Our pal Andy Fitzpatrick of Sirius NFL Radio forwarded to us recently by e-mail a partial transcript of Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer’s recent appearance.
And, of course, it then languished on our list of things to do.
But we’ve pushed it to the front burner, thanks to Joe Reedy’s article in the Cincinnati Enquirer regarding Palmer’s comments.
Basically, Palmer gives a verbal glove slap to receiver Chad Ochocinco.
“I haven’t talked to him,” Palmer told Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan of Movin’ The Chains. “I haven’t talked to anybody that has talked to him. He wasn’t here last year so I’m expecting him not to be here at all this year. Last year I think he was here for the mandatory camp but didn’t participate in it. So I’m planning on him not being here just because he hasn’t been here yet so we’ll prepare.”
In fact, at one point Palmer seems to imply that Ochocinco won’t be back, ever. “It’s going to be different, a completely different look for us without T.J. [Houshmandzadeh] and Chad,” Palmer said.
Or maybe Palmer is simply saying that he plans to lobby for someone other than Ochocinco to have the two top spots on the depth chart.
Consider this: “We re-signed Laveranues Coles from New York and he’s been a pleasant surprise, everything we’ve expected and more. We’ve got some up-and-comers, some guys that people don’t know about, a guy named Jerome Simpson, a second round pick from a year ago. Andre Caldwell, a guy out of Florida, a third round pick from a year ago. Both guys we’re expecting to make big plays and another guy, Antonio Chatman, who hasn’t had a ton of balls thrown his way but he’s an explosive player. So it’s definitely a new look for the Bengals receiver corps but I couldn’t be happier with the guys we’ve got. . . .
“T.J.’s gone and Chad’s pretty much gone, he hasn’t been here, so we’ve got guys that want those two spots, guys that compete day in and day out, when we’re out there on the field, running, conditioning and in the weight room
lifting. They’re guys that want to take over for those two spots. They look every bit capable of doing what we’re going to ask them to do.”
Of course, it’s also possible that Palmer is trying to shame Ochocinco into showing up. If he doesn’t, however, Palmer seems to be comfortable with the guys he now has.
Did Carson Palmer Hint That Ochocinco Will Be Benched?

I’m pretty sure Palmer was implying that it’s going to be different with neither of them at camp. Nice sensationalism, Florio!
It’s about time. I surely hope as a part time Bengal fan that I can watch the games without a side show now. They might actually be a threat now that they won’t have to deal with that damn bickering on the sidelines every time something didn’t go T.J.’s way or Chad’s way.
I think it was Johnson’s work ethic that really put him into the discussion of elite WRs. I read a few articles talking about him staying up all night watching film and even spending the night at the Bengals’ facility. But since he’s been bitching about his contract and skipping the offseason program and whatnot, his play has diminished and he’s nowhere near the player he was just 2-3 years ago. Cincy should’ve taken Washington’s picks last year…
What? No mention of the half man, half cat – all criminal – Chris Henry, Florio?
I feel bad for Palmer. Good QB and good guy stuck on a crappy team known for its collection of rotten apples. He deserves better
the New England Patriots have 0 legit Super Bowl wins. Cheaters.
Tom Brady sucks.
Kudo’s to Palmer, he’s a classy dude and an excellent QB, wasting away being surrounded by selfish idiots.
As a Steelers fan, I have no love for the Bengals or their players. However, its hard not to have a little sympathy for Carson Palmer. The guy is a stud QB, a team player and a class act in general, yet he has to put up with a circus type atmosphere and a prima donna like Johnson every year.
He’d probably never admit it, but im sure he’d trade his eye teeth to be with another organization.
I’m a Steelers fan, but I would actually like to see the Bengals succeed with Ochocinco on the bench. I’ve got a lot of respect for Palmer and I’ve always wanted to see what he could do without all of the diva / distraction stuff he’s had to deal with. I’ve always liked to think that they would have been better off with less talent but more “team-player” attitudes on that team. Maybe this is the year we’ll get to see if that’s true or not.
MIKE D:
Eye teeth, is that what happens when you imbreed in the Burgh?
Aren’t the words “Ochocinco” and “shame” being in the same sentence an oxymoron ?
Bungles=Joke
And this is somehow considered news? You should have left this on the back burner. You took from Carson talking about the 1st OTA practice, not minicamps, but OTA practice, to Carson hinting to Chad being benched for the season…… Yea sounds pretty lame to me too…
They cut Levi Jones and let TJ Ponytailpimpjuice slide out west. Why will those pesky Bungles not free Ochostinko? He does not want to be a Bungle anymore and you can still see him play twice a year in Baltimore. The Bungles should have dealt Sinko the stink bomber for the two frist round picks when they had the chance, but why let him continue to be an emotional drag on your off season again? Pesky Bungles. He does not want to be a bungle anymore. Can’t you see that? You can make him show up, but you can not make him want to be there. He is like a horse with gold teeth that needs to be free to run and dance, prance around like a clown and make plays.
Free Ocho.
cincykid=NANCY
Watch out for the bungals this year coming in with a better defense then last year in which they were ranked 12th overall and coming back with a reguvenated offense thanks to the loss of TJ and the gain of an actually QB who is healthy I think that they could have an ok run game this year and can stop run a lot better too. Look for tank Johnson to be a huge pick up and hopefully they will have enough brains to just get rid of chad he is a good reciever but his priorities are mixed up. Real players who want new contracts don’t try to take plays off and give up on their teams. I think boldin did a he’ll of a job last year with the work he put in for a team in the same situation but hopefully either char feels he is their number one and can do more than talk about it or they can just dump his ass already.
Florio used some bad quotes to get his point across. He should have used this one:
“We’ve got guys that want to work that are here,” he said. “We’ve got guys that want those spots, that want to play in that position. They’re competing, they’re battling. That’s all you can ask.”
Palmer has been particularly vocal about wide receiver Chris Henry. After a four-year career as a player mostly used in three wides, Henry, Palmer says, is ready to play every snap at the X receiver spot The Ocho has held down for the last seven full seasons.
“That’s what he’s been preparing for and that’s what I’ve been preparing for. I’ve been working with him,” Palmer said. “He’s determined, he’s hungry. It’s fun to see.”
Palmer is working his arse off with Henry to get him ready to take over the X spot. If Chad thinks he’s just going to walk into camp and have the position handed to him this season then he’s in for a rude awakening…
Half man Half Cat FISH – - – He needs some wiskers and a hook in his mouth and you can deep fry him.

Umm, no. “Eye teeth” refer to the 4 cuspids that, unless you have some type of defect, all people have in their mouth.
Since ive been kind enough to respond to your question, perhaps you could clarify something for me. What exactly does “imbreed” mean?
Maybe, they’ll trade him right before training camp, so that he doesn’t even get to benefit from the Hard Knocks exposure.
LMFAO @ every Steeler fan that has to come here and ATTEMPT UNSUCCESSFULLY to shame us….You all are getting YOU ASS KICKED this year….Take it how you want and I KNOW NOT any of you BELIEVE that but by the end of the year YOU WILL REMEMBER MY WORDS.
Florio,
You cut the interview off and didnt leave the most GLARING words about the receivers when he mentioned Chris Henry…..YES CHRIS HENRY! Well Chris hasnt been in trouble he has been at the facility every day or in Cali with Charles Collins (Phenom Factory) since January….He spent 3 weeks on the West coast with Charles then brough his asss right back to the Nati to continue to work out…He has studied every day he is watching film and he has been throwing with Palmer EVERY DAY!!!!!!!! You know a man makes mistakes they live lifestyles….BUT NO ONE and I say NO ONE will make me believe that they can NOT change….We are witnessing a hell of a turnaround for Chris who is engaged has 2 or kids by the same lady let me say that for the assholes out there and he values his family his life and his career…When he steps out now HE HANGS WITH TEAM!!!!!!!! Here is a link from Bengals.com where Palmer RAVES about Chris Henry…..
In another thread he mentioned that he could see Chris Henry getting 50-60 snaps a game th is year at the “X” position which is Chad’s position…..So does that mean Chad will be traded or will he be benched???? FIND OUT FLORIO!!!!!!!! LOL

Cincy is full of inbred rednecks, which is just common sense… since it is in Ohio.
Also, Carson Palmer is completely overrated. The guy has a strong arm and seems to have the tools to be a good qb, but he cannot put it together & make it happen. Enough of this nonsense calling him elite. There are 3 elite qb’s in the game right now, Brady, Manning, and Roethlisberger. After them, there is a second tier of good qb’s- I do not think Palmer is in that class either. He is mediocre & currently the 3rd best qb in the AFC North, behind ben & flacco.
The Bengals are a joke organization- one of the worst in all of sports. They should move & just start over/give up.
“Since ive been kind enough to respond to your question, perhaps you could clarify something for me. What exactly does “imbreed” mean? ”
It’s short for “himbreed”, which refers to the unique combination of manlove and inbreeding common to Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.
@ DC Bengals Fan
you have it all wrong, as it is true some inbreeding does go on in PA it is mostly/ if not all done around the Philly area. I think it originated around 1875 (give or take 5 years) when a family was kicked out of Cincy for inbreeding so they took it to Philly where not only does inbreeding take place it is also widely accepted in the community. I mean they are the “city of brotherly butt plugging”…o i mean “city of fudge packing” noo wait its the “city of brotherly love”
GOOOO STILLERS
FROGGIE YOU ARE AN IDIOT. YOU THINK FLACCO IS BETTER THAN PALMER. THATS A JOKE. CARSON PALMER IS ONE OF THE BEST QB;’S IN THE GAME. FOR THAT MATTER HE IS A BETTER QB THAN ROETHLESBERGER ALSO BUT HE JUST DOESN’T HAVE THE ORGANIZATION OR A DEFENSE TO LEAN ON. HERE ARE SOME NUMBERS FOR YOU TO PROVE MY POINT. BEN AND CARSON BOTH CAME INTO THE LEAGUE IN ’04. BEN’S NUMBERS ARE AS FOLLOWS: CAREER 14,974YDS 101 TD’S AND 69 INT’S. CARSON’S CAREER 15,630 YDS 107 TD’S 67 INT AND CARSON ONLY PLAYED IN FOUR GAMES LAST YEAR. FLACCO LAST YEAR HAD 2,971 YDS AND 14TD’S AND 12 INT’S. BENS NUMBERS LAST YEAR 3,301 YD’S 17TD 15INT, NO EXACTLY GREAT NUMBERS, BUT HE WON A SUPER BOWL GOING 9-21 123YDS AND 2 INTS. DEFENSE WINS GAMES.
I hope palmer’s right about saying that they are going to win a lot of games this year…i mean they cut their best 2 OL the past two seasons, and brought in a replacement in the draft who has man boobs, when they could’ve gotten eugene monroe…In order for them to win games, they got to score 25-30 points a game because their D cannot stop anybody
“jwill007=internet tough guy ”
Care to confirm that??? I havent called anyone out to a fight or threatened them…..LOL IM JUST PASSIONATE ABOUT MY TEAM and I invite others to research the NOW about my team and not the PAST before they make dumb ass comments…..Give me an intelligent comment and I will give you 1 back give me BULLISH and you will get t in return……Its the american way…..Look forward to our battles and I hope you dont think they’re both just 2 EASY WINS…..LOL cause its going to be funny reading your post the next day when Florio makes a comment about the game CAUSE HE WILL…..LOL If I lose I will man up give you props and plan for the next week…..Lets see if you do that…..
NFL Qbs are judged on wins and losses not fantassy football stats. Palmer is not a winner in the NFL. He may be a very good player, but if he was as good as Bungle fans and some experts say, he would have been to more than one playoff game by now. Peyton never won in the post season without a good defense and run game backing him up, but he never had a Bungle like season either since his rookie year.
Palmer has become a loose leader of losers. He can say what ever he wants to say but it does not seem to inspire. The Bungles keep bringing in knucke heads with mad criminal tendancies or man boobs, and keep letting decent vet players go for nothing. Why not trade TJ last year or Levi Jones if you were just going to let them walk? Why hold on to Ochostinko when you could get something for him? Who is really getting taught a lesson here?
LOL at the guy who said Flacco better then Palmer….FOLKS thats the stuff Im talking about….Are their real football fans that REALLY know and UNDERSTAND football on this board….Be a homer for your team but be ACCURATE when you talk about other teams instead of reading some fake Peter King article……Now I got to respond to this IDIOT and here is another example of someone that just doesnt know football has hate for cincy football so bad that he cant even give an honest assessment about the moves and changes we have made within our own organization…..LMFAO!!!!!!
“Cincy is full of inbred rednecks, which is just common sense… since it is in Ohio.

Totally the dumbest post on the board…here is a guy that hates the fan base so much hates the team so much that he REFUSES to even give credit about our improvements….See here is how you do it….
Ben Roethlisberger-Hell of a QB makes plays keeps plays alive I could play with him all day!
Troy Polamalu- 1 of the best safeties to EVER play the game tuff as nails makes plays and is a leader in the secondary…Could go to war with this guy anyday…..
You should try it sometime even though I want to kick your teams ass I can at least talk and give props to an opponent in the division….Try being a real football fan…..Good luck!
“I hope palmer’s right about saying that they are going to win a lot of games this year…i mean they cut their best 2 OL the past two seasons, and brought in a replacement in the draft who has man boobs, when they could’ve gotten eugene monroe…In order for them to win games, they got to score 25-30 points a game because their D cannot stop anybody ”
2 best OL the past 2 seasons??? Who are they please list them???? If you say Levi Jones and Willie Anderson…..WRONG! Try Andy Whitworth and Bobbie Williams are the 2 best…..Levi has a bone on bone issue that will never heal properly thus the reason he hasnt signed with anyone yet and Willie just retired do to his knee issues…we resigned TO INJURED GUYS hiding the serious of injuries…I dont call those guys the “2 best lineman” By the way did you check to see what the cincy defense finished last year??? They finished 12th and they were on the field for almost 30 mins a game?!?!?!? Ryan Fitz averaged 5.2 per pass couldnt NEVER convert 3rd downs and the defense was wearing down by the end of the 3rd cause they would get off the field drink a glass of water and it was “time to go right back after our O went 3 and out…….
Now we add a full time bell cow for the whole season we draft the best tackle in the draft with the best knowledge and footwork out of all 4 we have groomed a center for 2 years to take the starting center role Palmer is 100% by launching 50 yard bombs to Chris Henry on Monday in OTA’s we signed L Coles from the Jets drafted the best pass catching TE in CHase Coffman (247 catches in college) and moved our BEST LINEMAN-Andy Whitworth to LT……Just research a little more before you leave this stuff man….
1 thing I dont want to do is comment about anyone else’s team without doing the duediligence of researching 1st before I make myself look like an ass…..Some others should try that…..Good luck
@sanchez.james.5950
The best O-Linemen for the Bengals for the past couple of seasons has been Bobbie Williams. He’s their best run blocker by far and he provides Carson with a solid pocket to pass in.
With Ghiaciuc no longer playing next to him on the line, he’ll do even better this season…
marcduke : “What? No mention of the half man, half cat – all criminal – Chris Henry, Florio?”
Haha that’s awesome because my brother and I always joke that Henry looks like an ancient Egyptian cat. “The Sphinx” haha.
Mike D — You are an absolute mouth-breather and a retard. What in God’s name is “eye teeth”? The Bengals go 10-6 this year (sweeping the Pittsburgh Cheaters), book it.
If the Bengals have all this depth at WR (and I tend to agree with Palmer) then why not trade Ochocinco while he still has some value? I know, I know, they’re the Bengals…
Actually, the people who think Palmer is so special, you are all morons. Like I said, he has the tools, BUT he cannot put it together.
Flacco is not a great QB by any means, but I think he is better than Palmer and will do better than Palmer this year.
If Palmer is so great, lets see how many games he wins this year. I’ll say 5 at the most.
How can anyone really say Palmer is better than Roethlisberger? As far as I am concerned, anyone who says this is joking around and not being serious. There is absolutely no comparison. Forget stats. Why? Because you can have the best stats in the world, but if you aren’t clutch- you aren’t crap. Ben doesn’t need to pass a lot. Why? Yes he has a great defense, but when he does pass, he makes it count and makes plays. Ben is more clutch than any QB in the game today and he has a terrible line to play behind. That can be evidenced by his ridiculous number of 4th quarter comebacks this early in his career, his amazing win total this early in his career, his 2 Super Bowl victories, and the winning drive of this past Super Bowl. Ben is a warrior who plays through injuries and continues to rack up victories for his team. Palmer is an average QB who gets hurt easily and publicly bashes teammates.
You can’t compare these 2. Ben is so far out of Palmer’s league that it isn’t even funny.
DC Bengals fan, you might be the least intelligent person I’ve ever seen post on here. I like your posts, you amuse me as you continue to show your stupidity. “Imbreed.” LOL. At least you don’t live in Ohio, but if you do, you shouldn’t make fun… because you probably are an inbred. Maybe that is the main cause of your lack of intelligence?
Froggie,
What does the Patriots comment have to do w/anything? GET OVER IT!! They cheated-as does the majority of the league-,got caught, paid their dues and that’s it. Let it go.
Also, Big Ben is not elite-though he is good. One of the things that make an elite/franchise qb that is that their team is dependant on them. The Steelers are not. If he didn’t have a running game and defense to depend on, do you think his numbers would be anywhere near elite? Just a thought.
.oldirtybri says:
“If the Bengals have all this depth at WR (and I tend to agree with Palmer) then why not trade Ochocinco while he still has some value? I know, I know, they’re the Bengals… ”
Last year there was a significant cap hit to trade. This year there isn’t, However, the market for experienced, if not elite WRs is/was flooded (Boldin, Ochocinco, Holt, Edwards – most are still on the market as noone will pay more than a 2nd). Mike Brown won’t take less than a 1st for Chad, so he is still on the team, whether or not he likes it.
The Bengals won’t trade within the division (Baltimore), so the Bears are the only likely team and nothing has been coming from that area. The Bengals will not simply cut Chad (for the same reasons Green Bay didnt want Favre in Minn) and will let him rot on the bench if he doesn’t get his act together. If he sits the bench, he will be a no name in 2010 (and his contract doesn’t expire until 2011).
Expect another round of “Bengals aren’t being fair and Chad wants out!” if his sits the pine in ’09.

“NO! YOU’RE an inbred hick!”
Guys….stop fighting. You’re both right.
Froggie:
“Cincy is full of inbred rednecks, which is just common sense… since it is in Ohio.”
Someone from somewhere else saying another state has inbred rednecks. That never gets old. And how correct you are considering Ohio is ranked fifth among all states in amount of accredited colleges. Further bolstering your analysis of Cincinnati, it ranks sixth in the country in Fortune 500 companies per million residents(10 Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Cincinnati). Surely those seven guys from Ohio that were elected into the office of the presidency were inbred rednecks as well.
“There are 3 elite qb’s in the game right now, Brady, Manning, and Roethlisberger. After them, there is a second tier of good qb’s- I do not think Palmer is in that class either. He is mediocre & currently the 3rd best qb in the AFC North, behind ben & flacco.”
Brilliant. After one season of Flacco you already ordain him a better player than Palmer despite only throwing for 14 touchdowns and never being elected to a Pro Bowl. Palmer has been a more productive player than Big Ben despite having cumulatively one less season than Ben due to injury(I know it’s all about rings). I don’t think it’s coincidence that your AFC North QB rankings also align by the teams with the best defenses. The teams at the top of the list happen to be the ones where the QB has to do the least to win. Great way to look at it when judging QB talent.
Typically the process is think first, then type. I suggest you practice.

Thats intelligent well thought posting right there……Ya killed that headlines with that 1 buddy…….freeking hilarious….
a Homer is a person who can SAY NO WRONG about their team let me give you an example of a guy WHO CAN KEEP IT REAL ABOUT HIS TEAM:
1. Mike Brown is 1 of the worst owner is all of pro sports and has failed as an owner in my eyes…>>>>Is that a homer statement??? Thats form the heart and ESPN message board members iwll confirm I dont homerize my team if they do dumb shit I will say they DID DUMB SH–!
2. Marv Lewis to me has underachieved and this year is make or break for him in my eyes and have actually wanted him fired for 2 years now…..IS THAT A HOMER STATEMENT????????????
3.Cincy has made a lot of moves but the Oline is still questionable the moves COULD help but they also COULD NOT! I know there isnt a guarantee for the oline to reboud. IS THAT A HOMER STATEMENT????
Dude get to knwo the poster before you make a comment like that….Who’s your team by chance? Can you keep it real about YOUR TEAM????????????? IF YES? As they say in MO………..SHOW ME!
Fanball58, that was classic.
Jwill isn’t that bad. He’s a little on the FANatic side for his Bungles. But he’s nowhere near as bad as I C lightpounder. Who would have fit that formula perfectly.
As someone that moved to Cincinnati from Phoenix, and has been to Pittsburgh several times. It is funny to see them call each other inbred hicks. Whoever said they were both right is right on the money.
In response to the fantasy stats don’t win games That is true and it is why the Flacco comment is stupid. Flacco is better because he won more games. Come on, It is a team game and who ever has the better supporting cast wins and the one with the lesser supporting cast looses. In 2005 with a good cast around Palmer and time to throw they one the AFC North over the Steelers in there house. Went to the playoffs and would have betten the Steelers again if not for the injury. He posted 3,836yds 32 td’s 12 int in that season. In 06 He passed for 4,035yds 28td 13 int. and ’07 4,131yds 26 td’s 20int. Better numbers in the latter 2 but not wins due to trying to do it all himself with no help.

“Bungles=Joke”
And the “Joke” will be on the team(s) that take them lightly.
He’ll play, just because he’s a great deep ball threat, and prabably the best on the team. His agent has said that he’s in the best shape that he’s been in in a long time. He has to watch out though. Simpson, Caldwelll, and especially Henry have been playing great. Henry can go deep too, and he hasn’t been getting in trouble lately. Palmer has also said he’s doing great at Chad’s position. They really don’t even need him. They could just as easily trade him. Mike Browns too selfish, though. He could be good, though. It’ll be interesting this year. He won’t be benched though. He won’t play as much, but they won’t bench him.
Roethlisberger one of the top 3 elite QBs in the league? LOL. You smoking the chronic with Santonio or something? Drew Brees and Kurt Warner are easily better, and there are a whole host of other QBs that are arguably of the same caliber. If you think differently don’t argue with me, argue with the stats. Roethlisberger had a QB rating of 80.1 last year, failed to complete 60% of his passes, and finished with 17 TDs to 15 INTs. Wow, that is pretty elite, lmfao! Mentioning him in the same company as Brady and Manning!? C’mon, get real. The Steelers win Superbowls because of their D, not Roethlisberger.
By the way, it does not make sense to dis OH and in the same post ride Roethlisberger’s jock like your a kid at Six Flags. Big Ben is from OH genius!
The only thing I would agree with is the sorry state of the Bungs organization and the failed leadership of Mike Brown, but even little kids and casual football fans know that.
