Agent: Thomas Jones Will Report Next Week

New York Jets running back Thomas Jones, who’s seeking a new contract, will show up for the team’s Organized Team Activity sessions next week, according to his agent.
Jones’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, wrote on his Twitter account today that Jones plans to attend the voluntary workouts and end his self-imposed absence.
Prior to his Twitter announcement, Rosenhaus downplayed the contract dispute during an interview today with Steve Wyche of
“I will admit that we are in some discussions with the team,” Rosenhaus said. “There is no acrimony, and who knows? He may even be showing up in the near future.
“I don’t think this situation is as bad as people are making it out to be, and we’re hopeful he will be back in the fold and there won’t be any issues.”
Jones, who rushed for 1,312 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, is due a $900,000 base salary in 2009. He’s under contract through 2010.
However, Jones isn’t the only member of the Jets’ backfield who wants a new deal.
The Jets are also in talks with running back Leon Washington’s agent, Alvin Keels.

  1. So his base salary is 900k. He seems to forget that he already pocketed 13 million over the previous 2 years. I hate how players seem to forget the signing bonus and pretend it’s just free money.

  2. Screw Rosenhaus and Twitter. I could follow this on Twitter if I wanted to be “tweeted”.

  3. There is no way the Jets should or will give Thomas Jones a new contract. They’ve got Washinton and Greene, and Jones is on the wrong side of 30. Jones will play out this year at $900,000 and then get cut before next season when he is due $7,000,000 in total compensation.
