Dolphins On Thin Ice

At least two Miami Dolphins players are under scrutiny from the coaching staff based on their personal situations, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.
Undrafted rookie offensive J.D. Quinn, who has three DUI arrests on his rap sheet, was informed by team officials that he will be cut from the roster if he’s arrested again for DUI, per the report.
Quinn is attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
Meanwhile, veteran nose guard Paul Soliai is “in the doghouse” after reporting 12 pounds over his playing weight.
Like Quinn, Soliai has been put on notice by team officials.
Soliai has been told in no uncertain terms by the coaching staff that he has to lose weight and excel during training camp to hold onto his position on the team.

Must be a slow news cycle.

Seems like they’re trying to get something out of Quinn that they haven’t seen yet. Undrafted guy who should bring a level of intensity knowing that this might be his one shot.
Does he enter the NFL in the substance abuse program because of his priors?
Solai isn’t consistent but I guess he shows enough to get suspended but still stick around. Probably shows good character and stays out of trouble. Just late and eats too much. He’s lucky they didn’t address the nose high in the draft because that would have guaranteed his exit. Now he has to beat out Joe Cohen as well as some raw undrafted kid that showed promise in rookie camp.
Ferguson is the one guy they’re gambling on this year in terms of a starters health and I’m guessing its because there’s a high probability they can address the position next offseason.
I wish Florio would start adding some insignificant Pat White one-liner at the end of every Dolphins post. It would become an instant classic. Even if its an update stating no new Pat White news.
I haven’t read your book yet but from what I understand its about 2 QBs…one pocket guy and one scrambler from the same team. I’ll say no more about the plot and I hope my understanding is right about the book or else this really makes no sense.
You should rewrite it with Chad Henne and Pat White at Dolphins camp. Thats for free Florio but maybe it’ll get me a free copy of your book.

I don’t think the Dolphins would have to worry about cutting him as a fourth DUI is usually considered a felony in most states resulting in one year in the pokie.

Brilliant PR move by the dolphins…….Let’s name the stadium after a beer, sign an undrafted free agent who was kicked off his college team, has 3 DUI’s, in which luckily he didn’t kill or maim anyone or himself, but take the high road and say one more DUI and you can’t play….

FYI, you really shouldn’t drop the dime on Quinn attending AA meetings. It is supposed to be anonymous. It would be a good rule of thumb for future players to whom this applies, just out of respect for the person and the program.

On another note, Florio is also attending AA. Assholes Anonymous.

the quinn threat is hollow – the guy had 3 DUIs when they signed him. this comment above in the story goes without saying….
soliai can be on thin ice all day long – he’s been there for years now on the dolphins. the problem is they have no depth at NT, so he’s pretty much guaranteed a roster spot until they draft or trade for someone else. Jason Ferguson is a double-cheeseburger away from an injury, and Soliai is the next in line. cutting him would be foolish, so i’ll call that a hollow threat.

    Paul Soliai on thin ice
That’s the first time the words Paul Soliai and the word “thin” have ever been used in the same sentence, ever.
