Sage Rosenfels Is Avoiding Us

We recently mentioned that Vikings quarterback Sage Rosenfels is a card-carrying member of PFT Planet.
But, on Thursday, he explained that he temporarily has surrendered his membership.
Asked during a post-practice media session about whether he understands the team’s apparent interest in quarterback Brett Favre, Sage essentially said that he’s avoiding us like the H1N1 virus.
“As I said, I don’t even think about it,” Rosenfels said.  “I’m not reading ProFootballTalk.  I’m not watching [or] listening to Mike Florio.  I’m not really reading ESPN.com or anything like that.  I’m reading the playbook, I’m watching film.  I’m out here working out.  I’m practicing.  So that’s my life right now.  I don’t have time for all those other things and to worry about other things I can’t control.”
He’s got the right attitude.
But we could use the page views.
Sage, can’t you just ignore the stories about you-know-who?
Of course, if he’s not reading us, he’s not seeing our plea to get him to read us.  Hey, Steve Hutchinson — can you pass the message to him?

I wouldn’t either if I were him. Would be a major distraction reading about someone coming in to replace you.

Good move, Sage. PFT had stood for “Primarily Farve Talk” the last two offseasons.

What, is riding the dog sled 30 miles to the nearest internet connection taking up too much of King Sage’s precious time?

  4. HouTex says: May 21, 2009 3:58 PM

sage doesn’t deserve this….if he was put in an honest QB competition with favre in training camp he would win the job…hes a better QB today than favre

Maybe you could subscribe to his phony Twitter account.

Boy, I wish I could name drop the way Florio name drops.
Yesterday, I was at the 7-11 (in my ’98 Deville), and waved to Freddie Mitchell, as he was buying up all the scratch and win tickets. Something you probably didn’t catch on FredEx’ twitter.

“Sage, can’t you just ignore the stories about you-know-who like everyone else?”
    Fixed.

So did Sage promise to be a PFT member after he was done using your mouth at that WV truckstop or what? So if he’s done with PFT are you going to sue for breach of “oral” contract? Display some of those legal skills that you’re famous for?

  9. Bob_Nelson says: May 21, 2009 4:22 PM

This is Rosenfels big moment and chance.
He would not start on any other NFL team except the lowly vikings.
    Remember that the vikings chose:
Michael Bennett (out of league) instead of Drew Brees.
Darion Scott (out of league) instead of Matt Schaub.
Troy Williamson (insert joke here) and Erasmus James ( where is he now) instead of Aaron Rodgers.
Sage is just a member of the vikings recent QB club like Tarvaris Jackson, Brad Johnson, Gus Ferrotte, Mike McMahon, Tyler Thigpen, Drew Henson, Kelly Holcomb, Brooks Bollinger, Koy Detmer and John David Booty in 3 years.
The Vikings don’t want a QB like Cutler, Favre, or a high draft pick!!

  10. ZN0rseman says: May 21, 2009 4:23 PM

I sincerely hope that Sage is the opening day starter. Jackson is terrible, Booty is unproven and Favre, while a great QB, would be a huge distraction and he’ll be 40 in a few months.

Why don’t you put up some stories about how Favre is comtemplating becoming a PFT member? Then you’ll have all summer to report that Brett still isn’t a member…but hasn’t sold his laptop yet, so he still might.

A smell a QBF sequel: “Rage Sosenfels” a quarterbacking Jewish farmboy with supposedly hippie parents who aren’t really hippies, mysteriously travels back in time to compete with a young upstart Packers QB, “Frett Bavre” and beat him for a starting job, derailing his career and preventing him from later un-retiring and challenging for the QB job of the Vikings.
It’ll probably be written on the back of a Denny’s napkin.

“sage doesn’t deserve this….if he was put in an honest QB competition with favre in training camp he would win the job…hes a better QB today than favre ”
That’s laughable – turn in your NFL fan card.
While I’ll admit Favre was been anything but great at the end of last year, he could probably still take Sage’s job with the bum bicep. You want an example of Sage’s greatness? Watch the last quarter of the game against the Colts – what a joke.

Honestly Sage, I mean Sage, really?

  15. BuckFutter says: May 21, 2009 4:45 PM

Holy crap. Sage Rosenfels said your name! He’s a pro-football player! That’s….well, it’s kind of awesome, I guess….I mean, sure it was Sage Rosenfels….but still….I’d be excited if someone on Public Access said my name. It’s still TV, right?

  16. DynastyDriven77 says: May 21, 2009 5:05 PM

Is there anyone with a bigger ego then Florio? WOW.

  17. skinsfan53 says: May 21, 2009 5:13 PM

I knew my day wouldn’t be complete unless I heard some random, useless piece of news about the Vikings from Florio. Now I can go home.

  18. garyofferdahl says: May 21, 2009 5:15 PM

Did anyone watch Favre play last year? In all honesty he is not all that good anymore. He flashes it still, but there are times when he looks terrible. Take away the one big game and he had an awful season.

  19. raiderfl says: May 21, 2009 5:17 PM

Rosenfels reminds me of gannon- smart quarterback with solid skills who could develop into a high quality starter given the right situation. He could start for a number of NFL teams, but most teams are trying to prove they spent money wisely on the next great thing. Much like KC did when they chose to stick with Grbac and dump gannon.
I’ll bet this is the 1st Elvis reference today on PFT.

  20. HouTex says: May 21, 2009 5:46 PM

marcduke—did you see favre’s last 6 games including the playoffs? it looked like my grandpa trying to play football…ive watched all of Sage’s texans starts and he’s had his ups and downs but overall i think with a good line and weapons around him and a west coast offense he can win….in 07 he was 4-1 as a starter with the texans

Sage has surrendered his membership? That’s a shame…perhaps another QB of equal stature will step up to fill this void.
*off to check Charlie Frye’s Twitter*

Good thing Rosenfels is a real quarterback and not an armchair qb like the slobs that write here. I’m glad to see that he is as mature and direct as he has shown.
Favre might know this offense better, even much better, than any qb on the Vikings’ roster, but he’s FAVRE!
And stop with the last quarter of the INDY game, for Pete’s sake. Like Favre never did anything like that. I could start with the final play of the 07 NFC Champ game and move to the last half of the 08 season; I could line up stupid choices he made, and games, BIG ones and otherwise, until quitting time today. Favre is still the career interception leader, too. Don’t give me ‘bum shoulder’, either. If he’s so brilliant, why throw all those picks? You Favre supporters don’t get it: He just keeps throwing, no matter what. It’s a good philosophy when it’s part of his legacy, but I’ve watched him throw away many, many games when he could have just thrown the ball away and avoided the INT. But no, Favre has to be Favre, the “Gunslinger”, “The Grizzled Vet”, “The Leader”.
Anybody see Tin Cup? The guy could not, would not do the wise thing, and he LOST the BIG ONE. He got famous! He got the girl! He got in the record books! Woo Hoo! But he didn’t win. A great character. But he lost.
Favre has won a few big ones. But, like Sage’s helicopter and crash against Indy, they were a long time ago. Favre was MVP several times….A long time ago. This is NOW. 2009.
Hey Bob Nelson…I have just one name for you….Ready? Tony Mandarich. Now shut your mouth.

Florio, you should create a beta site, identical to this one in every way except that every post mentioning Brett Favre gets screened out.

  25. JimmySmith says: May 21, 2009 9:29 PM

I feel bad for the guy, he plays in the NFL for 7 years and never wins a starting job. (clue to the Viking fans, there is a reason for that and you will soon find out)
Realizing that his time is running out, he gets to play for one of the dumbest head coaches in NFL history so he is thinking that maybe he can parlay this into a starting job, after all, his main competition for the job is a guy who throws jump passes for crying out loud.
Then the coach starts getting a woody for a washed up QB who doesn’t necessarily want to play football but is after revenge and Sage has to sit around and listen to that BS. No wonder he wants to stick his head in the sand (at least he will have that in common with his head coach)
All I can say is I am glad its the Vikings and not the Packers.

  26. CanadianVikingFan says: May 21, 2009 10:06 PM

Florio what else is there for him to read, when all that comes out is Favre news?
