Fran Takes On Favre

With the Vikings possibly on the brink of acquiring their first quarterback with Hall of Fame credentials since Fran Tarkenton, their last quarterback with Hall of Fame credentials (i.e., Fran Tarkenton) is sounding off.
I think it’s despicable,” Tarkenton told 790 The Zone in Atlanta (via the Minneapolis Star Tribune) regarding the possibility of Brett Favre playing for the Vikings.  “What he put the Packers through last year was not good.  Here’s an organization that was loyal to him for 17, 18 years, provided stability of organization, provided players.  It just wasn’t about Brett Favre.  In this day and time, we have glorified the Brett Favre’s of the world so much, they think it’s about them.  He goes to New York and bombs.  He’s 39 years old.  How would you like Ray Nitschke in his last year [playing for] the Vikings, or I retire, and go play for the Packers?  I kind of hope it happens, so he can fail.”
(Fran, you really need to come out of your shell.)
“He told the Packers [after 2008 that], ‘I’m retiring,’” Tarkenton said.  “They’ve got to move on.  They’ve got to go through their offseason plan, their workouts, they go with the other quarterback [Aaron Rodgers], who is a good player, and then [Favre] comes back and says, ‘I think I want to play.’ . . .  You build your team in the offseason.  Everybody knows that.  It’s about team.  It’s not about Brett Favre.  So he goes and runs up to the Jets, doesn’t even dress in the locker room with the players.  Has a separate facility.  Playing quarterback is about the relationships you have with your coaches, with your players, with your trainers, with your managers.  How can you do that if you show up on gameday and you haven’t put the time in?  And now he’s trying to do it again in Minnesota.  And if Minnesota bites, God bless them. . . .
“He’s been a great player, there’s no question about it, but it’s all about him.  It is supposed to be all about your team.  If you’re going to be the quarterback of your team, you need to be there in the offseason workouts in March and April.  Peyton Manning’s there.  Tom Brady’s there.”
There’s more — and the starting quarterback of the other team for which Tarkenton played got hit with some shrapnel, too.
“I think [Favre] has been a great flamboyant quarterback, but he has made more stupid plays than any great quarterback that I’ve ever seen,” Tarkenton  said.  “Look at his final game in a Packers uniform [the 2007 NFC title game].  He blew that game against the Giants.  He’s playing against Eli Manning.  I love Eli Manning, but he’s still not a great quarterback.  He’s not Peyton yet, or Tom Brady.  He’s just a guy.  And [the Packers] are playing at home, and they’re in a tight situation, they went to overtime and [Favre] throws the interception that allows [the Giants] to come back and win the game.”
We’ve got a ton of respect for Fran, but he’s got less authority on this matter than he’d have if one of his fingers sported a Super Bowl ring.  Or if he hadn’t forced his way out of Minnesota in the late ’60s because he couldn’t get along with coach Norm Van Brocklin.
So while the Tarkenton of 2009 speaks with a lifetime’s worth of wisdom, we’ve got a feeling that the Fran who played pro football was a lot more like Favre than today’s Fran would ever admit.
That said, we agree with Tarkenton.  As we’ve previously said, Favre is the first elite athlete to tarnish his legacy not by anything he did on the field late in his career, but by lots of things he said and did away from the white lines at a time when he could still perform at a high level.
[Editor’s note:  I clarified that last sentence — obviously, plenty of great players have tarnished their images based on things they did away from the field.]
His best move would be to remain retired in 2009.  And 2010.  And 2011.  And beyond.

God Bless Fran Tarkenton. He has the stones to say what 90% of this country thinks of Brett Favre Inc. No player, former player, big name sportswriter will say the truth about Favre publicly. Favre is a ceritified liar, doesn’t have an ounce of honor or dignity to him, proved himself to be a backstabber with Packer President Murphy, and threw his friend James Campen under the bus in order to further his public temper tantrum. I wish to hell more prominent names had the stones to publicly state their true feelings about Favre and his wife Princess De. Screw Favre. The Packers should simply acknowledge his records and forget about personally honoring a guy who was hellbent on hurting the Packers and lied every step of the way to advance his agenda. Right on Fran. Right on.

Lets add what Fran left out…. hes a narcisstic guy that thinks the NFL can’t survive without Brette Favre in the league….. he’s popped more pain pills then all the pregnant women in America did the entire 2009 year….. he’s cried more tears then all the daytime soap opera stars in this decade….. Brett Favre isn’t even a great QB…… he has thrown more interceptions then any man at his position…… that means mistakes that screw defensive teammates over…… go away cry baby….go far away we dont want you in the league spare us your bs u pill popping idiot.

And for the record, I thought he tarnished his legacy even before last offseason. Most overrated QB of all time.

Finally someone finally says what 90% of all Packer fans are thinking. Good job Fran Tarkenton!!

  16. Ted Thompson is SATAN says: May 27, 2009 5:12 PM

Tarkenton sounds like a bitter old man. Maybe he’s just jealous Favre took all of his records, and everyone now goes “Fran who ?”.
Maybe he’s afraid Favre will go to the Vikings and win a Super Bowl – something he failed to do in 3 tries.
As to bad interceptions: Trakenton had 1 TD pass and 6 INT’s and about a 40 Q Rating – in those 3 Super Bowl losses.
Maybe Tarkenton can go back to his fraudulent activities such as lying about company profits as he did back in 1999, and getting bitch slapped by the SEC !
Look, as a lifelong Packers fan I don’t want to see Favre on the Vikings any more than anyone else, but, just because Ted Thompson decided a year ago that Favre couldn’t play for the Packers, doesn’t mean that he can’t play for anyone. Who made Ted Thompson God ???
The comments make Tarkenton appear jealous, petty, and bitter. Ugly traits on anyone, much less soon to be 70 year old man.
I recall several old Vikings finishing up elsewhere – Alan Page – Bears, Carl Eller – Seahawks, Chuck Foreman – Patriots. Did he bitch then ??? Get over it Fran, and go do another tired old infomercial Fran, geez.

  17. gwinn1952 says: May 27, 2009 5:13 PM

Why does it tarnish his legacy just because he retires…then…unretires. I don’t get it. He didn’t kill anyone, no DUI’s, no hit and runs, no party boat…..no nothing. Just decided he still wanted to play. So I don’t get the legacy bit…..you can’t take away his accomplishments no matter who he plays for. Maybe the media should quit doing all the stories on him coming out of retirement and do great stories on him. For Example: He fenced off a big chunk of his land to provide a safe haven for physically challenged individuals could go hunting each year. Bet you didn’t know that! As for Fran…..seems I remember he could never win the big games….and I’m sure if was healthy he’d love to play again…..he’s just jealous because Brett can still play at 39.

  18. vcbhome says: May 27, 2009 5:17 PM

Actually I give him more props for getting out because of Van Brocklin – Norm was a dick.
Francis hits the nail on the head. The Pack was great to him over the years, otherwise he could have been left in Atlanta during the 90′s…oh what fun that would have been….not!

  19. 4evrnyt says: May 27, 2009 5:18 PM

1st Elite player to tarnish their reputation by non-playing action??
I’m sure this has been said but ever hear of a guy called O.J. Simpson.
Brett Favre wont ever get called the best QB of all time so that makes him ONE of the best of all time which would put him in the same category of eliteness as OJ.

EXACTLY!!! THAT IS THE PROBLEM!! You can’t blame Favre for being so bigheaded and thinking about his own priorities when he’s been treated like royalty his whole NFL career… if their’s anyone to blame it’s the Packers themselves along with the likes of ESPN,PFT, Madden & all the people for glorifying this guy and then trying to throw him under the bus when he wants to do his own thing… TOO MANY HYPOCRITES IN THIS WORLD (yes, im talking about you!)

  27. mdfrankie says: May 27, 2009 5:20 PM

The thing that some of the clowns defending Favre miss is that he doesn’t want the Packers to exist after he leaves. He has the misguided impression that he is bigger than the Green Bay Packers. Time will prove him wrong. He has a sad rest of his life to live because he seems incapable of adjusting to life after football and not having people kiss his a**. All his professional life he has been surrounded by enablers who have told him what he wanted to hear rather than the truth. As a Packer fan I hope that he does go and play for the Vikings. He keeps saying how much he wants to kick the Pack’s a** twice a year, well don’t think for a second that there won’t be motivation on the other side. Bring it on Brett!

“Favre is the first elite athlete to tarnish his legacy not by anything he did on the field, but by lots of things he said and did away from the white lines.”
I’m no Favre fan, he should have retired in 2003 or 2004. That said, it’s his life and career, if he wants to play while he still has the physical ability then it’s none of anyones business other than his and the coach that lets him play.
His legacy is set in stone, he will be a first ballot HOFer. So tell us Florio, how is his legacy “tarnished”? When all is said and done, a first ballot HOFer is a firts ballot HOFer. Does he somehow lose his Super Bowl ring or something else? And who the F are YOU to say that a future HOFer’s legacy is “tarnished”?

You say that Favre’s massive ego and narcissism is the result of his deification by the media and fans.
Contrast Favre with Tom Brady is all about his team and winning; he took less money to surround himself with talent, and he seems to represent all thats right with the game…only to hear people across America cheer when the guy gets knocked out for the year and hope that the guy’s career is over.
You tell me who the hypocrites are.

You see gwinn1952, to Florio and all the other Favre haters, he is not “allowed” to retire and unretire. To them, retiring and unretiring is FAR WORSE than murder, double murder, DUI’s, armed robbery, Hit and Runs, drunk driving, party boats, etc. Imagine that, Favre commited the unforgivable sin of unretiring a year ago. Oh … My … God.
As to this year, Favre has said nothing as of yet. All of these 900 stories posted by Florio and the like the past 3-4 weeks, are just wild speculation by him and them. Hell, Florio once listed as a headline story, that he would soon have a headline story. Good grief Florio – get a life. Maybe spend a little time with your kid or wife or something. Geez.

Too bad Fran didn’t use some of that KnowledgeWare product…must be easier to screw your employees/stockholders than do the job… Oh wait, that’s what Murphy and TT did, no wonder Fran takes up for them…
Favre didn’t put the Packers through anything; they pushed on him to get him to retire, and then he decided that he did not want to. TT & the rest of the Packer brain trust could have just simply moved on with their plans, but they did not want Favre to play, and have everyone second guess them. That’s why they made sure to trade him to the Jets. They just as easily could have made it a competition, but they didn’t, because they knew Favre would still beat out any other QB. It isn’t Favre’s fault that the Packers couldn’t get more than 6 wins…If they were so ‘close’ or ‘talented’ or if Rodgers was a ‘better player’, don’t ya think they could have at least taken the division from a team that had no QB at all?
If Favre plays for the Vikings, he’d still be the best option for them. The other QBs suck.

  43. sportfan1234 says: May 27, 2009 5:52 PM

    1. I am a huge Viking Fan. I have been for life. I have all the broken hearts to prove it.
    2. Fran needs to go back to infomercials where late night people still care what he thinks.
    3. Why did Tarkenton say what he just said…there must be a reason….well here are a couple of ideas.
    A. Maybe he just likes to hear himself talk.
    B. Maybe Favre would be able to do something at 40 years old that Fran wasn’t ever able to do in Minnesota or New York (WIN a big game) (Favre already has proven he can win a big game….Tarkenton has been in big games with a FANTASTIC Defense and was the huge favorite to win….then he fell on his face and we still love him in Minnesota as the best QB we ever had)…that would change if Favre took us to the promised land…Tarkenton wouldn’t be the #1 QB in the hearts of Viking fans anymore.
How could ANY true Viking fan HOPE that a Minnesota Viking QB falls on his face while leading the team!!!!!
I HATE Jackson leading our team! I Hate Childress leading our team. But if we are going to be stuck with “Jumping Jackson” as our QB and “Bumbling Brad” as our Coach I am never going to hope they fall on their face unless once the season gets started.
Once other confession I am going to make. There are very few Viking Fans alive who are bigger fans (not counting the crazy beer drinking/painted purple fans) than me. I haven’t lived in the state of Minnesota for over 20 years but I never miss a day of Viking news in the Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, Viking Update and multiple Blogs. I hate the GB Packers more than any team in the league. BUT….I am a HUGE Football fan also and there are some players on rival teams I have always liked and wished they played for my Vikings.
I would Love Belichick as our Coach and would trade 3 number one draft picks to get him.
I would love Brady as our QB and would trade almost anything to get him.
I loved Barry Sanders as a Detroit Lion and would have loved him to play for the Vikings (Detroit treated him very bad at the end)
I loved Walter Payton as a hated Chicago Bear rival and would have loved him to play for the Vikings.
I hated Jim McMahon as a Chicago Bear….didn’t want to sign him as a Viking…but never wished him to fail once on our team.
I loved Lynch as a rival Tampa Bay Buc (when they were in our division)..he would have fit in very well on the People Purple Eaters of old.
BUT….when it comes to Brett Favre. I have loved him as a QB the entire time he played for our biggest most hated rival. Some Minnesota Viking Fans may call me a traitor but I bleed Purple and would stand head to head with ANY fan of the Vikings when it comes to knowledge and passion for our team. Yet, as a QB myself, When I played with Family and Friends at Thanksgiving and had to choose a Jersey to wear that represented what I liked as a QB in the NFL and who I would want leading my Vikings it was NEVER a Brad Johnson/Sean Salspuke/Wade Wilson/Gino Torretta/Gus F/Shaun Hill/Jeff George/Steve Bono etc etc etc
NO….the Jersey this VERY PROUD Viking Fan used to wear (at Picnics NOT at a Viking game) and still keeps in his closet is the hated Green Bay #4 Favre Jersey.
If there is any way he gets to put on a purple jersey even at 40 years old…he will still be immediately one of the Best QB’s to have EVERY put on that purple jersey (Daunte’s best year had a lot to do with Randy)….Fran Tarkenton, Warren Moon, Joe Kapp, Cunningham and of course Tommy “beer drinking” Kramer would start out ahead of him on that list…But, lead us to the Super bowl and he passes everyone except good old Fran….but Win us the Super bowl (which would be very hard with such a strong AFC) and Favre becomes the best QB ever to play in Minnesota.
Fran knows this. Fran doesn’t want to lose his place. He is still almost worshiped by Viking Fans….I still can’t help but watch him when I see him on an Infomercial but we have to call a spade a spade Fran…and you sound like a crybaby who knows he just might lose his cherished place in the hearts of Viking Fans as an old/broken down man just might lead us to the promised land.
Favre WILL play for us this fall. For some of us it will be a GREAT ride. For others who have hated him…I understand your pain BUT once that Jersey is put on….can any of us true Viking fans really want him to “fall on his face”????

Besides, hey Mike – just WHO WAS IT that posted all of these non-story stories about Favre the past 3-4 weeks, hmmm ??? Did Favre call you up and make you post them ??? Typical liberal hypocrite, bitching about something that wouldn’t even exist if not for him and others like him.

I agree with Fran on everything he said, 100%. Favre should stay quiet and stay retired. He shouldn’t be stringing any team along and shouldn’t be waltzing in at the last minute to be glorified as a team’s savior like he did last year with the Jets. His first retirement should have been his one-and-only retirement and everyone would be calling him “great”. Now? We’re too tired of the drama queen.

but lets face it. the vaunted viking defense (yes that vaunted front four that used to beat up on the sad sack early ’70s bears, packers and even the then half decent lions) got the ball run right down their throat in each super bowl loss. it got worse every time. 151 by kc. 196 by miami. 249 by pittsburgh. 266 by oakland.
    cant blame that on tarkenton.

Only losers like most of you posters in here who have never played the game at any level are concerned with “tarnishing a legacy”. Great players don’t care about that because their legacy stands no matter what…….period. Did Jordan tarnish his legacy playing with the Wizards?????NO. People have short memories and in ten years, nobody will remember Favre playing for anyone BUT the packers anyway……give it a rest. Fran is just pissed because he earned NOTHING when he played and he is clueless as to how the league works today………if anyone is over-rated, it is him!

At some point, your team has to move on. Favre went to NY and proved he’s done. Now he wants to prove he’s still done. The Vikings are idiots if they sign this guy.

“I think he has been a great flamboyant quarterback, but he has made more stupid plays than any great quarterback that I’ve ever seen.”
Fran Tarkenton is a TRUE HYPOCRITE…………………..
Tarkenton was known to heave the ball deep on third and long with no regard to an interception.
Tarkenton’s poor performance in three Super Bowls and his inability to win a championship ring in 18 seasons prevents some people from considering him as great as other quarterbacks.

Eli is not just “some guy”. Switch the two QBs in the 2007 NFC Championship game – you’re telling me Favre makes all the throws Eli did? WRONG. Watch the game again old man. I’m not saying Eli is a great QB – I’m saying on that day, in Green Bay – he was damn near flawless you geezer. Go polish your dentures.

Florio, you’ve built a tremendous following and carry a lot of weight around the league despite having achieved far less than Tarkenton has. Why does he have to have won a Super Bowl to opine that Favre blew the 2007 NFC Championship?

Thompson didn’t even try to win with the team he took over, everyone else is admired for their passion when they speak up, Favre is now ripped. So what if he wants to play? I would play forever if I could.
I used to kinda like Tarkenton, but based on that uneducated outburst, I guess it shows that he just wasn’t intelligent enough to win the big games. Did you watch last season Fran, when the Jets ripped through the first half of the season, before Favre got hurt? Probably not, you just listen to the main stream media and whatever is the flavor of the day.

poor job by tarkenton? he didnt do well enough but it was more like the other teams got the lead and forced the vikes to be one dimensional.
see earlier post. the vikes opponents when fran played rushed for 711 yards in 3 games (fins, steelers, raiders).. the purple people eaters got eaten alive. the vikes’ admittedly pedestrian secondary couldnt intercept any passes because the vaunted viking DL was too tired to rush the passer on pass plays because they were getting their asses handed to them on run plays.

That said, he is right that Favre absolutely blew chunks in the 07 NFC title game. And worse, it capped a string of disappointing playoff performances by Favre dating back to 2000. For all the Favre ball lickers who accuse TT of running him out of town, get used to it, Favre isn’t ever coming back and that is a good thing.
Now, if we can only get the biggest dumbass in all of pro football, Col Klink, to sign Favre, then we are ready to settle this hissy fit that Favre has been having. The Vikings and Favre are a perfect match. Favre has been proven to be all about himself over the past few years with thinking he’s the GM and trying to dictate players and whining about it when it doesn’t get his way. Doesn’t show up to offseason OTA’s, has his own private dressing room and generally stays away from endearing himself or bonding with his teammates.
This marriage is a match made in heaven since the Vikings have no legacy to worry about tarnishing, so there’s no threat to compete with Favre’s legacy in Minnesota. Not to mention the fact that the Minnesota Vikings will soon be a team of the past after they move to LA which will allow them to hopefully wipe their pathetic slate clean. They’ve been doomed for so long that it’s probably about the only thing they can do to turn things around.

  76. wicked612 says: May 27, 2009 8:33 PM

Now this is coming from a die hard Vikings fan….Fran needs to shut up he is in no position to talk im tired of all these people in Minnesota putting him out there like he is some trophy. What has Tarkenton won? nothing lol does he realize who he is talkin about? Were talkin about Brett Favre one of the best QBs to ever play this game. I hate Packers fans as much as any other Vikings fan does but he is a gamer even last year with the Jets you saw the fire in him still. I just think Fran Tarkenton is in no position to speak about Favre.

  77. raideralexander says: May 27, 2009 8:35 PM

An old Favre is better than half the QBs in the league … the Vikings know they won’t will with Travis … so why not get Favre even if he is old and washed up … he still better then Travis.

  78. dlmcc0505 says: May 27, 2009 8:47 PM

I couldnt agree more with the rant that Tarkenton went on about Favre. Everything he said is true. I do agree though that nobody tarnished their reputation off the field more than O.J. did. Killing 2 people is much worse.
Brett Favre is definitely one of the best QB’s to ever play the game, but he is also one of the most selfish athletes of all time. The Packers organization was good to him all those years. To try to play for their division rival solely to spite them is pathetic and immature. I personally lost all respect for the guy a long time ago like most fans have.
He just doesn’t have it anymore. And I know alot of the greats have a hard time accepting that which I understand. But it doesn’t seem to be about him still wanting to play. I think with him its all about spiting the Packers and thats something I have never seen before and hope I never see again

That said, I couldn’t agree with him more.

  84. brownsbob says: May 27, 2009 10:01 PM

Then, he’ll go to Canada. I love Tarkenton. He’s just PO’d because he didn’t have the same idea. Heck, he could have been in the HOF in the CFL after he left the Vikes. Hey, does the CFL have a HOF?

I think you need to ask yourself what the hell is going on in your mind. Dont you think Favre has earned the right to play if he wants to. You say the Vikings have no legacy just because they have no superbowls, have you forgot about the purple people eaters and all the HOF players they have had. You actually think they will move to L.A when every football team thats gone there has failed. The Vikings have sold out every game for 11 years and have a loyal fan base. They have the best running back in the league and Zygi just met with our governor and was pleased with the progress. DO SOME HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU WAIST EVERYONES TIME BY POSTING YOUR CRAP

Packers fans (REAL Packers fans, mind you) don’t give one schit about Brentney Favre and what he’s going to do (or not do) yet. His time has come, and gone. He was one of the greatest QBs of all time. Key word….was. No longer. Now he’s just an overpaid big headed crybaby who is using the worst of all motivators…revenge…in order to stage (another) comeback.
Almost reminds me of the old Miller Lite commercials with Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner….Billy….you’re fired. Billy….you’re hired (voiceover added for extra effect)….Billy…you’re fired (again).
RIP Green N Gold #4….may you rest in peace….and give the rest of us some freaking peace and quiet, only interrupted intermittenly by that freakin’ lawn tractor of yours.

Heck…you and Jackassred Allen can go and have a beer together so that Deena can throw your crap out onto the front porch (again) for all I care.

I’m being serious here I know he played for the viqueens but what else did he do. Does he hold any records at all. Favre will be in the NFL hall of fame for his work as a Packer, but he will also be in the Madden hall of fame for being the best Madden curse ever. If Troy P is impaled on Fitzgerald’s compound fractured leg this season, it still will not top the destruction that Favre did to his legacy and image.

  92. kevin_b says: May 28, 2009 2:34 AM

One thing I find strange about this whole mess is that the media and the team are not thinking about how the fans likely don’t want Favre on their team. I know when I read Peter King’s article about the 5 likely destinations for Vick, I puked blood. I am a Saints fan, so removing all of my objections to Vick based on his off the field issues and his inability to complete more than 53% of his passes, I still don’t want him on my team because he was the face of the Falcons. I hate the Falcons, as Falcons fans should hate the Saints, as Vikings fans should hate the Packers. Why would they want a guy they have hated for nearly 20 years to join their team. How can they cheer for him? Could Jets fans cheer for Marino or Brady? Could Steelers fans cheer for Ray Lewis? I would hope not, if so what is the point of rivalries?

  93. mnmaverick says: May 28, 2009 5:00 AM

He knows his Viking legacy is done should Favre come in and win a Super Bowl.

  94. Bob_Nelson says: May 28, 2009 7:19 AM

    1) I don’t understand how any Packer fan can dislike Brett Favre. He was traded to the Jets and the Packers got a 3rd round pick that they wouldn’t have received if stayed retired.
    2) Only viking idiots(yes Florio included) are talking about signing Favre. Brett hasn’t signed or agreed to anything. Brett has repeatedly denied all these rumors and said he is retired.
    3) The desperate vikings need a QB and haven’t got one and it is their fault and no one else’s fault.
    4) Brett Favre has all the major records and many lesser known ones like the most TD passes over 80 yards. How can his famous desire to play (even with serious injuries) which people love now be said to damage his own superman reputation? That is just evil talk from a loser like Tarkenton and a lawyer like Florio.
    5) Where is the hell does this mdeia whore, attention whore and other slander come from?? Brett Favre is not making media appearnaces he is avoiding them. Does he do situps in his driveway?
Does he appear on ESPN everyday?
Tell me what has Brett Favre done this off season to put his name in all these media stories?
    6) As to the painkiller slander, some of you forget he has not taken any pain medication for well over a dozen years. His toughness is legitimate (playing with broken bones in his throwing hand unlike Romo).
    7) Brett Favre is a retired football player and the vikings and Fran Tarkenton have no claim to him or cause to say anything about him.
You can’t find one credible source for Favre unretiring in 2009!!!
Stop slandering one of the best players at any position in the history of the NFL.

Betty Favre is a traitor and a scab. He’s not only disgraced himself with the Green Bay Packers and NY Jets, he’s a disgrace to the game.
It’s a sign of the times that anyone in America would support this selfish prick.
I only hope he returns from his latest re-liarment so the Packers can kick his phony ass twice.
    Thank you Frantic Tark!

  96. Bob_Nelson says: May 28, 2009 8:00 AM

Francis Tarkenton’s INT rate is higher than Favre’s.
Tarkenton threw 266 INT’s in 6467 attempts or 4.1% of his passes.
Favre has 310 INT’s in 9280 attempts or 3.3% of his passes.
Why does Francis think he has a right to speak about stupid plays?
Both had 18 seasons but Favre has far greater statistics.
    3686 completions compared to Favre’s 5720.
    342 TD passes compared to Favre’s 464.
47,003 yards compared to 65,127 for Favre.
Considering Tarkenton spent a third of his career as a Giant his viking numbers are far less. Francis QB rating in the post season is 58.6
Brett Favre played in twice as many playoffs games and his post season QB rating is 85.2.
    Talk about Francis’ stupid plays.

  97. Tims_mom says: May 28, 2009 8:40 AM
