Broncos Cut J.J. Arrington

Veteran running back J.J. Arrington was cut by the Denver Broncos today after he failed his physical, according to Lindsay H. Jones of the Denver Post.
Arrington had been sidelined throughout the offseason following knee surgery in February.
The former Arizona Cardinals runner was signed by the Broncos during free agency to a four-year, $10 million contract.
Arrington rushed for 187 yards and one touchdown last season.
The Broncos landed University of Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno in the first round.
Plus, they acquired two more running backs during free agency — Lamont Jordan and Correll Buckhalter.

Four years, $10M? How much of a signing bonus did he pocket for four months of work?

  2. Bob_Sacamano says: May 27, 2009 8:08 PM

Don’t they take physicals before they sign their contracts?

  3. philwauke says: May 27, 2009 8:10 PM

I wonder if teams are quicker to fail a player in his physical if he has a fat contract and little production?

  4. pancats says: May 27, 2009 8:13 PM

ERROR!!! The broncos acquired Knowshon not cardinals… Cardinals got Beanie Wells…. Can I get a job Florio????

*Broncos acquired Knowshon Moreno in the first round.

  6. gogobroncos says: May 27, 2009 8:17 PM

Thanks for crushing our cap, trading away our 1st rounder for a 2nd round rookie cornerback, and dealing Jay Cutler to Chicago. Way to go coach.
I mean come on, who isn’t impressed with Little Joshie McDaniels now?

  7. MillenisGod says: May 27, 2009 8:17 PM

Wow I didn’t know that the Cardinals got Lamont Jordan and Correll Buckhalter. They let go of Jay Cutler too?

  8. kazkal says: May 27, 2009 8:18 PM

Cardinals landed Beanie the Broncos landed moreno

  9. myusernamestinks says: May 27, 2009 8:19 PM

How much of Bowlen’s overhead did Arrington walk away with, Florio? I want details.

Ohhh….JJ, sorry I didn’t introduce you to my two friends here, this is Writing and Wall.

  11. wyldsoul says: May 27, 2009 8:24 PM

The Cardinals wish they landed Knowshon Moreno!

  12. DarthJay says: May 27, 2009 8:26 PM

I have a feeling they suspected this would happen all along. They got a lot of heat for drafting Moreno but I think it is going to work out really well for them. Let’s face it, Lamont Jordan and Correll Buckhalter are not exactly known for their durability. Looks like the boy wonder knew what he was doing after all…

  13. bdenny29 says: May 27, 2009 8:30 PM

The Broncos drafted Knowshown, not the Cards (who got Beanie Wells)

Don’t tell Bennie Wells. It will confuse him.

  16. FishRoy says: May 27, 2009 8:40 PM

Broncos got Moreno. Cards got Wells.

  17. Fredex says: May 27, 2009 8:41 PM

Maybe the Chargers should sign him and let Sproles go. They’re similar players.

Florio needs to crack the whip on you, unless of course both of you kinda…like that……..stuff.

do most of you not read other comments or do you just feel like having the same thing repeated 8 times?

  33. myusernamestinks says: May 27, 2009 9:18 PM

Sorry for the error. How much of Bowlen’s overhead did Arrington walk away with, Wilson? I want details. (Poor Wilson. He writes so much like Florio, it’s hard to tell them apart.)

  34. Aaron Wilson says: May 27, 2009 9:57 PM

$1.8 million signing bonus. Thanks for pointing out the typo. It’s been fixed for over an hour.

  35. Restore_the_roar says: May 27, 2009 10:26 PM

These kind of cuts are the reason I am always on the player’s side when he is holding out as a rookie or when he cries for a new deal like Boldin.
    Contracts mean zero to team.

So….how long did YOU have to wait before your comment got posted for everyone to read? And were there any comments made during that time?
Also, thanks for fixing the article and making us all look like dicks, Aaron.

  37. Mike Maher says: May 27, 2009 10:34 PM

Don’t forget about Darius Walker; the Broncos recently signed him, as well.

  38. Philtration says: May 27, 2009 11:05 PM

    The Broncos got Kyle Orton?
    Wait… that can’t be right.
They have Jay Cutler at QB.
    Hahahahhaaaaa……. dumb asses!

  39. 4shortofa100 says: May 27, 2009 11:58 PM

    From the Denver Post:
“Arrington will go down as the tailback the Broncos once badly wanted, but never had. On Feb. 27, the opening of free agency, the Broncos and Arrington reached an agreement in principal on a four-year, $10 million contract that included a $3 million guarantee in signing bonus and salary.
The deal was never signed, however, because the two sides disagreed over contract language regarding the torn meniscus in Arrington’s right knee. A week later, the contract was rewritten and an agreement was reached, this time with a knee-injury waiver against the $3 million.”

Peyton Hillis! Decent speed, great vision, picks the right hole, shows patience in letting the blocks develop, best hands on the team. The third down back was already there…

  41. ihatethejets says: May 28, 2009 1:30 AM

yeah darron sproles and arrington are similar players….except sproles is actually good.
to restore_the_roar: the urgency created by the lack of job security is what makes the NFL so competitive. if some jackass like shaun alexander gets lazy after cashing in, he’ll be gone. compare that to the NBA where overpriced players can controll teams with their bloated contracts (ex: the new york knicks)

  42. Elaw6 says: May 28, 2009 4:07 AM

I knew it!! This guy [JJ] was a joke in the NFL.
He was afraid of contact, didn’t run with force, and was slower than cold molases running up hill.
This guy is the pre-cursor to Marshawn Lynch.

  43. Pea Tear Griffin says: May 28, 2009 11:25 AM

    Ike Hilliard wore #88

  44. Jon Snow says: May 28, 2009 11:27 AM

A prudent move by McD & X to have that knee injury clause in the contract. JJ only gets a PB&J… and maybe a lift to the airport.
