Winslow Shows Up For OTA

As promised, tight end Kellen Winslow participated in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ voluntary Organized Team Activity today after being absent from previous practice sessions. Winslow explained why he missed the workouts, according to Pewter Report. “I just had some family issues I needed to deal with, some personal issues,” said Winslow, who signed a six-year, $36 million contract extension during the offseason. “The team understood. I talked to Coach [Raheem] Morris and [General Manager Mark Dominik] and I had an excuse, and they excused me. I thank them for that. "[OTAs] are very important. They are voluntary, but they’re really not voluntary. You do need to be here and I wish I could have been here. I just couldn’t.” According to the report, Winslow has been in the process of moving to Tampa Bay since being traded from the Cleveland Browns. Winslow missed part of a previous minicamp when his father-in-law was missing for days in California before being discovered safe at the U.S.-Mexico border. Winslow’s father-in-law has Alzheimer’s disease. Winslow said that he plans to attend all remaining Organized Team Activities as well as a mandatory full-team minicamp in June. “We had the minicamp and I took as many notes as I could,” Winslow said. “We made some adjustments, so I’m trying to catch up. I don’t think it will take long. “It’s a very simple offense and I like it because it’s not too much in terms of volume of words. It’s tight end friendly, it’s running friendly and it’s wide receiver friendly. Whoever gets open is going to be open and get the ball.”
