No New Deal for Giants’ Pierce In The Offing

The New York Giants aren’t working on a contract extension for linebacker Antonio Pierce, a stance that’s unlikely to change despite his previous request for a new deal, according to Bob Glauber of Newsday. Per the report, which cited sources, the Giants are firm on not working out a new deal for Pierce. Signed to a $26 million contract in 2005, Pierce is under contract for two more seasons. According to NFL Players Association records, Pierce is due a $4.35 million base salary this year and a $4.75 million base salary in 2010. Pierce recorded 95 tackles and two sacks in 15 starts last season. In eight NFL seasons, Pierce has registered 631 career tackles, eight sacks and seven interceptions.
