Ravens veteran offensive tackle Willie Anderson, who had been battling injuries, was placed on the reserve/retired list, Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome announced today. Anderson, 33, is a four-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle who signed with the Ravens prior to last season after being cut by the Cincinnati Bengals. Anderson didn’t participate in the Ravens’ recent full-team mandatory minicamp, and coach John Harbaugh cited knee problems as the reason for his inactivity. Anderson had contemplated retirement during the offseason as the Ravens pursued free agent offensive tackle Orlando Pace, who wound up signing with the Chicago Bears. Ultimately, the Ravens traded up in the first round to land Ole Miss consensus All-American offensive tackle Michael Oher. Oher lined up with the first-team offense at right tackle during minicamp.
